TIP #1: Wear proper footwear. Proper footwear

lots, walk consciously. Instead of looking down, look up and see where your feet will move next to anticipate ice or an uneven surface. Occasionally scan from left to right to ensure you are not in the way of vehicles or other hazards. TIP #4: Make sure you can hear. While seeing the environment is important, you also want to be sure you can hear approaching traffic and other noises. Avoid listening to music or engaging in conversation that may prevent you from hearing oncoming traffic or snow removal equipment. TIP #5: Anticipate ice. Be weary of thin sheets of ice that may appear as wet pavement (black ice). Often ice will appear in the morning, in shady spots or where the sun shines during the day and melted snow refreezes at night. TIP #6: Walk steps slowly. When walking down steps, be sure to grip handrails firmly and plant

your feet securely on each step. TIP #7: Enter a building carefully. When you get to your destination such as school, work, shopping center, etc., be sure to look at the floor as you enter the building. The floor may be wet with melted snow and ice. TIP #8: Be careful when you shift your weight. When stepping off a curb or getting into a car, be careful since shifting your weight may cause an imbalance and result in a fall. TIP #9: Avoid taking shortcuts. Shortcuts are a good idea if you are in

a hurry, but may be a bad idea if there is snow and ice on the ground. A shortcut path may be treacherous because it is likely to be located where snow and ice removal is not possible. TIP #10: Look up. Be careful about what you walk under. Injuries also can result from falling snow/ice as it blows, melts, or breaks away from awnings, buildings, etc. Following these tips will help ensure that you survive the snow and ice season safely. It’s usually team spirit that the Stony Brook University Men’s Basketball team brings to the court each game, but during a special holiday visit to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital on Monday, December 9th, there was a different type of spirit and cheer roaming the halls. The team took a break from practice to come mingle with some of the youngest Seawolves fans in the pediatric emergency department, and pediatric acute care unit. With

presents in hand, the players shot some hoops with these little patients, took photos and had some fun with the kids in the playroom. The team’s efforts brought exactly what they hoped for, smiling young faces and holiday joy. During the team’s visit, coach Steve Pikiell presented L. Reuvan Pasternak, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Stony Brook University Hospital and Vice President for Health Systems, Stony Brook Medicine, with a

Stony Brook University Athletics ‘family-4-pack’ of tickets to each SBU Men’s Basketball home game to kids and their families who are currently admitted or who have been discharged from the Children’s Hospital. Coach Pikiell is no stranger to generous donations; he and his family donated $25,000 in May of 2012 to Stony Brook Children’s that was then matched by an anonymous donor, raising the value to $50,000.

For the second year in a row, the Rotary Club of the Moriches presented Breakfast with Santa, which took place December 8th inside the dining hall of Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck. Nearly 300 people attended the event. Proceeds went to benefit the camp. Guests were served pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee by members of the Moriches Rotary Club and the Interact Clubs from Eastport South Manor, Center Moriches and East Moriches. Following the

breakfast, everyone had the opportunity to meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and get their pictures taken with them. In addition, guests took part in a 50/50 raffle and raffles for a chance to win a variety of prizes that included children’s toys and Christmas decorations. Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is a resident summer camp serving children and young adults ages 6-21 with both physical and developmental special needs. Its mission is to help these children

to achieve equality, dignity, and maximum independence through a safe quality program of camping, recreation and education. Savor The Season By: Jamie Lynn Ryan One week. Seven days. One hundred sixty eight hours. (We won’t get into minutes and seconds – you get the idea.) This is precisely how much time remains before Christmas. And with the virtual countdown comes that age-old holiday anxiety, the mad rush to finish writing out the greeting cards, shopping for gifts, wrapping, cleaning, cooking, baking… whatever your traditions call for in the race to conjure that yearly sense of merriment. Right. The holiday spirit. That is what all the fuss

is about, after all. Lest we forget the reason for all the racing around, the endless “To Do” lists, the exorbitant credit card bills… all for a day or two of celebration with family and friends, neighbors and loved ones. Seems like an awful lot of effort doesn’t it? This is why, when everyone else is busy ripping down the Christmas decorations on December 26th, I say wait. Savor it a little longer. Extend the festivities. You put all that time and effort into preparing for the occasion – might as well enjoy it as long as you can.

(Note: All remnants of Santa Claus should be removed by July. No exceptions.) Of course, all of this is irrelevant to those who start their Christmas shopping in January and are finished decorating by Halloween. Seriously folks – enjoy one season, and one holiday, at a time. What’s the big rush? This time of year is not one long list to be accomplished in as little time as humanly possible; it is made up of moments to be cherished, memories to reflect upon and add to with each passing year. Region A “Top Peformer” Yesterday, the Long Island region was awarded $83 million in Regional Economic Development Awards. New York State’s Regional Councils were created by Governor Cuomo in 2011 in an effort to jumpstart the economy and create jobs. The initiative has redesigned the state’s approach to economic development from a top-down model to a communitybased, performancedriven approach where community, business and academic leaders develop strategic plans tailored to their region’s unique strengths and resources in order to spur economic development. “I would like to thank the members of the Long Island’s Regional Economic Development Council for their steadfast commitment to supporting projects that will grow and strengthen Long Island’s Economy,” said County Executive Bellone. Long Island was designated a Top Performer. Highlights of the 90 Suffolk County projects funded include: · $2,000,000 to Stony Brook University to build a new Innovation and Discovery Facility designed to enhance the business recruitment power of START-UP NY and stimulate a publicprivate partnership for building construction. · $2,000,000 to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) to renovate a facility and establish a Therapeutics Discovery Center, which will greatly accelerate translational research efforts at CSHL aimed at developing new therapeutics and diagnostics for cancer and

neurological disorders. · $2,000,000 to support high performance computing investments at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) as well as Hofstra University. Hofstra will create a Robotics Laboratory in the School of Engineering to support expanded enrollment, workforce demand, and burgeoning technologies including artificial intelligence, robotics and 3-D and 4-D printing, while BNL will acquire new high performance computing equipment for the benefit of scientific and industrial users across the region and state. · $1,500,000 to Meadows at Yaphank-mixed use development comprised of residential, retail, office hospitality, parks and open space in Traditional Neighborhood Design. · $1,000,000 to Brookhaven National Lab will expand 200 acre solar array to include a multi-region electric grid research test facility. The project includes a 1MW solar research array to be connected to the BNL electrical network. · $1,000,000 to Islip Resource Recovery Agency This project will construct two compressed natural gas vehicle filling stations, including a fully- public, four-nozzle, fast fill station in Ronkonkoma, NY and a slow fill station in Oakdale, NY. This project is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and expand the alternative fuel vehicle network in New York State. · $285,000 to Long Island Wine Council- This program is a multimodal transportation and marketing initiative to generate visitor traffic

from the NY metro area, east coast, national and international source markets during off-season and midweek periods. By opening the East End of Long Island to new customers from the NY metro area and other east coast population centers, we expect that this program will draw thousands of new visitors to the region. · $997,000 to St. Joseph’s College-Renovation of a St. Joseph’s College (SJC) building on its Patchogue Campus to create a Center for Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) in response to economic changes on Long Island and demand for trained hospitality professionals. · $1,000,000 to Suffolk County Department of Public Works to Install sewer infrastructure in the Kings Park Central Business District for a 110 acre, 140 lot central business district area that is adjacent to a railroad station for Kings Park downtown business revitalization effort. · $1,500,000 to Suffolk County Economic Development and Planning-Connect Long Island- This project will advance the creation of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) demonstration corridor along a 17.2 mile roadway. Specific components of this project include the retrofit and branding of six buses, procurement of two new hybrid buses, construction of BRT stations, pedestrian infrastructure, signage, queue jumps, innovative technologies such as transit signal priority (TSP), pedestrian information displays, planning and design.

There are so many tasks on the checklist that I call my daily routine that it is hard to cram them all into a twentyfour hour time period. Being a student is a fulltime job. Sure, I don’t have to worry about bills, and I don’t have many major responsibilities; but sometimes the stress is too much. As much as I enjoy going to school and being as involved as I am, there comes a time when I just need a break. Thankfully, in just a few days it will be Christmas Vacation.

Over two weeks off with no responsibilities. By then, I will be all done applying to college. The ball will be in their court. At that point, there will be nothing I can do but wait and hope my dream school makes the right decision. Once Christmas Vacation rolls around, I won’t have to worry about anything. I will finally be able to focus on having a great senior year. There is plenty of time to discover what career is right for me. For now, I am content just being a dedicated student, and more importantly, a happy kid.

Mr. Arnett, Ms. Saetta and Mr. Russell began exchanging ideas about what type of sculpture to create. After many conversations, the idea of a phoenix emerged. “The Phoenix sculpture symbolizes the rebirth of the music Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck festival at

and symbolizes the strength of the children that attend the camp,” says Ms. Saetta. Although the sculpture is not yet completed, it is coming together as feathers beneath a globe with a forceful vortex above it. Essentially, it’s pushing a Phoenix to fly higher. For the finishing touches, musical notes will be added around the globe. Mr. Arnett began working on the one-of-a-kind sculpture in July, about a month after his meeting with Ms. Saetta and Mr. Russell. The sculpture

is expected to be fully completed soon, although Mr. Arnett is not sure of an exact date yet because of weather conditions. Mr. Arnett has been wood carving for over 30 years and has had a sculpture business on Long Island for ten years. “This is definitely one of my largest sculptures I’ve done and I’m ecstatic to make one for the camp,” says Mr. Arnett. “I love contributing to a great organization that helps children and young adults with special needs.”

Local artist Todd Arnett has been using his creativity on the grounds of Camp-Pa-QuaTuck by creating a wooden sculpture near Kaler’s Pond. The unnamed sculpture was carved out of an elevenfoot tall, 800-pound black cherry tree and made into a Phoenix. It was placed on a 5,000-pound illuminated base on November 10 at the camp. The sculpture was inspired by the ideas of Gail Saetta and Matt Russell, Bradstock Music Festival volunteers who have been organizing the festival at the camp annually and have been installing lights throughout the camp for the past two years. When it looked like Bradstock would no longer continue because another music venue was not able to

special “Christmas Angels.” The festival raised more than $4,000 for The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and was enjoyed by more than 500 community members, Foundation and Guild board members, staff and elected officials. Fire Department, along with his elves and friends from the North Pole. In addition, attendees had their photos taken in a 15 ft. giant snow globe. Students from St. John the Baptist High School and Harborfields High School were among the volunteers who helped make the event a success.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Correction Officer Recruits, as part of their Academy training, must now complete a community service project prior to graduation. Correction Officer Recruit Class 13-153 performed a successful food drive and will deliver their donation to the Lighthouse Mission in Bellport, on Friday, December 13th.

The recruits are scheduled to graduate on Friday, December 20th. Sheriff Vincent DeMarco implemented the community service requirement this summer to emphasize to new officers the importance of giving back to their communities, to encourage team building and to enhance morale. “I think it’s important

that members of law enforcement understand their roles as public servants. Community service is a way to reinforce that message, and it helps to foster important connections between our officers and the communities they are entrusted to serve,” stated DeMarco.

Life Saving Training

It was an opportunity of a lifetime - for saving lives - and over 270 Sayville students signed on. The Sayville High School Physical Education staff, in cooperation with the American Heart Association, offered heart-saver CPR and AED training/certification in physical education classes to Sayville High School students who chose to participate. While the cost for the CPR and AED training and certification was $20.00 per student, the training was invaluable. According to the American Heart Association, these CPR and AED learning programs “help to increase survival rates by training individuals for quick responses. Cardiac arrest is a leading

cause of death in the U.S., but when ordinary people know CPR and how to operate an AED, a victim’s survival rate can double, or even triple.” Administered properly “and immediately to sudden cardiac arrest victims, CPR/AED performance can save lives.” During the hands-on portion of the training, students watched a training video first before they were assigned CPR manikins and AED simulator kits. Guest instructors from the Long Island Rescue Services taught the students not only to understand the automated commands but how to obey the signals so as not to cause further harm to themselves or the victims. The students, remembering the

successful rescue last year with a school custodian, realized the possibility or need could arise anywhere and showed genuine concern for the training. Their training ended with demonstrations about how and when to help a choking victim. Thanks to the initiating efforts of P.E. teacher Jennifer Wittman-Cahill, Sayville is now one of only a few school districts on Long Island to offer the training for Physical Education students. It is indeed a comfort to know that by giving our Sayville students the opportunity to be trained and certified means adding hundreds of lifesavers to our community.

RECYCLING TO HELP THOSE IN NEED - Connetquot Central School District’s Edward J. Bosti Elementary School first graders, with the help of their parents, recently raised more than $60 by collecting and recycling water bottles and soda cans. The students bought food items and a gift certificate for a turkey, which they stuffed in a decorated box of ‘goodies’ to donate to local families in need. The interactive exercise was coordinated by the first grade teacher, Ms. Prin and Youth and Family Services (YFS) coordinator Mrs. Lynn Slovin.

Warm Fuzzy Feeling

Addressing the hardships of other children who might be cold or in need became the holiday mission of this year’s Cherry Avenue Elementary Student Council in Sayville. To accomplish this, the students teamed up with Project Linus, a nonprofit organization that provides homemade blankets for children. As they have been doing every other Monday since September, approximately sixty dedicated Student Council Fourthand Fifth-grade boys and girls volunteered their mornings, beginning as early as 8 a.m., to make their community and school a better place. With teacher advisors Susan Metzler, Jennifer Fee, and Jeanette Georges, the students already worked on projects “that positively affect Sayville, neighboring

towns, and their school,” Mrs. Jeanette Georges said. “So far this year, the students have helped decorate and sort items for our troops overseas, write cards to Veterans, and decorate ornaments for the school’s giving tree.” On a chosen day in December, Mrs. Fee arranged all the blankets and supplies for the Student Council in the gymnasium. When the students arrived, they collaborated on the task to make fringes for the fleece blankets. While Fifthgrader Luca DeStefano helped his younger peers knot the fringe on his snowman themed fleece blanket, Fourth-grader Abbey White shared a common sentiment, “We are so lucky, to be healthy and have all we need. I hope this blanket cheers up a child who isn’t feeling

well!” Mrs. Metzler and Mrs. Georges agreed, “This project has allowed the students to work together and appreciate all that they have in the process!” Mrs. Georges added, “They enjoyed the project knowing that it will help children feel cozy during the holidays.” When they were done, the Cherry Avenue “Blanketeers” imagined their blankets providing warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or in need. After the blankets were dropped off at an Oakdale location for delivery to local hospitals and shelters, the students wondered when they might hear from Project Linus in January, to find out exactly where their hard work found a home for the holidays.

SEEKING DEGREES - Recently, Legislator Thomas Barraga met with students seeking their Bachelor’s degree with Empire State College. The students came in to discuss health issues facing Suffolk County. There was an in depth discussion on topics including the Sagamore Children’s Psychiatric Hospital in Dix Hills, the future privatizing of the remaining six Suffolk County Health Clinics and the recent closing of the John Jay Foley Nursing Facility.

In near freezing weather over 600 runners participated in a festive 5K road race which started and ended by the Shorefront Park in the Village of Patchogue on Sunday. With the assistant of sponsors and many volunteers, one from far away as Russia, the race went smoothly.

President, Dr. Robert Borowski, commented that everything went smoothly from the festive response of the runners, the Village of Patchogue, municipal service organizations, businesses and volunteers to Kiwanis family members. Laura Cummings, and presenter, Patti Seal,

HURRICANE GUIDE - More than 100 fifth grade students at Connetquot Central School District’s Edward J. Bosti Elementary School students recently created a ‘Hurricane Preparedness Guide’ booklet to help their community better prepare against hurricanes. Each 5th grade student researched and compiled information that was added to the booklet, which explains the nature of hurricanes and the dangers associated with storms. The purpose of this exercise was to educate students about how to prepare in the event of future storms like Superstorm Sandy.

Here’s dedication and persistence for you. In just 15 days, students from the Eastern Suffolk BOCES (ESBOCES) Animal Science Program at Brookhaven Technical Center (BTC) collected towels, food, bones, quilts, and $600. Yes, in addition to bins of non-perishable items, they raised $600 and donated it to the Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton. The Kent Animal Shelter is a private, notfor-profit humane society that provides a haven for homeless, abused, and abandoned animals until new homes can be found. The shelter never destroys

an animal unless incurably ill. Linda Mac Donald, office manager at Kent, accepted the $600 and other sundries saying that the donation would be “life changing” for the animals. “One hundred percent will go directly to the care and feeding of these homeless animals,” she said. The students said they heard a public service announcement (PSA) on the radio that Kent needed donations. They asked their teacher Lisa Mongiello if they could hold a fundraiser before Thanksgiving. They were determined and they raised the $600 by selling candy

grams and muffins. Ms. Mongiello said, “I am using the Mutt-igrees curriculum in my classroom. The goal is to develop and implement initiatives that support calm, confident, and caring kids. It’s an approach to teaching students social, emotional, and critical skills that will help them interacting with people and animals.” Students enrolled in the ESBOCES Animal Science Program are preparing themselves for careers related to working with animals. The course affords advanced college credit from Suffolk County Community College.

Ms. Susan White, Principal of Connetquot’s John Pearl Elementary School in Bohemia took part in several interactive skits performed by the school’s 5th grade Peer Moderators. On October 22nd, Ms. White and YFS (Youth & Family Services) Coordinator Mrs. Donna Leopardi, performed several anti-bully skits as a kickoff to the district’s United We Stand for a

Drug and Bullying Free Community week. The 5th graders acted out the danger of illegal drugs, and the scourge of bullying. The performances demonstrated how being ‘mean’ verbally, or physically in a threatening manner is not only inappropriate, but hurtful, especially to youngsters. The audience was encouraged to speak up when they encounter a bullying situation, not

stand by, but try to get the attention of an adult who could help. Ms. White thanked the Peer Mediators and Mrs. Leopardi for the thoughtful skits, and the important messages they shared with their classmates. During Connetquot’s United We Stand … week, district students renew their commitment to a healthy drug-free, and bullyingfree, lifestyle.

The group of student-athletes committed to athletic programs at Franklin Pierce College, Stony Brook University, Tampa University, Dominican College, Fairmont State University, Columbia University, Dowling College, St. John’s University and Cortland University. The graduating seniors who lettered in baseball, lacrosse, cross country and volleyball were joined by their parents and coaches at the ‘Commitment Day’ ceremony.

Fire Safety Presentation

Ms. Susan White, Principal of Connetquot’s John Pearl Elementary School in Bohemia welcomed members of the Bohemia Volunteer Fire Department (BFD) on October 17th. The local volunteers spoke to John Pearl students about fire safety at home, as well as school. The day’s program began with an informative, animated video about fire safety. Students were then taken to the BFD smoke

trailer. At the ‘smokehouse’ students would experience what it would be like to be escape from a ‘smokey’ room at home. The trailer smoke is safe, and artificial, and students learn to get down on the floor, below the ‘smoke’ to ‘escape’. BFD Commisioner Frank Nuzzo, 2nd Assistant Chief Sterling Haynes and their fellow firefighters demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers, had the students perform ‘stop, drop and roll’,

and answered student questions. Youngsters also had the opportunity to see, and feel, the texture of a real firefighters safety clothing. During Fire Prevention Week national attention is given to promoting fire safety and education. Ms. White thanked Commissioner Nuzzo, Ass’t Chief Haynes along with their dedicated volunteers for sharing their important message of fire safety with John Pearl students.

On Tuesday, October 15th, Idle Hour Elementary School Principal Mrs. Denise Toscano welcomed Mr. Sturchio, a volunteer member of Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) who would address a very successful bully prevention program to 3rd and 4th graders. The Oakdale youngsters would take part in a very successful program

entitled ‘Steer Clear of Bullies’. It has been reported that between 35,000 to 55,000 children in Nassau and Suffolk Counties spend each school day in fear of bullies. CAPS volunteers hold two session workshops with the youngsters, over two days, to promote social skills, assertiveness and empathy. Over 600,000 Long Island students

have participated in CAPS programs. Mrs. Toscano, and Idle Hour Elementary School students, thanked Mr. Sturchio for his visit, and the important lessons, and strategies he shared with them. This presentation is part of the Connetquot School District’s ‘United We Stand for a Drug and Bullying Free’ Community program.

After returning from the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference that was a held upstate in Monroe County, Eastern Suffolk BOCES (ESBOCES) students at Islip Career Center (ICC) decided that helping out the local community was the first thing on their agenda. Doing things for others is the basis of many occupations, so SkillsUSA members strive to be active in their schools and communities. Service is

one aspect of the SkillsUSA Pledge along with honor, respect, upholding ideals, diligence, self-control, and commitment. Business Education Teacher Jean Murray said, “There are many families at ICC who may need assistance this holiday as Long Island is recovering from Superstorm Sandy and the economy.” The SkillsUSA students asked for non-perishable donations. They had enough for six baskets

that were raffled off “lottery fashion” to their peers in the building. The remaining food is being donated to local pantries in the Islip area to help other Long Island families. SkillsUSA is a certifying organization of the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Advisors, student members, and registered alumni can earn recognition for community service activities and time spent as a volunteer.

Mr. Joseph Licato, Assistant Principal at Connetquot’s Ronkonkoma Middle School, welcomed the Camfel Production team to the school on October 21st. Licato and the school’s Guidance Department, brought the 6th and 7th grade students into the Alice Schaefer Auditorium to view an exciting video, and audio, presentation on three giant screens entitled Dream, Dare, Do! The program is designed to encourage students to “… clarify dreams, look clearly at obstacles and through hard work and determination, turn their dreams into a reality.”

Students learn positive methods for dealing with pressure, stress and fear, and come to understand the importance of setting short-term goals for their lives. Finally, students realize that it’s time to stop blaming others and take responsibility for their own future. Ronkonkoma MS students were exposed to various forms of bullying, and the strategies for avoiding and overcoming those who would tear people down, to make themselves feel bigger and better. Students were interviewed about their experiences, and many expressed their

determination to ‘Raise your hand if you’re sick of it (bullying)’! Mr. Licato, teachers and members of the Guidance Department were very pleased with the attention students gave to the presentation. Licato was impressed by the positive comments the students made as they left the auditorium, knowing they would involve one another in healthy discussions of the presentation in their follow-up classes. This presentation is part of the Connetquot School District’s ‘United We Stand for a Drug and Bullying Free’ Community program.

James Wilson Young Middle School seventhgrade students in Bob Donarummo’s Introduction to Technology class put their classroom skills to the test, using hand and electric tools to construct approximately 40 Nok hockey boards. The students worked to precisely cut each piece using a drill press, scroll and mitre saw. They used hand sanding,

a combination sander and filing techniques to ensure the pieces were free of rough edges before staining the wood a rich brown color. The completed boards were donated to the Lighthouse Mission, a facility in Bellport that feeds the hungry and helps the homeless, as well as the before-care and after-care programs of the district’s elementary schools and

The project, which was coordinated as part of the class’s “Mass Production of Goods” unit of study, helped to reinforce the lessons the students were learning about the production process – in particular about assembly lines and quality control. The students worked on the boards for approximately six weeks.

On Wednesday, December 4th Connetquot Teachers Association (CTA) President Anthony Felicio, Jr., met with 9th grade student Nicole Agrillo and teachers at OakdaleBohemia Middle School (OBMS). Ellen Perz and Rob Burger represented the OBMS teachers who coordinated a program to support Nicole Agrillo’s efforts to raise money for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). A check in the amount of $1,070 will be presented to the ASPCA on behalf of Nicole Grillo, and OBMS teachers. CTA President Anthony

Felicio, Jr., said “I would like to thank and congratulate the OBMS teachers for donating the money raised on ‘Dress Down Fridays’ to Nicole Agrillo and the ASPCA. Anger Management Workshops The Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) will host a full-day Anger Management Workshop on Saturday, December 21st, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the agency’s Mineola office. The workshop provides participants with practical steps to address their triggers and learn how to manage their frustration in stressful situations. This full-day workshop is in addition to the weekly sessions offered from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays at the Ronkonkoma office and Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Mineola office. Classroom exercises and instructional materials are used to help guide participants in learning a variety of skills including stress management, communication training, anger management, empathy, and conflict resolution, as well as

skills in developing better judgment and impulse control. Participants will receive an official certificate after completing the course. LICADD’s anger management services are approved by all courts, probation departments, and Child Protective Services. “The holidays are a difficult time for many people,” said LICADD Anger Management Program Coordinator Marcie Siciliano. “This workshop provides useful skills and resources to effectively manage the environmental stressors and anger triggers that surface during this season.” Participants are encouraged to continue their learning experience by enrolling in LICADD’s weekly Anger Management Series.
