When the Gentile family of Holbrook learned of Legislator Nick Caracappa’s School Supply Drive to benefit local children in the community, Ronnie Gentile contacted Caracappa’s office to say that her son Niko was looking for a Boy Scout community service project. She thought our supply drive was the perfect opportunity for Niko to earn the Star Scout Badge. In all, Niko Gentile of

Boy Scout Troop #124 in Holbrook collected over 600 items to contribute to Caracappa’s school supply drive. He recently stopped by the district office to drop these items off, and Legislator Caracappa presented Niko with a Certificate of Achievement to recognize his enormous accomplishment. “I was amazed when I saw the number of supplies Niko brought to my office,” stated Legislator

Caracappa. “This project was a true community effort. Niko reached out and collected each and every supply, which he then brought to my office to be distributed to the less fortunate. Each school year, it’s important to remember that every child deserves the tools needed to be successful in school; I am proud of Niko’s efforts in helping make that happen.”

Thanksgiving Food Distribution: The big, special family meal with that big, wonderful bird shouldn’t be a cause for extra ﬁnancial strain for families in need. Helping Hand Rescue Mission provides Thanksgiving food boxes and turkeys for families so they can cook up their special meal and have it together. In 2020, they served over a thousand families with Thanksgiving food boxes and frozen turkeys that were donated and funded by wonderful churches, businesses, organizations, and families. They believe an enormous part of gratitude is giving back, and they’re so thankful to be able to provide with their community, for their community!

This non-proﬁt was founded in 1965 by Reverend J.A. Gaines, his wife, Reverend Rose Marie Gaines, and her mother, Florence E. Meringola and 56 years later, their work continues under the direction of the founders’ daughter, Rev. Kimberly Gaines-Gambino, who functions as the President/Pastor of this organization. Sachem High School North Holds 9/11 Memorial Rededication Ceremony On Sept. 10, Sachem High School North hosted a 20th Anniversary 9/11 Memorial Rededication Ceremony to unveil the newly refurbished memorial which honors the lives lost during that tragic day in history and the sacrifices made by first responders. The touching ceremony began with an opening address from building principal Andrew Larson, followed by heartfelt words from local elected officials

First Responders Memorial

On September 10, the Village of Islandia held a special ceremony at the First Responders Memorial in honor of the memory of five local first responders who were killed during the September 11, 2001 attacks: Raymond M. Meisenheimer, Peter Brennan, John P. Napolitano. Glen K. Pettit and William J. Mahoney, Jr. This event commemorated the 20th anniversary of the

terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. Mayor Allan M. Dorman was joined by village elected officials, employees and residents and members of the Col Francis S. Midura Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #12144 in remembering those who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks. The mayor scheduled the ceremony for the 10th to give the residents the opportunity to attend other

September 11th memorial ceremonies throughout Long Island the following day. The First Responders Memorial was unveiled on June 2, 2018. It features five plaques, one for each of the five local residents who lost their lives that day. Mayor Dorman said this ceremony will continue to be held at the Memorial to remember those who perished that day.
