Islip Town Clerk Olga Murray recently joined Perry Finkelstein of ProVideo Productions as part of the ongoing The Manors of Long Island project, a documentary that explores the people and history behind some of Long Island’s most treasured historical sites. The production team came to Islip to view documents associated with Sagtikos

Manor and the original grants signed by Dutch and British officials in the 17th and 18th centuries. “Long Island’s colonial history remains relatively unknown, but hopefully documentary films like this can inspire residents to explore the wealth of history and culture to be found in our Town,” said Town Clerk Olga Murray. According to the Suffolk

County Archeological Association, Islip Town had one of the most unique settlement patterns of any Township on Long Island, and was composed of five patents/manors granted by the Dutch New Netherland government and later the British Royal Governors. In 1720 these five manors coalesced into the general geographic area we call “Islip” today.

Kindergarten Playdate Connetquot Central School District’s Helen B. Duffield, Edith L. Slocum, Sycamore Avenue, and Cherokee Street elementary schools recently welcomed new kindergarten students to participate in “Kindergarten Playdates.”

Each school’s principal hosted the playdates to help students in the graduating class of 2029 and their parents acquaint themselves with the school, meet the staff, make new friends, work on crafts and share a snack outside of normal school hours.

The event helped ease anxieties surrounding the start of the school year, and principals, teachers, staff and Parent Teacher Association (PTA) members were on hand to introduce themselves and answer questions.

Duffield Elementary School make friends and play on the school’s teeter-totter as part of the school’s Kindergarten Playdate. Alone in a Bowl: My Saga By: Jamie Lynn Ryan It’s been days, and still no sign of my human. No light on in the kitchen. No food pellet delivery at dinnertime. No – dare I say it – bath time. Nothing. Where did she go? Alone in my bowl, I swim my solitary laps, counting down the hours, days, weeks… it must be weeks by now. Just me and my plant (which, by the way, is starting to look pretty tasty at this point). I should’ve known something was up when I found a few extra ﬂakes in my bowl right after the last human sighting. And the suitcase… what was that for? Come to think of it, I heard something about “vacation,” whatever that

is, and then this giant bettashaped vitamin was placed in my bowl with promises of food coming shortly. When? It’s already been at least a month. Time tends to fast forward when you live in a bowl. But, wait… here it is – a ﬂake. And another. Where did they come from? No human in sight, but this little vitamin seems to be melting into food! Oh thank goodness! She didn’t forget about me after all. I wonder if she’ll ever be back? {826 Days Later…} I hear a noise! The front door… the light… MY HUMAN HAS RETURNED! Oh boy, oh boy! If I had longer fins, I’d give her the biggest hug ever! Oh, and here comes the good food,

my gourmet pellets, with a few extra thrown in – how sweet. She didn’t abandon me after all. But where did she go? I see the suitcase… but no presents? No souvenirs for Buddy? And what’s this about “bath time” now? She’s been home five minutes and already this nonsense about cleaning out the remnants of the vitamin from my bowl. Good grief. There had better be a good explanation for all this. I expect a special trip to the pet store this weekend to pick out a new toy… and extra food… and at least a week’s notice the next time one of these “vacation” things takes place. Better yet, I expect to be invited along.

Bayport-Blue Point High School student-musician Cassandra Nielsen achieved a district milestone this September, as she is the first BBP student accepted into the NAfME All-Nation Symphonic Band. Cassandra is one of

seventeen band students in New York State to be awarded this honor. She received a NYSSMA score of 100 on her Level VI All-State clarinet solo the past two years. In addition, Cassandra was the principal clarinetist for the

Italian-American of the Year

All-Nation Ensemble 2014-2015 NYSSMA AllState Wind Ensemble. Cassandra will now perform with many of the highest achieving music students across the nation during the festival in Nashville, Tennessee from October 25th-28th.

As nymphs, hatched from eggs, tiny wingless creatures wiggle forth. Thriving on worms, mosquito larvae and tadpoles. Hiding in weeds or mud, they are aquatic, Living in fresh water, ponds and streams.
