Applications for Connetquot Central School District’s 20222023 Universal Pre-Kindergarten program are now available on the district’s website, http://www. ccsdli.org/our_district/universal_ pre-k. The UPK program will be full day, run only by SCOPE and will be housed in district elementary schools. Final locations for 20222023 have yet to be determined. All interested residents are encouraged to apply. To be eligible, your child must turn 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2022. Applicants will be selected by a lottery to attend the full day program. All completed forms and required documentation must be submitted to Central Registration via email to registration@ccsdli.org; faxed to

February 2nd was an opportunity for the community to thank him for his continued loyalty and dedication to the children of the Connetquot school district. Maniaci has often said that he “… was born to make other people look good,” and Connetquot parents and coaches can attest to his dedication to show the positive side of Connetquot life. A Proclamation from the Connetquot Board of Education, along with a Citation from Islip Town Supervisor Angie M. Carpenter were presented to Maniaci by Dr. Adams. A portrait of Maniaci and his trusty Nikon was on display during Wednesday’s celebration. The portrait will hang in the corridor leading to the entrance of Connetquot’s ‘new’

gymnasium. Congratulations and thank you to Mr. Maniaci for his efforts on behalf of the children of Connetquot. At the conclusion of the ceremony Maniaci thanked everyone who helped organize this ‘special night’. He said, “… but now I’d like to say thank you to all the wonderful students, athletes, teachers and coaches who have brought such joy to my life.” He ended his remarks by saying, “Finally and most importantly, thank you to the parents who gave me the opportunity to work with their children, and the chance to tell the community about the positive side of Connetquot life.” Photos courtesy of

SACHEM BOE RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE - At the Dec. 5 meeting of the Sachem Central School District Board of Education, the board recognized Seneca Middle School eighth grade student Nicholas Golding for his outstanding effort during the school’s Soctober sock drive. Nicholas used the power of social media to spread awareness to his family, friends and community members to get help and was able to collect over 1,200 pairs of socks to benefit those in need. For the last 15 years Maniaci could be seen on the sidelines carrying his Nikon camera covering all Connetquot sports, and classroom activities.

The Long Island Pet Expo returns for the first time since the outbreak of COVID on March 5-6, 2022, with fur flying entertainment, dog sporting competitions and educational programs designed for the whole family. The event returns to the Suffolk Federal Credit Union Arena and features many special attractions, pet adoptions and outstanding shopping for pet lovers and their pets. “The Long Island area is passionate about animals and pets of all kinds,” said show co-producer Karen Garetano of Family Pet Shows, which runs seven similar events in the northeast. “We are excited to be back in the area after a long, unplanned break. The number of pet licenses

in the region has almost doubled since the start of COVID, and the interest in the event seems to have doubled too based on our phones and social media activity.” The 80+ special exhibits always feature some of the hottest new products coming out often before they hit the retail shelves. Dogs on leashes are always welcome, and several area rescue groups with adoptable pets will be on hand. Popular performers and presenters include Diana Frohman and her beautiful Dancing Dogs. Schutzhund Demonstration by Maximum K9 Service , the Dog Lovers Days Lure Course, Johnny Peers Muttville Mix, Doggie U K9 Academy Rainforest Reptiles, TICA

Championship Cat Shows and more. “We always have fun at these events, but we also are strong supporters of responsible pet ownership and humane values when it comes to all issues involving animals and pets,” said Garetano. “We partner with several community organizations, shelters, veterinarians and other animal lovers educate and inform when it comes to best practices for training, feeding and all aspects of pet care.” Community and rescue organizations participating in the show include Tylers Rescue, Chippy’s Angels to the Rescue, Haven Animal Foundation, Last Chance Animal Rescue, Pet Partners, LI Golden Retriever Rescue, and more The event is expected to draw over 10,000 attendees over the weekend. Admission is Adults $15, Kids 3-11 are $6, and those under three years old are always free. Saturday March 5th the hours are 10 am to 7 pm, and on Sunday, March 6th, from 10 am to 5pm. Connetquot Boys’ Varsity Basketball Falls To Playoff Bound Newfield HS The Connetquot HS boys’ varsity basketball team fell to playoff-bound Newfield HS at home, on February 2nd. Connetquot kept the score close early, but Newfield’s 23-9 burst in the third quarter put the game out of reach for the T-birds. Connetquot’s roster numbers 8 healthy players due to illness and injuries at this point in the season. Connetquot’s scorers against Newfield were Catalano (9), Pinero (8), Youmans (8), Maniaci (6) and Moore (6). Newfield improved to 10-8 while the T-birds are 2-11 in Suffolk league II. The Reboli Center for Art & History in Stony Brook will for the first time feature the photographs of the late artist Joseph Reboli and several wellknown Long Island and New York based photographers such as: Donna Crinnian; Jeremy Dennis; Vanessa Fischer; Daniel Jones; Jacques LeBlanc; Timothy McCarthy; Jessica Neilson; Patricia Paladines; Matthew Raynor, Paul Scala; Leonid Shishov; Corinne Tousey; Marlene Weinstein; and Jo-Anne Wilson. The exhibit is titled Through the Lens and can be viewed through March 27, 2022. In conjunction with this exhibit, a companion show is in the History Room focusing on the life and work of nature photographer, Howard Eskin, a patron of the arts and dear friend of Joseph Reboli, who also collected many of his paintings. The Reboli Center is grateful to Lisa Eskin for lending items and for providing background information. JEREMY DENNIS PHOTOGPRAHER Eskin concentrated on photographing nature, and many of his pictures were published by the Audubon Society. In addition, there will be a slideshow depicting the evolution of photography from when the first recorded photograph was taken in the early 1800s. “Just as Joe’s paintings glowed with illuminous light, so do his photographs. Joe was not widely known for his photography, but he really enjoyed it and I am happy to share that side of him. I have known the Eskin family for a longtime, and am very proud to document Howard’s life and work as part of this new exhibit,” said Lois Reboli, a founder and president of the Reboli Center for Art & History.
