For example, a recent college graduate working his or her first professional job will not have the same financial strategy as someone on the cusp of retirement. But one financial strategy that people of all ages can look to for guidance is the 50-30-20 approach. Popularized by United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, the 50-30-20 approach to financial planning can be a valuable resource for anyone trying to develop a budget. The approach is simple yet effective. Under the 5030-20 approach, income is allocated based on this breakdown: · 50 percent of money is spent on needs, including housing costs, health insurance, car payments, and groceries · 30 percent of money is spent on wants, including hobbies, dining out and travel · 20 percent of money is allocated to savings Proponents of the 5030-20 approach note that calculations should be based on after-tax income, or what’s often referred to as “take-home pay.” Professionals with steady paychecks can easily determine their 50-3020 breakdowns by saving a month’s worth of pay stubs and establishing their monthly budget based on what’s coming in. The task can be trickier for self-employed or freelance workers, who may benefit from working with financial planners as they seek to create monthly budgets based on the 50-30-20 approach.

Owners Joe Guerra and Michael Russell are excited about this new business venture and they are no strangers to hard work! Joe has over 40 years of experience in the restaurant, hotel, catering and club experience, which will be evident in their menu options and the flare of the Harbour Club. Michael worked with Wall Street firms and has an extensive background in finance. The two met at the Port Jefferson Country Club. While playing

golf and getting to know each other better pre-pandemic, the two realized they would be good business partners and thought of the idea of opening a restaurant together. Both owners have deep roots on Long Island and share a love for Port Jefferson and all it offers. Among the new health and safety protocols in place: The park will operate at 25 percent capacity, with an e-commerce ticketing system managing two-hour timed entry for all guests. Tickets are purchased online in advance. To encourage social distancing, tickets will be offered for purchase at the door on a capacity only basis. Guests will be given colored wrist bands corresponding to the time on their tickets and Urban Air staff will monitor the process to ensure all guests are able to safely experience the park and exit at their appointed time. All Urban Air Lake

Grove staff will submit to daily temperaure checks, wear masks and practice frequent hand washing. All guests will submit to temperature checks upon entry to the park and in compliance with NYS reequirements, will wear masks while in the park. Hand sanitizer kiosks have been installed throughout the park. Every hour, play spaces and high touch areas will be wiped down and guests will be urged to use hand santiizer. All individualuse attractions are wiped down after each use. A new Urban Cafe ordering app is available to limit human to human transaction around food items. Guests can order on their phones and pick up when ready. Plexiglass barriers

and social distancing have been installed at ALL point of sale registers. Tables and chairs are all spaced six feet apart in accordance with social distancing protocols. The Park HVAC system has been upgraded with MERV-13 anti-microbial filters, as suggested by NYS reopening guidance. Urban Air Adventure Park is a unique destination for Lake Grove and the surrounding residents of Smithtown, Centereach, Stony Brook, St. James, Setauket, Port Jeff, and Mt. Sinai. The 48,000 sq. ft. indoor Adventure Park includes the Urban Air Sky Rider Indoor Coaster, a winding track that allows young thrillseekers flying along 30 feet in the air.

Urban Air Lake Grove Adventure Park Set To Reopen (Again) On March 26 Urban Air Lake Grove, the only indoor adventure park of its kind on Long Island, will re-open for business with new cleaning and health protocols that will create a fun and safe indoor play experience for kids and families, on Friday, March 26 @ 5 p.m. located at 3147 Middle Country Road, Lake Grove, NY 11755. A ribbon cutting will precede the ceremonial opening of the doors to the first guests. Urban Air Lake Grove was closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It reopened briefly in fall 2020 after providing sufficient demonstration that it could operate safely but was ordered closed again five weeks later. A lawsuit filed in February 2021 forced the State of New York to allow Family Entertainment

New York Blood Center Announces A Blood Emergency

New York Blood Center (NYBC) announces a blood shortage in the region, one year after New York was the epicenter of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations like high schools, colleges, and offices. It has been one

year since these groups had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19 and few have been able to resume these lifesaving events. NYBC currently has a 4 day supply of blood, which is well below what is needed by area hospitals. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500

donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Donors with type O and type B blood are especially needed as NYBC currently has a 1-2 day supply of these blood types. “With thousands of New Yorkers getting

vaccinated each day, we are thrilled to watch our state recover from this catastrophic year,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director at New York Blood Center. “As New York bounces back in strides this spring, we need everyone to make an appointment and donate blood to help save lives. While the

end of the pandemic is near, our struggle to fight for those in need continues.” We are taking extra precautions to help prevent the personto-person spread of COVID-19. As always, people are not eligible to donate if they’re experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory

“I want to be a singer when I grow up, too.” “You are an amazing singer.” “Spectacular!” These and other words of appreciation were penned by Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School second graders to Rocky Point High School students. The older students, who created a unique virtual production, “Broadway Musical Revue,” were applauded by the younger

ones in Christina Capaldi and Erin Glennon’s class and commended for their performances. “Many of them expressed how much they enjoyed the virtual show and were inspired by our high school players,” Principal Jonathan Hart said of the numerous colorful cards filled with hearts, rainbows and kind words of admiration. In response to sending the cards to the high school students

and music director Mary Donovan-Cerasuola, the 13 high school performers – Jillian Carley, Jordan Chirivas, Brenna Kiernan, Alexandria Kipp, Samantha Leversen, Jaime McPartland, Adam Olszewski, Renee Ortiz, Shreya Patel, Jacey Ruisi, Devin Siefert, Alexa Vassallo and Emmanuel Watkis – created a short thank-you video as further inspiration for the future singers and actors.

This powerful mantra, used by Rocky Point Middle School music teacher Mrs. Meghan Walter to inspire her students, certainly allows them to bring a positive attitude and their exceptional abilities to their performances. Twice per week, on Tuesday and Friday mornings, eighth grade

orchestra students Cecelia Albertina, Abigail Culley, Sebastian Garske, Christos Giannakos, Brianna Henke, Mia Johnson, Emelina Leccese, Maya MacCarthy, Julia Matthews, Sandra Netburn, Sarah O’Brien, Caiden Palank, Zen Pinkenburg, Fiona Vu and Elif Yilmaz practice and perform music for their teachers and peers in the main lobby of the school.

The volunteer project, Mission: Toothbrush, was spearheaded by Mikaeel and involved several donation drives held within the Three Village Central School District during the past year. The goal of the initiative was to promote the importance of dental hygiene by providing

people who lack the ability to obtain dental and other hygiene products with the necessary supplies. Items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash, shaving cream and diapers will go directly to people in need in the area.

Behind The Jokes Of April Fools’ Day

Pranks, practical jokes and various goofs abound at the start of April, when celebrants around the world mark April Fools’ Day — a tradition that dates back several centuries. Even though April Fools’ Day, also known as All Fools’ Day, has been celebrated for centuries, no one is completely sure of its exact origins. According to History. com, many historians speculate that April Fool’s Day traces its origins to the transition from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian one in 1582. At this point, the start of the new year had

been moved to January 1 from the last week of March. Those who were slow to get the news still celebrated the new year from late March into April and became the object of pranks as a result. One of the more notable pranks included having a paper fish placed on the backs of

unsuspecting individuals and being referred to as poisson d’avril (April fish). This symbolized a young, easily fooled, or hooked fish. During the 1700s, April Fools’ Day spread northward throughout

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-proﬁt organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Patricia, who recently had her wish granted. You could be next! Patricia Bachmore is a 75 year old resident of Amityville. She wished for new furniture and thanks to the Long Island chapter of this national nonproﬁt, her wish was granted! Patricia has fostered and socialized rescue kittens and cats for years. Understandably, that took a toll on her furniture. Although the furniture was old and falling apart, she could not afford to replace it on her own because of her limited income. In December of 2020, The Twilight Wish Foundation granted her with a new sofa and kitchen chairs, which she wished for. In addition to her work with rescue organizations, Patricia is part of the Amityville neighborhood watch program and also works with the Town

of Babylon’s 311 citizens complaint unit. She also assists other senior citizens in her mobile home park with grocery shopping and other errands. THANK YOU PATRICIA FOR ALL OF YOUR SELFLESS EFFORTS! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate ﬁnancial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish.
