When Ms. Kelly reached out to us for help, we continually monitored the County’s website to help secure appointments for both of them. It was a pleasure meeting Mr. Vene and his daughter. New York Blood Center (NYBC) announces a blood shortage in the region, one year after New York was the epicenter of the pandemic. Before COVID-19, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations like high schools, colleges, and offices. It has been one
year since these groups had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19 and few have been able to resume these lifesaving events. NYBC currently has a 4 day supply of blood, which is well below what is needed by area hospitals. New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500
donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Donors with type O and type B blood are especially needed as NYBC currently has a 1-2 day supply of these blood types. “With thousands of New Yorkers getting
vaccinated each day, we are thrilled to watch our state recover from this catastrophic year,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director at New York Blood Center. “As New York bounces back in strides this spring, we need everyone to make an appointment and donate blood to help save lives. While the
end of the pandemic is near, our struggle to fight for those in need continues.” We are taking extra precautions to help prevent the personto-person spread of COVID-19. As always, people are not eligible to donate if they’re experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory

Coloring eggs is a beloved Easter tradition. Eggs long have been symbols of fertility and rebirth, making them fitting icons for spring. One story links eggs to Easter as well. According to some religious scholars, Mary Magdalene, the woman who was the first person to see Jesus Christ after His resurrection, was holding a plain egg in her hand while waiting for the emperor to share the good news. The emperor then told her that Jesus’ resurrection was as improbable as that egg suddenly blushing. The egg then turned red. Dyeing eggs is an entertaining activity, but one that also may have some religious significance. Many families will color eggs this Easter, and these guidelines can make the process go smoothly. • Wait until just before coloring to hard-boil eggs. Good Housekeeping recommends boiling eggs for 11 minutes for a hard boil. Do not chill the eggs afterward; warm eggs absorb color more effectively for more vivid results. • Egg dye can stain furniture, clothing or
tablecloths. Therefore, dress in clothing that you’re not worried about staining. Also, cover work surfaces with an old tablecloth and newspapers to soak up any spills. • Make a drying rack to ensure that eggs will dry evenly. This can be a rimmed cookie sheet lined with layers of paper towels to absorb any excess dye that runs off the eggs. Or push pins into thick foam board and place the eggs on top to allow air to circulate. • Consider using glass bowls or ceramic mugs to house the colored dye solutions. These vessels are more sturdy than plastic cups, and less likely to be overturned by eager young hands. • Scissor-style tongs are ideal tools for retrieving eggs from the dye. Eggs tend to slide off of the spoons or wire rings provided in kits, leading to splashing and kids dunking their fingers in to grab eggs. • Stir dyeing cups often to guarantee consistent color. • Use electrical tape to make patterns on Easter eggs. Dip the eggs and let dry. Afterwards, remove the tape to reveal the
designs. • If food coloring-based dyes seem too messy, use watercolor paint sets and allow everyone to get creative. While some people may want to use Easter eggs for recipes later on, it may be safer to boil up a fresh batch of eggs for that purpose, even if it seems wasteful. According to Emily Rubin, RD, LDN of the Thomas Jefferson
University Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, “hardboiled eggs should be refrigerated within two hours of cooking and discarded if left out for more than two hours at room temperature.” Chances are it may take two hours or more for children to find hardboiled eggs hidden by the Easter bunny.

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Patricia, who recently had her wish granted. You could be next! Patricia Bachmore is a 75 year old resident of Amityville. She wished for new furniture and thanks to the Long Island chapter of this national nonprofit, her wish was granted! Patricia has fostered and socialized rescue kittens and cats for years. Understandably, that took a toll on her furniture. Although the furniture was old and falling apart, she could not afford to replace it on her own because of her limited income. In December of 2020, The Twilight Wish Foundation granted her with a new sofa and kitchen chairs, which she wished for. In addition to her work with rescue organizations, Patricia is part of the Amityville neighborhood watch program and also works with the Town
of Babylon’s 311 citizens complaint unit. She also assists other senior citizens in her mobile home park with grocery shopping and other errands. THANK YOU PATRICIA FOR ALL OF YOUR SELFLESS EFFORTS! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Please note, when going to grant a wish, this foundation takes all the necessary safety precautions. P.J. Harbour Club will be a fine dining restaurant with signature cuisine, which will be served informally in a comfortable ambience. It aims to be an innovative restaurant, not only in regard to their menu options, but also to the general concept of dining. Owners Joe Guerra and Michael Russell are excited about this new business venture and they are no strangers to hard work! Joe has over 40 years of experience in the restaurant, hotel, catering and club experience, which will be evident in their menu options and the flare of the Harbour Club. Michael worked with Wall Street firms and has an extensive background in finance. The two met at the Port Jefferson Country Club. While playing
golf and getting to know each other better pre-pandemic, the two realized they would be good business partners and thought of the idea of opening a restaurant together. Both owners have deep roots on Long Island and share a love for Port Jefferson and all it offers. They have taken the time to thoroughly work on their business plan and now they are working towards an early spring opening. The location of the P.J. Harbour Club, 154 West Broadway in Port

Urban Air Lake Grove Adventure Park Set To Reopen (Again) On March 26 Urban Air Lake Grove, the only indoor adventure park of its kind on Long Island, will re-open for business with new cleaning and health protocols that will create a fun and safe indoor play experience for kids and families, on Friday, March 26 @ 5 p.m. located at 3147 Middle Country Road, Lake Grove, NY 11755. A ribbon cutting will precede the ceremonial opening of the doors to the first guests. Urban Air Lake Grove was closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It reopened briefly in fall 2020 after providing sufficient demonstration that it could operate safely but was ordered closed again five weeks later. A lawsuit filed in February 2021 forced the State of New York to allow Family Entertainment
Centers across the state, including Urban Air, to open again under COVID-19 safety protocols. Among the new health and safety protocols in place: The park will operate at 25 percent capacity, with an e-commerce ticketing system managing two-hour timed entry for all guests. Tickets are purchased online in advance. To encourage social distancing, tickets will be offered for purchase at the door on a capacity only basis. Guests will be given colored wrist bands corresponding to the time on their tickets and Urban Air staff will monitor the process to ensure all guests are able to safely experience the park and exit at their appointed time. All Urban Air Lake
Grove staff will submit to daily temperaure checks, wear masks and practice frequent hand washing. All guests will submit to temperature checks upon entry to the park and in compliance with NYS reequirements, will wear masks while in the park. Hand sanitizer kiosks have been installed throughout the park. Every hour, play spaces and high touch areas will be wiped down and guests will be urged to use hand santiizer. All individualuse attractions are wiped down after each use. A new Urban Cafe ordering app is available to limit human to human transaction around food items. Guests can order on their phones and pick up when ready. Plexiglass barriers
and social distancing have been installed at ALL point of sale registers. Tables and chairs are all spaced six feet apart in accordance with social distancing protocols. The Park HVAC system has been upgraded with MERV-13 anti-microbial filters, as suggested by NYS reopening guidance. Urban Air Adventure Park is a unique destination for Lake Grove and the surrounding residents of Smithtown, Centereach, Stony Brook, St. James, Setauket, Port Jeff, and Mt. Sinai. The 48,000 sq. ft. indoor Adventure Park includes the Urban Air Sky Rider Indoor Coaster, a winding track that allows young thrillseekers flying along 30 feet in the air.
