Shopping Behaviors May Be Altered Due To Concerns About The COVID-19 Virus
A recent survey from the cloud-based voice and analytic supply chain solutions provider Voxware found that consumers were planning to change their approach to holiday shopping as early as August. The survey, which included 500 consumers in the United States and sought to determine how holiday shopping behaviors may be altered due to concerns about the COVID-19 virus, found that 76 percent of respondents intend to purchase more than half of their gifts online in 2020. With that in mind, small business owners can work to build up their e-commerce and delivery capabilities so they are in position to capitalize on a retail season that, while different, can still prove lucrative. In

fact, the earlier businesses prepare for the holiday shopping season, the more lucrative it may be, as 51 percent of respondents to the Voxware survey indicated that they expect to begin holiday shopping earlier than normal this year. In addition, 62 percent of respondents indicated they plan to purchase more stocking stuffers and lastminute gifts online. Small businesses can capitalize on that likelihood by offering free shipping on orders that exceed a certain amount. Such offers may compel consumers to more thoroughly peruse small businesses’ online offerings as they look to find everything from big gifts to stocking stuffers in the hopes of earning free shipping.

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Muratore recently attended a Covidsafe drive-by presentation to honor the recipients of this year’s Distinguished Youth Awards. Bianca Ciaravino, Vincenzo Ciaravino, Scott Alfano and Jessica Alfano, all Selden residents and students at Newfield High School reside in Muratore’s legislative district. The event took place at the Suffolk County Legislative Complex in Hauppauge, and Legislator Muratore presented his honorees
with proclamations to commemorate the occasion. The Suffolk County Legislature places great importance in empowering youth, and therefore established a Distinguished Youth Award program in 2017. The program was designed for encouraging positive development in Suffolk County residents between the ages of 13 and 18, and recognizing young people for becoming wellrounded and more civically engaged individuals. Scott and Jessica Alfano,
who are twins, were both awarded Bronze Medals. Siblings Vincenzo and Bianca Ciaravino each received the Silver Medal. “It is my extreme pleasure recognizing these students. It’s very important to encourage youth who are goaloriented and hardworking, as they represent our communities of the future. Congratulations to all the Distinguished Youth Award participants-I wish you all the best,” stated Muratore.

Large school buses are not equipped with seat belts, but that doesn’t compromise their ability to transport students safely to and from school. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that school buses are designed differently than passenger cars and light trucks. As a result of their unique design, as well as their size and weight, school buses distribute crash forces differently from other vehicles, utilizing a different kind of safety restraint system that is effective at keeping passengers safe. This system is known as “compartmentalization.” The NHTSA says the interiors of large buses protect children without seat belts because of closely spaced seats that have energy-absorbing seat backs. This compartmentalization will keep children from being forced out of their seats during an impact. However, in the United States, small school buses, or those with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, must be equipped with lap or lap/shoulder belts in all seating positions.

The Importance Of Free Play The National Education Association notes that recess and free play are critical to the development of students in grades pre-K through eighth grade. According to the NEA, recess and free play during the school day encourages interpersonal interactions and problem-solving skills, and such opportunities also can prove beneficial for older students. Despite these benefits, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that 40 percent of schools have reduced
or eliminated recess over the last 20 years in an attempt to increase instructional time for students. While that may be understandable, it ignores the many benefits of recess and free play, which the American Academy of Pediatrics says are crucial to students’ mental, emotional, physical, and social development. In addition, the AAP notes that research has shown a connection between recess/free play and improved performance in the classroom. This is true even for older
students, including high schoolers. Regular breaks from the rigors of the classroom provide adolescent students with opportunities to mentally decompress, potentially improving their focus when classroom sessions resume. Such benefits highlight the important role of free play in the development of students, including older students whose school schedules may no longer include time for free play or recess.

You see, every year Chris and his team seek out a charitable organization doing great deeds for others. Commencement In The Courtyard On June 26, nine Connetquot High School seniors became the first in the Class of 2020 to receive their diplomas, thanks to an intimate early graduation ceremony hosted in the school’s outdoor courtyard. Several of these students were scheduled to report for military duty before the school’s late

They provide free home repairs to the frail and elderly, our veterans, people with disabilities and families with children. Those who receive the free home repairs must have met their financial criteria. Their mission as an organization is to repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives. They help Long Island’s economically-disadvantaged homeowners so they can live in comfort and safety while maintaining their independence (RTLI does not service the Hamptons).
Together Long Island has become a well-regarded organization, recognized for their work with rehabbing houses, the building and installation of ramps for those in need and their involvement with communities and organizations that span across Long Island. The upcoming schedule focuses on familyfriendly films and mega-hit blockbuster movies that will make for a fun summer night.
