and congratulated her teammates and proud family members on Emma’s athletic accomplishment. The NWBA is one of the largest and longeststanding disabled sports organizations worldwide. Founded in 1949, the NWBA’s goal has been to provide individuals with the opportunity to play and learn wheelchair basketball. The organization is responsible for growing and developing wheelchair basketball in the United States and the selection and training of the Paralympic and ParaPanAm Games teams, as well as major international competitions. The U.S.

Olympic Committee’s Paralympic Division and the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation recognize the NWBA as the governing body for the United States. The NWBA resides in 42 states and boasts 3,000 members and more than 225 teams. Emma does not limit her athletic pursuits to wheelchair basketball. She also participates in sled ice hockey, wheelchair tennis and wheelchair racing. The Connetquot Central School District congratulates Emma on this outstanding athletic achievement.

Connetquot High School’s senior parking lot became a bright-colored canvas on Aug. 18 as seniors personalized their parking spaces during the school’s inaugural Senior Paint Day. Carrying paint, rollers, brushes, stencils and design sheets, students mapped out and created their designs with the help of family and friends. Student Government President Zachary Palazzotto said Senior Paint Day’s goal was “to showcase class spirit, creativity and positivity” during the start of the 2021-2022 school year.

For the price of $30, legally licensed participants purchased and chose a parking spot to use for the school year. They submitted their designs for approval prior to the event and before purchasing discounted supplies at Long Island Hardware in Bohemia. Zachary noted there will be a second Senior Paint Day in the fall for seniors who have not acquired their license by the start of the semester. Senior Savannah Catera painted her rendition of a bright sunset because, she said, “it’s one of my favorite things.” Isabelle

Andres rendered a Captain America Shield with the help of Sophia Aebisher because she likes adventurous characters. Julianna Cicero (Class of 2020) assisted senior Joseph Moulton with painting “Sponge Bob’s” Bold and Brash because, Sophia explained, “he has an amazing sense of humor.” Stencils of a spaceship and a cow were strategically placed in the design of Evan Mistler’s parking space. When asked about his choice of theme, a cow being lifted by a spaceship, he answered, “why not?”

New School Year Kicks Off In South Country Students across the South Country Central School District quickly became acquainted with their new teachers, routines and programs as they kicked off the 2021-22 school year on Sept. 1. Elementary students began the school year as they stepped off their buses

to be greeted by smiling teachers. They entered their colorful classrooms and started their day by getting to know their new teachers and classmates. Secondary students also met their teachers and made a smooth transition back as they adjusted to their new classrooms and

schedules. “We are looking forward to a year filled with outstanding academic and extracurricular opportunities for our students,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Giani.

Hinrichs Recognized As 2020-2021 Employee Of The Year During Bayport-Blue Point School District’s annual Superintendent’s Conference Day, held on Aug. 30, the late Christine Hinrichs posthumously received the 20202021 Employee of the Year Award. This new annual award honors an employee who exemplifies professionalism and dedication to the district and sets standards for successors. Craig Hinrichs were on hand to receive the award in her stead. Ms. Hinrichs began her career as an office assistant at Academy Street Elementary School in November 2011 to later become the school’s lead secretary. Those who knew and worked with Christine described her as a consummate professional, a tremendous asset to the school and “a beautiful presence with an infectious personality.” Principal Kerry Vann

described Ms. Hinrichs as a person who brought joy, laughter and life to students, faculty and staff every day. “She has been sorely missed by all but certainly will not be forgotten,” Ms. Vann said. “As the first Bayport-Blue Point School District recipient of the Employee of the Year award, Christine’s legacy has started a tradition of the embodiment of Phantom Pride that others should be proud to follow.”

The team met and practiced over the summer, preparing for the competition, which took place via ZOOM beginning Saturday, August 14. During the first round, the team finished in first place with a score of 56/60. During the finals, which took place on Monday evening, August 16, the

team finished with a score of 21/25 against Harborfields, Hauppauge, and Cutchogue-New Suffolk libraries. In addition to offering challenging and engaging programs for teens, Teen Coordinator, Angela Breslin, coached and encouraged the team to three straight firstplace finishes in 2018, 2019, and 2021. We thank The Masketeers for their commitment and dedication and for being a vital part of our library and community. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and accomplishments.

Free Transportation Through ‘Ride United’ To And From Covid-19 Vaccine Appointments United Way of Long Island recently launched ‘Ride United’ to help local residents access transportation to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the rideshare service Lyft. The program is part of United Way Worldwide’s Ride United Vaccine Access Campaign, which addresses unmet transportation needs for individuals and families. Long Island residents participating in ‘Ride United’ receive 2 free Lyft rides (up to $25 each way) to and from vaccination appointments located in Nassau or Suffolk Counties. Riders must download the Lyft app on a supported device and have an

active Lyft account. “United Way of Long Island is committed to keeping our communities safe and healthy. Ride United removes barriers of transportation inequity, ensuring that any Long Islander seeking to get vaccinated can get to and from their appointment without cost,” said Theresa A. Point School District’s school buildings as faculty and staff attended the annual Superintendent’s Conference Day, held on Aug. 30. The program was partially virtual as faculty gathered at their respective schools and Superintendent of Schools Timothy Hearney teleconferenced his message and goals for the 2021-2022 school year. “BBP is going Old School, as in 2018-19 style, with masks,” Mr. Hearney

Connetquot High School varsity football fans came out in droves to witness the first challenge of the 2021 football season on September 3rd. First year head coach Michael Konsevich and his staff welcomed division I Lindenhurst High School for a scrimmage on the practice field while work was being completed on the school’s football field and running track. A larger, and more experienced Lindenhurst team seemed to be surprised by Connetquot’s energy and aggressiveness early in the scrimmage. Both teams played hard in this first matchup, and both coaches took the time to play and evaluate all their players as they prepared for the first official game of the season. Connetquot graduated 20 seniors from last year’s team, but will work with returning veterans and an impressive number of sophomore up from last year’s successful JV team. The veterans will be led by seniors Matt Gomez and Nick Lamantia who were recently named to NEWSDAY’S top 100 Long Island football student-athletes. The T-birds first home game v North Babylon on September 17. Good luck to Coach K and his Connetquot ‘Thunderbirds’!

The Argyle Theatre (Mark and Dylan Perlman, Managing Partners; Evan Pappas, Artistic Director), presents the hit Broadway musical Cabaret with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff, based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood. Performances begin Friday, September 17th for a limited engagement through Sunday afternoon, October 24th at The Argyle Theatre (34 West Main Street, Babylon, Long Island). Cabaret is presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals. Directed by Evan Pappas, with choreography by Sara Brians and music direction by Jonathan Brenner, the cast will feature Dana Costello as Sally Bowles, Jon Peterson as The Emcee, and Andy Tighe as Cliff Bradshaw, with Fred Frabotta as Herr Schultz, Brian Owen as Ernst Ludwig, Suzanne Grodner as Fräulein Schneider, and Lilly Tobin as Fräulein Kost, as well as Alexis Semevolos and Conor Stepnowski. Mark and Dylan Perlman, Argyle Managing Partners, shared “We are thrilled to reopen The Argyle’s theatrical season and close out The Argyle’s second season with the multiple Tony award winning classic Cabaret.” They went on to say, “Come join us at the Kit Kat Club in Berlin in 1931 where patrons search for escape while the seeds of intolerance are fomenting. Be captivated in a time and place where nothing is certain except for one’s dreams.” In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920’s draws to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, Cabaret explores the dark, heady, and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff Bradsaw, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken by English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish. First presented in 1966, the ground-breaking musical Cabaret won an impressive 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, which then culminated into a smashing Oscar Winning film in 1972 winning 8 Oscars. This classic Kander and Ebb score is entertaining, thought- provoking and Broadway musical theatre at its best. “Cabaret still remains one of the greatest musicals,” exclaimed director Evan Pappas. “The craftsmanship and the storytelling by Kander, Ebb, and Masteroff is masterful!” He ended with, “We have just the cast and creative team to present it.” Cabaret will play the following performance schedule: Thursday through Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Saturday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. with Special Added Performances on Wednesday evening, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday October 21, at 2:00 pm.
