Holiday Food Drive For Veterans Saturday November 16th, will be a food pantry collection day. We need turkeys and groceries to supply our Veterans with food for the holidays. If you’re a Veteran in need of a Thanksgiving Turkey and food, please stop down after 1pm on Saturday November 16th or between 7pm-9pm Tuesday eve November 19th. We will also be sorting food pantry donations and any care package donations that come in that day will be sorted and packed/labeled. Bagels and coffee available before 12:00. Anyone wanting to drop off food for lunch for our volunteers please feel free to do so, left over food goes home with Veterans or back to inpatient veteran programs, nothing ever gets wasted. What’s needed: • Food for the Veteran food pantry – canned,
boxed foods and frozen (food store gift cards always appreciated) • Gift cards to retails stores such as Walmart, Target, King Kullen, Stop n Shop • Cold Weather Jackets, gloves, knit caps • Care Package Supplies – snacks, toiletries, batteries, jerky, hard candy, sunflower seeds, protein snacks and drinks, chicken and tuna packets / cans, letters from Home, lotions, moisturizers, feminine products, games, • Tools, safety gear, new work boots for our Trades for Troops program (gift cards for Home Depot, Lowes, Hobby Freight, etc) • Toys, new in store packaging. (gift cards to toy type stores) • Clothing – Men’s (if used please have clean clothes folded in bags marked with sizes on it) new socks, underwear, sweats, etc. • We do Support

New York’s blood supply has never been lower, and New York Blood Center (NYBC) is urgently calling for donors. There has been a significant decline in regular blood donors, and the region’s supply has reached critically low levels. In order to maintain a safe blood supply, a seven-day inventory of all blood types must be continually replenished. Right now, reserves are below that minimum. October has always been the month to recover, to take a breath and know our blood supply will rebound after the tough summer months. Unfortunately, this year, that is not the case. Our region’s blood supply has never been lower. This critical blood shortage stems from decline in donor base and increased demand for blood. We’re hoping that you will share this urgent message to encourage folks to come out to donate. That little extra action can make the difference in the lives of the patients we fight for together.

You can volunteer with the organization, even if it is just for a few hours, to help make a difference in the lives of others. Volunteers can participate in the following areas: Warehouse Sorting & Repacking (lifting is required), Clerical Tasks, Mobile Pantry, Food Pantries, Special Events, Food Drives or their Student Volunteer Corps. Help Mrs. Claus is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, which answers Christmas wishes that are gathered from children in need. These children are living in NYC through the Harlem Dowling agency, a charity helping children succeed since the 1880’s. The Christmas wishes are first written out in the children’s Letters to Santa. Then Help Mrs. Claus steps in and helps to fulfill these wishes. Since inception 9 years ago, Help Mrs. Claus has granted over 2,000 wishes, but they will not stop there! They are currently in the process of gathering gift donations for the upcoming Holiday Season. With plenty of children in need, they are still looking for volunteers and donations. Students from Edith L. Slocum Elementary School in the Connetquot Central School District were recently welcomed Patrick Chierichella of the Rose Brucia Educational Foundation who spoke to students about informative strategies on avoiding strangers.
During the presentation, Mr. Chierichella and his staff talked to the students about being aware of their surroundings, who they interact with and how to make decisions that will ultimately keep them safe. Using a series of engaging skits and characters, students participated in strategies
that would minimize the chances of interacting with a stranger. Founded by Matthew J. Barbis after a tragic event, the Rose Brucia Safety Awareness program focuses on educating elementarylevel students on the concepts of awareness, safety and trust.
