Elementary and middle schools in the Connetquot Central School District recently participated in the district’s annual “Dignity for All Students Act Week,” which promotes acceptance and unity in all aspects. Edith L. Slocum Elementary School facilitated a “kindness chain reaction” project where each class was assigned another class for which to complete an act of kindness. Fourth and fifth graders at the school also embarked on a scavenger hunt, using educational posters hung around the building to answer questions about mental health and bullying. DASA week at Cherokee Street Elementary School featured daily dress-up themes, including superhero day because “superheroes take a stand against bullying” and jersey day because “everyone counts.” At John Pearl Elementary School, students enjoyed a virtual assembly hosted

Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child. They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders. CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done. Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids. The Board of Directors, members, supporters and volunteers of CFK are all “Contractors For Kids.” They are all helping others and building futures for children and their families in need. Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help. So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have filled out their Application For Assistance, they will get in touch with you to see how they can be of help! Contractors For Kids is local to the core. They know our Island well and they love to help locals. Their office is

located in Holbrook and they have no plans of going anywhere. The pandemic took its toll on CFK, as it did on many, but they stayed aﬂoat and are thankful for the opportunity to continue to make a difference. Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others ﬁnancially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses. Donations are so important to CFK, especially being that they receive no grant money. They would like to thank all thsoe who attended their Scavenger Hunt fundraising event on April 10th. Their next fundraising event will be a golf outing on June 14th, stay tuned for more information! Nutritional Aide Amber Ramroop was already well known and respected by both patients and staff at Long Island Community Hospital for her bright and cheery attitude, and for her “Can-Do” attitude by her supervisors and peers. On January 16th, she also added the distinction of Hero to her many accolades.

While delivering a lunch tray to a patient, Amber noticed a sudden change in the patient’s breathing and responsiveness. She immediately notified the nursing staff which triggered an alert of the hospital’s rapid response team, resulting in the successful resuscitation of the patient.
