The Charity of The Month for February is: Girls on the Run of Long Island www.gotrlongisland.org Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.
Their upcoming spring season will begin the week of March 16th and is shaping up to be their largest season yet! This organization truly makes a difference! See the results from those who have participated:
• 97% of girls said they learned critical life skills • Life skills taught by Girls on the Run have a stronger effect on girls than those taught by tradional sports or physical education programs and positively changes girls during the 10-week program and beyond How you can get involved: If you or someone you know would like to register for their spring program, you can! Smith Haven Mall And Roosevelt Field To Host ‘ZOMBIES 2’ Events Smith Haven Mall and Roosevelt Field invite the community to “ZOMBIES 2” events, aimed at entertaining and delighting children of all ages. The events will take place at Smith Haven Mall on Saturday, February 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Roosevelt Field on Saturday, February 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. For added fun, shoppers can spin the Prize Wheel at Smith Haven Mall’s Guest Services for a chance to win special prizes during the event and enjoy music and additional activities at Roosevelt Field. During the events, families will be able to participate in a variety of activities including;
a craft project to create their own “ZOMBIES 2” sling bag, an exclusive photo opportunity and various giveaways. The fun starts near Center Court at Smith Haven Mall and North Court at Roosevelt Field. These events do not include live character appearances. Disney’s “ZOMBIES 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the Disney Channel Original Movie “ZOMBIES,” is a music and dance-filled story that picks up as cheerleader Addison and zombie football player Zed are readying for Seabrook High’s Prawn, the school’s super-sized prom. However, the arrival of a new group of outsiders – mysterious
werewolves – threatens to shake up Seabrook’s newfound peace and causes a rift in Zed and Addison’s budding romance. “ZOMBIES 2” premieres Friday, February 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Disney Channel. Simon® has collaborated with Disney Channel and Disney Junior to host special events and Disney Junior Play Dates in approximately 100 Simon Malls®, Mills®, and Premium Outlets® across the country. These unique events take place throughout the year and feature rotating activities themed to some of Disney Channel and Disney Junior’s most popular television shows and movies.

They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event. This year’s 5K event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Hofstra University, where over 1000 individuals will run, volunteer or spectate to celebrate!

It wasn't until the Victorian era, when flowers were used to symbolize romantic love, that they became part of wedding ceremonies, according to Modern Weddings magazine.

Two Winter Break Workshops will be offered at Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Educational & Cultural Center with acclaimed puppeteer and artist Liz Joyce from Goat on a Boat and musician and storyteller Johnny Cuomo. Both events will be held February 18 through 20 from 10 am to 11:30 am. From shadow puppets to moving mouth puppets, artist Liz Joyce from “Goat on a Boat” fame will guide children from 6 to 11 year olds in creating a Puppet Theatre and Puppet Making Workshops. Their creations will be used to tell jokes, create short vignettes and also videos.
It will be held on the 1st floor of the Cultural Center. The cost for this workshop is $100 pp for all three days and there is a 10 person minimum, 15 maximum. Music Mornings with Johnny Cuomo offers songs, stories, and movement set to music with activities to celebrate winter. The cost for all three days is $85 pp with a 15 person minimum, 20 maximum. This program is for children 3 to 5 years old of all abilities accompanied by a caregiver and will be held on the 2nd floor of the Cultural Center. Individual day pricing is available for both programs. All proceeds go
to benefit WMHO’s mission to protect, preserve and interpret its historic and environmentally sensitive properties and to offer future education programming. Caring For Older Adults (NAPSI)—With a growing aging population, the amount of family caregivers in the United States is also on the rise. There are nearly 45 million people who serve as a caregiver for a family member or friend who is 50 or older. Serving as a caregiver can
be rewarding but difficult. Often, caregivers are unaware of local aging resources that might be able to assist them. The Eldercare Locator is a free, public service that connects older adults and caregivers to information about local resources and services
such as meal delivery programs, transportation options, home modification assistance and in-home support services. Additionally, caregivers can find out about support groups in their community and programs that offer a break from caregiving
responsibilities. The Eldercare Locator also has free informational brochures for older adults and caregivers on topics such as medication management, preventing falls in the home, transportation options, avoiding financial exploitation, and brain
