Why Is Tire Rotation So Important?
Wi-Fi capabilities. This means you will not need an extra device to access the internet. However, you will probably need to sign up for an additional data plan through whatever service the car manufacturer uses to offer Wi-Fi capability or through your mobile phone carrier. AllConnect. com says Wi-Fi plans for vehicles start as low as $10 per month and may include unlimited data. Furthermore, car Wi-Fi is often different from a mobile hotspot because it is likely to offer better connection and more security while preserving mobile
data and phone battery life. Cars that are not equipped with Wi-Fi can have it as an add-on with an installed wireless vehicle router. These routers range from $200 to $600 and are professionally installed. Having Wi-Fi in a vehicle is handy when taking road trips or when work requires internet connectivity. Dedicated vehicle internet can help save on mobile phone data plans and battery life. Plus, people increasingly staying at home can rely on a vehicle’s Wi-Fi system as a back-up should their home internet go down.
The Benefits Of Wearing Seat Belts The importance of wearing seat belts in vehicles has resonated with drivers and passengers across the globe. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the national seat belt use rate in passenger vehicles in 2019 was 90.7 percent. And despite their simplicity, particularly when compared to
the various other technologies available in modern vehicles, seat belts remain an incredibly effective device against injury and even death, though only when drivers and their passengers remember to engage them. For example, the NHTSA notes that seat belts saved an estimated 14,955 lives in 2017 alone. Unfortunately,
the NHTSA also reports that 47 percent of the 37,133 people killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2017 were not wearing seat belts. Studies have indicated that front seat riders in cars who wear their seat belts can reduce their risk of fatal injury by 45 percent, while front seat riders in trucks can reduce their risk for fatal injury by 60 percent.
Vehicle owners need to keep maintenance on the mind to ensure their cars and trucks are operating at peak capacity. Various components should be checked and serviced at key intervals. Oil changes and fluid topoffs are part of routine maintenance, but it can be easy to forget about other important parts of the vehicle, including tires. Rotating tires is vital to their upkeep. Bridgestone Tires advises that tire rotation involves routinely repositioning a vehicle’s tires in specific patterns from front to back and side to side. According to Big O Tires, the front tires tend to wear on the outside edges because the tire leans over when a driver turns a corner. The rear tires just follow the front ones, so they usually wear more evenly. By leaving tires in place, the outside edges on the front tires will wear
down much faster than the rest and those tires will need to be replaced sooner. Rotation may be required by tire warranties. Rotation also keeps the tires working properly. Experts generally advise tire rotation every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, even if they do not show any signs of wear. It is challenging to determine if weather treads are uneven or how much wear has been sustained just by looking at them. Rotating tires can prolong the life of tires and decrease how frequently they need to be replaced. Rotating tires keeps the tread depth uniform and helps maintain traction and consistent handling across all four tires. Bridgestone says the tire rotation pattern that is best for a particular vehicle depends on the type of tire being used. Patterns are recommended by the standardizing body of the tire industry, called The Tire and Rim Association,
Inc. Individuals can consult with professional mechanics about the proper way to rotate tires. Many tire manufacturers or automotive stores that have sold customers tires also will do tire rotations — some free of charge. In addition to proper traction, minimizing uneven tire treads causes the vehicle to be more balanced, advises Wrench, a mobile auto repair and maintenance company. This enables the driver to have more control even when roads are slippery. Many auto service centers will then align and balance tires after they have been rotated. At this time the mechanic will likely check brakes as well, since it is easy to see and reach them when the tires are off. Tire rotation is an important component of vehicle maintenance. Check with a qualified automotive professional to see if it’s time to have your vehicle’s tires rotated.

Wi-Fi-enabled vehicles are becoming hot commodities for drivers. There are various ways to access the internet in a car. Drivers can buy an add-on device. Even mobile gadgets that aren’t specifically designed for vehicle applications can be easily connected. The devices plug into the 12-volt accessory outlet. OBD II devices connect to a car’s OBD II port. This is most often located below the steering wheel. Mechanics use this port to run digital vehicle diagnostics. However, it also can be used to create a Wi-Fi hot spot with an OBD device. Another option is to use a smartphone to create a mobile hotspot through a cellular data plan. Anyone in the car can then tether their phones or other devices to the smartphone to access the internet. Many vehicles are now equipped with their own

Story by Linda Mittiga Coach Nicole MendezChicas reported that the Sayville/Bayport Blue Point Girls Swimming & Diving Team had a very exciting meet against West Babylon on Friday, April 9th. “It was our last dual meet, the day we recognize and say good-bye to our seniors. However, the seniors were not the only ones who were highlighted. All of the girls swam and dove well, many beating their best times and winning points for the team. Kathryn Brady made the NYS Championship
qualifying time in the 200 IM; Jordan Carpentieri and Emma Haas made the qualifying time in the 100 Butterfly. “However, the biggest accomplishment was made by Sayville Junior Jillian Rastello, who not only beat her best score in diving, she broke the school record with 303.6 points. That score places her first in Long Island and 4th in NYS.” Jillian’s mom, Kerri, attributes her daughter’s remarkable diving abilities to her ten years as a competitive gymnast. “…
she tried diving in the spring of seventh grade. The varsity coach came to see her and asked her to dive with varsity in the fall of eighth grade and that’s where she started diving and ended gymnastics.” Regarding the team’s recent accomplishments, Coach Mendez expressed it best, “Great job girls! Top Students Honored During Evening Of Excellence Bellport High School celebrated the 72 top academic students of the Class of 2021 during the fourth annual Evening of Excellence, portions of which were held virtually and livestreamed, on March 23. This tradition celebrates the most inspiring and influential seniors who completed their seventh high school semester with a weighted cumulative grade point average of 93% or higher. After a presentation of colors by the Cadet Core, the Bellport High School String Quartet, under the baton of Victoria Hartman, performed
the national anthem. During a livestreamed portion of the program, Principal Timothy Hogan thanked teachers Aimee Iuliucci and Amy Krawczyk who produced the video and livestream. He also welcomed viewers and thanked the faculty members chosen by the students as those educators who had a significant impact on their educational journey and who possess energy, work ethic, talents and enthusiasm brought to school each day. Auto insurance is a must-have for drivers. While it might seem hard to believe, as of 2019 there are still some places in the United States where auto insurance is not mandatory. Auto insurance is mandatory in Canada, though each province has its own requirements in terms of the minimum amount of coverage allowable by law. Many people, even those in places where auto insurance is not mandatory, recognize the importance of being insured before they get behind the wheel. However, that doesn’t mean those same drivers would not like to cut the cost of their auto insurance policies. A 2019 analysis from the online financial resource NerdWallet found that the average cost of car insurance in the United States is $1,621 per year. Average insurance costs vary significantly in Canada, where data from the General Insurance Statistical Agency found that, in 2019, the average annual insurance premium in British Columbia exceeded $1,800, while drivers in Quebec paid slightly more than $700 annually. No matter where drivers live, chances

because it is hard to find,” and as the “quality of being truly the best at something.” He continued by saying, “This evening, excellence is you.” Mr. Hogan then announced the names of the top 10 students from the Class of 2021 and gave a description of their accomplishments. The top 10 students include, in order, Anthony Notartomaso (valedictorian), Victoria Monte (salutatorian), Charlotte Kellogg (essayist), Jack Armann, Kanya Shah, Madison Peters, Lindsey Belmonte, Madison Baumann, Cailey Ziegler and Anna Mezzatesta. Mr. Hogan also announced in a pre-recorded message, the names of the honored teachers. Connetquot Central School District Sports Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team Falls To Centereach Connetquot’s boys’ varsity soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Centereach High School on March 24th. Down 3-0 in the first half, the T-birds played even with Centereach in the second period, for the final
score. Aaron Chetti scored a goal for Connetquot and goalie Tyler Moore recorded 15 saves. The T-birds’ record stands at 2-4 with coach John Zambriski confident of continued improvement.

Boys’ Soccer Team Falls To Brentwood The Connetquot’s boys’ varsity soccer team played its first home game of the season against a championshipcaliber Brentwood HS team and came up short by a score of 7-0. While the final
score was disappointing, the Connetquot coaches were pleased with the team’s effort, and potential. Brentwood is undefeated in Suffolk league play, while the t-birds stand at 0-1.
Another bright spot for Connetquot was the play of team goalie Tyler Moore who recorded nine saves for the home team.

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others financially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Contractors For Kids is local to the core. They know our Island well and they love to help locals. Their office is located in Holbrook and they have no plans of going anywhere. The
pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed afloat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Recently, CFK helped a 12 year old boy who suffered from a traumatic brain injury. He is now blind and he has a history of Wilm’s tumor and craniotomy, among many other complications. This little boy was put into the foster system and was adopted by the nurse that fostered him. CFK was able to provide them with a special chair to hold him, car payments and rent! Additionally, they assisted a 6 year old girl with Fibromatosis soft tissue sarcoma who lives in Holbrook. Due to intensive Chemo treatments, her mom had to stay home with her. CFK helped with several month’s mortgage payments, water and electric bills, as well as car payments to help keep this family afloat during difficult times! So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Want to help make a difference? You can do so by learning their mission, spreading awareness, referring families to CFK, distributing handouts/electronic materials and representing CFK at health fairs, open enrollment or employee meetings. COVID-19 Emotional Support Helpline The Association for Mental Health and Wellness (MHAW) – Suffolk County’s largest not-for-profit provider of programs, services, and advocacy for people facing mental health challenges – is offering an Emotional Support Helpline staffed by trained crisis counselors who help callers talk through their emotions and find resources to help them cope with challenges associated with COVID-19. MHAW is serving as a Suffolk County partner agency in the helpline initiative hosted by NY Project Hope, a program of the New York State Office of Mental Health. The Emotional Support Helpline is 631-4717242 ext. 1800. Trained crisis counselors are available Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 7:00 pm. All helpline conversations are free, confidential, and anonymous. “The Emotional Support Helpline will connect you with someone who has been trained to hear what you are saying and give you the kind of support that works best for you during the pandemic,” said Tara Fredericks, MHAW’s
Director of Special Projects who is also overseeing Project Hope for MHAW. “They can offer coping strategies, supportive resources, or simply a chance to talk.” “As the leading mental health agency in Suffolk County, we’re proud that MHAW is well-positioned to play a leadership role in this timely initiative,” said Colleen Merlo, CEO of MHAW. “People don’t need to grapple with these stresses on their own. PAJAMA-CLAD PRIVATE EYES - On March 26, pajama-clad students at Sycamore Avenue Elementary School embarked on a literary-themed scavenger hunt throughout the building. Youth and Family Services Coordinator Laura Michelsen, in conjunction with the school’s dedicated Dignity for All Students Act committee, hid cut-outs of characters from popular children’s books from “Pete The Cat” to “The Tale of Despereaux” for the students to find. UV rays break down the molecules in the paint and make it appear dull. Leaving a vehicle exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time increases the risk of damage to its interior and exterior. It’s important that car and truck owners recognize this so they can mitigate the potential problems sun and heat may cause.
