Agape Community Church of Mastic Beach will be holding their Annual Thanksgiving Community Feast on Saturday, November 23rd from 1PM-4PM. The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. E v e r y bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The remaining events will run on October 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. This homegrown haunt has been up and running for a few weeks so far this year and visitors have only good things to say! Below are some recent reviews:

NATIVE AMERICAN TERRITORY - As an extension to their classroom lessons, fourth grade students at Bayport-Blue Point School District’s Academy Street Elementary School were recently taken on an educational adventure into the rich historical backgrounds of Native American culture, courtesy of the Long Island-based “Journeys into American Indian Territory.” In the school’s gymnasium, students were introduced to authentic cultural elements of Native American tribes, such as hunting and gathering materials and traditional Iroquois drums. Don’t let home heating problems drive you nuts this winter.
Halloween has become a hugely popular time for fun and festivities, but with it comes the potential for a variety of fire hazards. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) encourages everyone to take these simple precautions to stay safe without sacrificing that fun. “Halloween brings an opportunity to wear fun costumes, decorate our homes, and eat too much candy,” says Lorraine Carli, NFPA’s vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “However, without proper safety precautions, we run the risk of turning good
times into the wrong kind of scary ones.” According to NFPA research, between 2012 and 2016, decorations were the item first ignited in an estimated average of 800 reported home structure fires per year, resulting in an average of two civilian deaths, 34 civilian injuries and $11 million in direct property damage. The decoration was too close to a heat source such as a candle or equipment in almost half of these fires. NFPA offers these tips to stay safe during the spooky season: Costumes: Avoid fabric that billows or trails behind

The Bayport-Blue Point School District will mark the 90th anniversary of the original dedication of Blue Point Elementary School this fall with a community celebration on Friday, Oct. 25. Visibility: Give children flashlights or glowsticks for lighting, these can
even be incorporated into the costume. If your child has a mask, ensure the eye holes are large enough for them to see clearly. Smoke Alarms: This is a great time to make sure your smoke alarms are functional and up-to-date. Exits: Exits are NOT an appropriate place for decorations. When decorating, ensure that nothing is blocking any escape routes.

Showcasing Their Business Skills Connetquot High School’s chapter of the National Business Honor Society has been recognized as a Gold Partner with Junior Achievement USA. The chapter received this honor due to the students’ involvement in the High School Heroes program, for which students attended four hours of training for Junior Achievement’s “More than Money” program. After being trained, the high school students taught Connetquot fifth graders
about financial literacy, entrepreneurship, goods and services and global markets. Through hands-on activities, the elementary students learned a practical approach to starting a business and making smart decisions about managing money. Additionally, by volunteering their time, the high school students learned to build employability skills such as leadership, public speaking, critical thinking and time management. According to Connetquot
Central School District Director of Business and Social Studies Margaret Ronai, the Gold Partner status will provide additional internship and job shadowing opportunities with Junior Achievement corporate sponsors for the students. Due to the successes of the National Business Honor Society, chapter advisers Gina Senft and Andrea Pizzimenti were invited to attend the Junior Achievement’s Annual Celebration.
Musicians Chosen Nine talented studentmusicians from Sachem High School North and East were selected to showcase their musical mastery during the 2019 New York State School Music Association’s AllState Festival at the Rochester Convention Center in Rochester, New York, from Dec. 5-8. From High School East, Natalie Hartmann has been selected as an alto to perform in the mixed chorus. Additionally,
Kayleigh Di Brico and Valeria Mei have been selected as alternates to play the violin. From High School North, Emily Ashby will perform as a soprano in the mixed chorus, Brett Lynott will perform as a tenor in the mixed chorus and Nistha Boghra will play the flute with the symphonic band. Selected as alternates, Mili Das will play the violin, Alyssa Koza will sing in the chorus as a soprano and Ryan Sojka
will play the saxophone. The arduous selection process for selecting an AllState musician includes teacher recommendations, audition scores at the NYSMMA solo evaluation festival during the prior spring and exemplary participation in other performing organizations. Approximately 7,000 students audition for the eight All-State performing groups and just under 900 are selected to participate annually.

VOLUNTEERS COME TOGETHER TO RENOVATE FACILITY-The United Construction Industry of America (UCIAM), pulled together contractors and affiliated members with the help of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) to renovate the Children’s Facility at VIBS Family violence and Rape Crisis Center in Islandia, where children who are victims of sexual abuse and who are witnesses to domestic violence receive counseling and support. The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau will sponsor two timely and meaningful events during Red Ribbon Week, held annually from October 23 through October 31. Red Ribbon Week was established by angered parents and youth from communities across the country in response to the 1985 murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena. They began wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America. In 1988, the National Family Sponsorship presented the first National Red Ribbon Celebration. Today, Red Ribbon Week serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities. Free Feral Cat And Pit Bull Spay/Neuter Program information, please call the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center at 631451-6950. Feral Cat Program Vouchers are given to residents who live in the Town of Brookhaven and have feral cats that need to be altered. Two vouchers are issued at a time to each resident. The vouchers are redeemed at the Integrative Veterinary Therapies
in Ridge. You must call the clinic to make an appointment once you have the vouchers. Cats must be brought into the clinic in a trap on the day of surgery. The cats will be ear tipped and rabies vaccinated at the time of surgery. Pit Bull / Pit Bull Mix Program The voucher automatically entitles you to one spay or neuter procedure
for your Pitbull or Pitbull mix. To ensure the health and wellbeing of your pet and their ability to undergo surgery safely, we request that all dogs over the age of five undergo a free blood work screening at least one week before the scheduled surgical procedure. All surgical candidates five years or older must come to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter on a walk-in basis during
