RAISING FUNDS FOR A FRIEND - The Connetquot High School boys and girls volleyball teams recently held a community car wash at the Lakeland Fire Department to raise money for teammate Liam Flattery and his family. The goal of this fundraiser was to lessen the financial burden on Flattery’s family while he bravely battles kidney disease. “Our student-athletes are absolutely amazing, caring and supportive,” said boys volleyball coach Jessica Perry. “Thanks to them, we raised $3,217 in just four hours.” Connetquot Central School District thanks all involved for rallying around this important cause. Army Soldier Desperate For Help To Rescue Cat From The Middle East Being deployed to the Middle East can be challenging for any U.S. soldier. But when you get difficult family news from back home, it can make getting through that period even more difficult. When Army Sergeant Ash received difficult family news, she took comfort in a rescued kitten that was near death. Now people wonder if she saved the kitten, or if the kitten actually saved her. Coming back home to the States, she is desperate to bring the cat, Rona, along with her. To help make it happen, she has turned to Guardians of Rescue, which has a reputation of helping soldiers. “We know all too well how important and lifesaving these pets are to our soldiers stationed in the Middle East,” explains Robert Misseri, president of Guardians of Rescue, an animal rescue organization. “When they come back home, they can’t bear to leave them there, and we agree that it’s not safe. Leaving the cat in the Middle East will end up being a death sentence for it. We will make every effort to bring Rona home to her, but we need the public’s support to help make it happen.” Sgt. Ash’s roommate worked for a veterinarian on base, where they had been given a rescued kitten that was only a week old. They didn’t know if it would make it, as it was near death, and they knew she needed around-the-clock care. That’s when she decided to hook up Sgt. Ash with the kitten, thinking that taking care of her would help distract her thoughts from all the family issues that were weighing on her. Sgt. Ash took the kitten and gave it all the care that it needed. Twice she thought she almost lost her, but the kitten held on and pushed through. Once she overcame being sick, she decided to name her Rona, which was after the coronavirus, because she felt that the virus is tough to fight, and

Rona had put up a great fight. She went on to spend all of her time with Rona, creating a loving bond and seeing her as a sign of hope and strength. “We saved each other and we belong together,” shares Sgt. Ash. “I pray that Guardians of Rescue will be able to bring Rona home to the States, where we can live out our lives together. I’m grateful for their help, as well as to everyone who donates to help make it possible.” Guardians of Rescue is no stranger to helping soldiers bring their pets back from deployment. They have helped many people bring back their dogs and cats, all through the help of the public. Bringing pets back is not an easy task, and it’s one that is also costly. Not only will Rona have to go through a medical check, but the organization will need to work with other organizations in the Middle East to help make it happen, and it will need to pay for the travel expenses. Guardians of Rescue is asking the public to make a donation of any amount possible to help bring Rona back to live with Sgt. Ash. To make a donation, visit the site here:

Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Pal-O-Mine offers programs to Verterans from Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and for Service men and women who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom,

Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom and for Active Duty Service Members. It’s not always easy to ask for help, but the benefits of doing so outweigh the fear. One military member who received help from this organizaiton mentioned the following, “For someone in the military like me, it’s hard to swallow my pride and ask for help. This was a safe environment to open up in. WALKATHON RESCHEDULED - The Andrew McMorris Memorial Walkathon will be held on Friday, November 27th after being cancelled due to the initial outbreak of the Corona Virus. The Andrew McMorris Memorial Walkathon will be held on Friday, November 27th after being cancelled due to the initial outbreak of the Corona Virus. The scenic trail walk will be through the beautiful and picturesque Baiting Hollow Scout Camp located at 1774 Sound Avenue, Calverton, NY and will include a tour of the beautiful McMorris Lodge being built at the Camp. The McMorris Family, along with the Suffolk County Council of the Boy Scouts of America are hosting this Walkathon to raise the funds needed to complete the McMorris Lodge, which is under construction at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp in memory of Andrew Mc Morris. Andrew is the Boy Scout, who was killed by a drunk driver, while hiking the Greenbelt Trail with his Boy Scout Troop 161 in

September 2018. Several other Scouts were severely injured as a result of this tragic crash. The lives of his family, friends, community and fellow scouters were forever changed by Andrew’s loss. All walkers will enjoy a complementary grab and go lunch at the conclusion of the Walkathon which is being donated by Applebee’s. North Fork Trolley will be providing complementary shuttle service for all participants to and from the parking area for the event. If you cannot participate in the walk, we welcome

Suffolk County Council of Boy Scouts of America serves over 14,000 youth in building leadership skills, highlighting American Patriotism, appreciation of the outdoors and enhancing outdoor skills, polishing moral character, and developing lifelong career aspirations and skills, through the work of over 4,000 adult volunteers. The Council has an extensive alumni network across Long Island.
