2020 Prom Boutique Gown Collection Hosted at Westy Self Storage Westy Self Storage continues its support for the 12th consecutive year of the Prom Boutique sponsored by the Long Island Volunteer Center. Westy Self Storage in East Northport is pleased to host this drive as a designated collection site for donations of new and gently-used prom gowns, bridesmaid dresses, special occasion dresses, shoes, handbags and costume jewelry. Donations are accepted through March 1. Westy has also provided free storage space for the items collected and will assist in transporting them to the Prom Boutique. The Prom Boutique distributes all dresses and accessories free of charge to young women of families across Long Island who cannot easily absorb the expense of a new gown to attend their prom, graduation, sweet sixteen or other significant occasion. Now in its 26th year, the Prom Boutique has helped thousands of deserving young women feel confident at their special event in the gown of their choice. Please help your community by
dropping off a donation at Westy Self Storage in East Northport located at 4049 Jericho Turnpike, across from Barnes and Noble. “In addition to high school graduates who would not otherwise have been able to attend prom, the program has benefited entire families who are given relief from the financial burden and stress associated with planning for a special event such as prom,” said Simone Solz Leo, Executive Director of Long Island Volunteer Center. “We are overwhelmed by the amount of support Westy continues to provide. They have truly been a model community partner over the years ensuring that our storage requirements are met and that logistical needs for drop offs and delivery of thousands of donated dresses are accomplished seamlessly. We could not help make prom dreams come true without Westy.” “Sharing in the celebration of milestones of young women, such as the prom, brings us great satisfaction,” said Tim Mincin, District Director
of Westy Self Storage, East Northport location. “It is our pleasure to be a part of the Prom Boutique.” Westy is open 7 days a week. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Call 631-462-3200 or visit www. westy.com for directions. About Westy Self Storage Westy offers affordable state-of-the-art storage solutions for individuals and businesses. Westy was founded in 1990 and since then the superior quality of their buildings has revolutionized the self storage industry. Among Westy’s family of customers are homeowners, art collectors, antique dealers, retailers, and people who consider their Westy room an extension of their home or office. Waverly Showcases Coding Skills Students at Waverly Avenue Elementary School in second, third, fourth and fifth grade recently participated in a handson activity utilizing the coding website Scratch as part of a lesson during the weeklong Hour of Code initiative. Led by library media specialist Louann
Cronin, students worked independently using laptops to explore the vast coding capabilities of the website. Students coded motion, sound, appearance and setting for a scene that incorporated a character of their choosing. The activity allowed students in fourth and fifth grade to improve upon the skills they have
learned participating in similar activities in the past. In addition, first grade students were introduced to the coding program Kodable to establish introductory coding skills before participating in more advanced lessons in the future.

No questions asked and no one gets turned away. This past Christmas, the set up what was that of a toy store, both new and used toys were on display and many parents were able to come in and shop. To meet other immediate needs for its neighbors throughout the year, a back corner of the store serves as a food pantry. The shelves often have bread, cereal, baby food and snacks. Brittany and Debbie, however, don’t stop there. They have proactively and aggressively gone to many of our school districts to find the underserved, the hungry and those in need of assistance. They’ve teamed up with some districts to join various programs and are utilizing these opportunities to feed hundreds of hungry children each month. At Angels, not only will your items live on in a useful manner, but imagine them actually breathing new life into someone else. In 2015, a local grandmother suddenly had to take on full-time care of her young granddaughter and for this, she was not prepared. Debbie Loesch and her daughter Brittany turned to social media to simply ask random people if they had the items that were needed and if they be willing to donate them to this woman in her moment of need. Various people within certain Facebook groups did not take well to these requests and the motherdaughter duo caught some very negative backlash. Believing that there would be many people willing to help if they knew of the immediate need, they created a new Facebook Page: Angels of Long Island. With the purest of intention, neighbors helping neighbors, once again they asked friends and family “Can you help this woman, a neighbor, in need?” Quickly about 200 people connected to their page and within one week the woman’s needs were meet. And so it began, Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Knowing there were so many others in need, Debbie and Brittany started collecting whatever people were willing to donate. They stored it throughout their house and yard. As the
stockpile grew, they used a trailer, sheds, tents and tarps to not allow anything to go to waste knowing at some time, someone may need it. They were now consistently matching up many people to what they needed and knew they were on to something big. In 2017 Angels of LI opened a 3800 square foot thrift store located at 350-23 E. Main Street in Patchogue. Now they have all their donations displayed in a store setting. When someone is in crisis or moving from crisis to something more stable, they can come in and simply shop for what they need. Bed linens, furniture, pots and pans, clothes (within some guidelines of course) but all for free! The thrift store is open to the public to come purchase items as well. The money raised from sales directly supports the many other services their outreach program provides. With the help of their now over 60,000 followers, the Patchogue location hosts a few annual events all in line with their mission. The Angels, who are run solely by volunteers, turn their entire parking lot into an extension of the store. They set up a system for families during their “Back to School” event to go through and choose many items such as backpacks, school supplies, clothes, and shoes.

PUZZLE ANSWERS:
OCLI Brings Industry Leading Ophthalmology Care to South Bay OCLI is now accepting patients needing eye care at a new location in Patchogue, directly across the street from Long Island Community Hospital. The address is 100 Hospital Road, Suite 216, Patchogue, NY 11772, phone number, (631) 8283588. Chasidy Singleton, MD, will be seeing patients on a full-time basis at the new location. Voted among the Best Doctors in America for 2015, 2016, and 2019 and earning a 5-Star Patient Satisfaction Award in 2013 and 2015, Dr. Singleton is a valuable addition to the South Bay community. “I am extremely excited to be part of this latest OCLI expansion effort,” the doctor notes. “This is an ideal situation for me to provide my comprehensive ophthalmology expertise in an office environment showcasing the very latest and finest technology available. I look forward to offering my patients a superior eye care experience.” In addition, Jack Oats, MD, and John Wittpenn, MD, will also be available to patients in the Patchogue office, as they continue
to see patients in the OCLI East Setauket and Port Jefferson locations. Both Drs. Wittpenn and Oats have a long history of caring for patients in Suffolk County. Dr. Wittpenn says he looks forward to the expansion. “As OCLI continues to strengthen our Suffolk county presence, we offer additional patients greater access to the exceptional eye care provided by the renowned OCLI team of eye care providers.” In all, the OCLI Long Island roster includes close to 50 highly skilled eye surgeons in each major eye care subspecialty, six Doctors of Optometry, three Physician Assistants, and one NYS Licensed Aesthetician. These providers include past presidents of major professional organizations, authors of prestigious scientific articles, esteemed clinical professors, volunteers with international eye health missions, and some of the top minds in ocular medicine. Dr. Jack Oats is pleased be part of this latest Suffolk County addition. “The Patchogue practice in the South Bay community
further demonstrates the OCLI commitment to extending a higher level of eye care throughout Long Island. I’m pleased to offer my patients another convenient, state-of-the-art office location to serve the full scope of their eye care needs.” Founded in 1997, OCLI (http://www.ocli.net) is one of the leading ophthalmology practices in the United States. OCLI boasts 28 state-of-the-art medical facilities across the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut tri-state area, housing the most advanced technology available, to offer patients a variety of ophthalmic services and treatments. OCLI is led by 54 highly skilled ophthalmologists in each major sub-specialty of eye care, providing comprehensive eye care services, including treatment for cataracts, corneal disease, refractive surgery, glaucoma, oculoplastics, retinal disease, and neuroophthalmology. OCLI also employs six Doctors of Optometry, three Physician Assistants, and one NYS Licensed Aesthetician.

“We are very excited to offer Long Island schools an opportunity to have their music programs objectively evaluated,” said LIMHOF Vice Education Committee Chairman Tom Needham. “We will not only honor programs but will also share feedback and learn more about the challenges each school faces as we continue to support and promote music education on Long Island.” Applications will be reviewed by a panel of music educators some whom have been recognized by
the Long Island Music Hall of Fame as “Educators of Note.” High Schools will be given designations of Gold with Distinction, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Emerging. Application categories included program details, inclusion of standards, faculty, as well as community and board support.
