$ HONORING U.S. VETERANS - On Nov. 6, Ronkonkoma Middle School continued its long-standing annual tradition of honoring U.S. military veterans from the surrounding community. This year’s program took place in the school’s parking lot, where 38 local veterans from all branches of the military lined up in their cars to face a giant movie screen displaying a video of RMS students and staff expressing their gratitude and performing patriotic songs. Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Pal-O-Mine offers programs to Verterans from Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and for Service men and women who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom,

Blood donors can now make appointments to visit donor centers, but donations are at just 65% of pre-pandemic levels well below what is needed by hospitals and patients in our area. “The entire foundation of the way people donate blood has changed. The convenience factor of walking down the hallway while at work, getting out

LONG ISLAND COMMUNITY HOSPITAL HEROES WEEK - Long Island Community Hospital recently celebrated Heroes Week recognizing all of their healthcare heroes who stood strong against COVID-19, for the protection of our community. Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce Celebrating Creativity: Creative Responses to Challenging Times a fine art exhibition featuring eighty-six works by fifty-one artists to be held through Dec. 19 at Mills Pond Gallery in St. James. Regular Gallery hours are Wed. - Fri., 10 am - 4pm; Sat. and Sun., 12 – 4 pm. The gallery is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and closed Nov. 25 – 29. Artists’ creative response to the coronavirus crisis brings us works that represent the experience of artists during the pandemic. We asked artists to show us what they have been creating during the pandemic and to share with us their thoughts and feelings about creating during these challenging times. Some works in the exhibit express the fear and anxiety while others find beauty in nature, or celebrate simple pleasures of everyday life. Some artists created to share memories of past joyful times… some created work specifically about the pandemic. Many shared that the creation of their art helped process their feelings. The common thread…joy in the simple act of creating.
