“Anything But Ordinary” SUPPORTING CANCER RESEARCH - Following the efforts of their peers, Connetquot High School girls volleyball program recently hosted a charity game to support the Dezy Strong Foundation. Matthew “Dezy” DiStefano, a Connetquot resident and Sachem High School North assistant volleyball coach, thanked the crowd for their participation and offered inspirational advice about never giving up in his fight against cancer. In addition to Mr. DiStefano and his team, the district would like to thank Connetquot High School girls volleyball coach Justin Hertz and district parents for organizing the event. The Bayport-Blue Point School District will mark the 90th anniversary of the original dedication of Blue Point Elementary School this fall with a community celebration on Friday, Oct. 25. During the school day, students, honored guests and local officials will officially commemorate the occasion with an inschool assembly program. All residents, alumni and friends from near and far are invited to join in on the celebration beginning at 3:45 p.m. The lateafternoon program will run until 5 p.m. and feature a museum walk down memory lane, filled with some never-beforeseen treasures from the school’s rich history. The Village of Patchogue is making plans to alleviate the increasingly full parking lots near its growing Main Street. As more businesses and visitors have come to visit Patchogue, parking has become increasingly hard to find. Deputy Presiding Officer Rob Calarco has worked with the Village of Patchogue to fix this growing problem and has advocated for the village to build a municipal parking garage that will create up to 348 parking spaces in its initial phase near Main Street. The Suffolk County Legislature has allocated $625,000 to help complete the project. “The transformation of downtown Patchogue has truly been one of the great success stories in Suffolk County over the last two decades,” said Deputy Presiding Officer Rob Calarco. “Success comes with its own set of challenges and parking has consistently been one of them. We have a crowded night life and a series of really well attended streetfairs that are pushing our parking capacity to the brink. It is important that

Taking Time To Reflect Fire Island School District’s Woodhull Elementary School students gathered together to pay their respect and honor the anniversary of 9/11 during a school ceremony on Patriot Day.
After observing a moment of silence, Superintendent of Schools Loretta Ferraro shared a book about the heroes from 9/11 and showcased uplifting artwork that children made for
first responders in the aftermath. As a concluding activity, the students decorated seashells with positive words to place at the Ocean Beach Firehouse’s 9/11 memorial.

The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event.
