The pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed aﬂoat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others ﬁnancially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Donations are so important to CFK, especially being that they receive no grant money. They would like to thank all thsoe who attended their Scavenger Hunt fundraising event on April 10th. Their next fundraising event will be a golf outing on June 14th, stay tuned for more information! Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Fractured Fairy Tales

In a fun literary lesson in Rocky Point’s Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School, students learned to take a classic fairy tale and brand it as their own, with a twist. Second graders in Kathy Guerrisi’s class chose among at least five books and created some

inspired fractured fairy tales using the story of the “Three Little Pigs.” They revised the wellknown fable by taking one of its elements – the plot, the setting, the characters or the ending – and using their imaginations and even pieces of real life,

to turn their stories into more contemporary versions. Not only did the lesson enrich their understanding of story setting, point of view, conﬂict and resolution, it brought many giggles among their classmates.

Elite Three Village Math Scholars Score In Top Nationally Several Three Village Central School District students earned high honors in this year’s American Mathematics Competitions – AMC 10 and AMC 12. According to the AMC website, these competitions are “both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.” Ward Melville High

School students Amber Luo and Claire Yang scored in the top 5% out of more than 25,000 elite math students worldwide, and P.J. Gelinas Junior High School student Michael Lu scored in the top 1%. The AMC 10 contest is for students in grade 10 or below and covers the high school curriculum up to grade 10. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum including trigonometry, advanced

algebra and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. Both contests provide an opportunity for high school students to develop positive attitudes toward analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. The AMC 10/12 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad.
