SUPPORTING CANCER RESEARCH - Following the efforts of their peers, Connetquot High School girls volleyball program recently hosted a charity game to support the Dezy Strong Foundation. Matthew “Dezy” DiStefano, a Connetquot resident and Sachem High School North assistant volleyball coach, thanked the crowd for their participation and offered inspirational advice about never giving up in his fight against cancer. In addition to Mr. DiStefano and his team, the district would like to thank Connetquot High School girls volleyball coach Justin Hertz and district parents for organizing the event. The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. You can become involved with the Cemetery of Lost Souls in many ways. They are actively looking for volunteers in the following areas: Digital Marketing (to help with social media marketing), Scare Team Members (actors to help put on the event), Security (watching over the event and making sure all guests are safe), and Bake Team Members (to donate baked

The Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center has announced that it is offering a voucher program for free feral cat and pit bull or pit bull mix spay/neuter. Vouchers will be given to residents who live in the Town of Brookhaven and have feral cats or pit bulls that need to be altered. Surgeries are scheduled by appointment only. For more information, please call the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center at 631451-6950.
Feral Cat Program Vouchers are given to residents who live in the Town of Brookhaven and have feral cats that need to be altered. Two vouchers are issued at a time to each resident. The vouchers are redeemed at the Integrative Veterinary Therapies in Ridge. You must call the clinic to make an appointment once you have the vouchers. Cats must be brought into the clinic in a trap on the day of surgery. The cats will be ear tipped and rabies vaccinated at the time of

surgery. Pit Bull / Pit Bull Mix Program The voucher automatically entitles you to one spay or neuter procedure for your Pitbull or Pitbull mix. To ensure the health and wellbeing of your pet and their ability to undergo surgery safely, we request that all dogs over the age of five undergo a free
blood work screening at least one week before the scheduled surgical procedure. All surgical candidates five years or older must come to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter on a walk-in basis during our normal business hours within those seven days before surgery to allow for the blood to be taken from your pet and sent out for

WEEKLY FARMERS MARKET EXTENDED -The weekly Farmers Market that takes place every Thursday afternoon in the lobby at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville has been such a big success this summer and fall, it will be extended for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays on Tuesday, November 26 and Monday, December 23.
