Connetquot Girls Basketball Falls To Sachem North

The Connetquot HS girls’ basketball team opened its season at home against crosstown rival Sachem North HS on February 10th. While the girls played their hearts out against a talented, and experienced rival, they were outgunned 63-31.

Connetquot was led by Olivia Brown with 10 points, followed closely by Emily Mohr and Sevana Smith with 7 and 5 points respectively. Connetquot scored on five 3-point goals, with Brown leading the way with two. Sachem’s Julia Turano was

top scorer for the visitors with 22 points, and added 14 rebounds. First year head coach Sarah Ecke and assistant coach Sal Piscitelli were pleased with their young players’ effort, and look forward to improved results as the team matures.

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Named a Finalist in the 9th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. (www.pal-o-mine.org, Islandia, NY), a private, not for profit organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, was named a finalist in the 9th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards. The Long Island Imagine Awards was created to offer formal acknowledgement to some of Long Island’s most effective and innovative nonprofit organizations. The 9th Annual Long Island Imagine Awards has made the decision to convert the live awards gala to a virtual event that will take place on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 5:00-7:30pm. After the success of the 2020 virtual event due to Covid-19, the volunteer planning committee agreed that rather than continue to postpone, it is best to produce another exciting virtual event and get the prize money in the hands of the winning nonprofits as soon as possible. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. This organization has continued to do their good work throughout this pandemic. T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. Sometimes a wish fulfills an immediate need, and sometimes it is a last wish or lifetime dream. Representatives Lee Zeldin (R, NY-01), Lauren Underwood (D, IL-14), Julia Brownley (D, CA-26), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R, PA01) introduced bipartisan legislation to eliminate cost barriers to COVID-19 vaccinations for veterans. The No Coronavirus Copays for Veterans Act ensures that veterans who receive health care from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) are not liable for out-ofpocket costs for qualifying coronavirus preventive services, like COVID-19 vaccines. Companion legislation, led in the Senate by Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), will be introduced in the coming weeks. In March 2020, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which waived copays for qualifying items, services, or immunizations intended to prevent or mitigate coronavirus for Medicare beneficiaries and privately insured individuals. However, the CARES Act did not extend these protections to veterans receiving VHA care. The No Coronavirus Copays for Veterans Act extends these protections to those receiving VHA care and ensures they are equally protected. “Our nation’s brave servicemembers have earned nothing but the
