The Charity of the Month for May is: Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) www.BACAworld.org
Bikers Against Child Abuse, Inc. (B.A.C.A.) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that exists to provide aid, comfort, safety and support for children that have been sexually, physically and emotionally abused. They are dedicated to the principle that ‘one of the basic rights of childhood is to be safe and protected’. When a child’s family or environment has failed them, B.A.C.A. stands ready to help. This organization started as an idea to help one wounded child. This child was eight years old at the time and was so frightened of his perpetrators that he would not leave his residence. Their founder, having had kind and loving experiences with bikers in his youth, was moved to include this boy in his biker circle. Within weeks this boy was seen all over town playing with other children and riding his bike. The idea to rally the biker community in defense and in support of children was actualized in 1995, when the first ride was held to visit wounded children and bring them into the biker family. That first ride had twenty seven bikes present. From there it was only a matter of time before the word spread quickly about what was happening in Utah. Shortly after forming the first chapter in Utah, another chapter was formed in that state, then Oklahoma, Missouri and Texas. The rest is part of the B.A.C.A. history. One of the greatest and most unique assets of B.A.C.A. for children is their “biker family attitude”. Bikers are a tightly knit group! The brotherhood and family values are not just a
way to live, but a way of life. One for all and all for one is not just a quote but it is their reality. After children have been introduced into the B.A.C.A. family they are not helpless or powerless anymore. If you want to meet a B.A.C.A. representative and find out additional information on their organization you can attend one of the following upcoming events, where B.A.C.A. will have a tent set up with brochures and more: Alive After Five: Thursday, June 27, 2019 in Patchogue. The Great South Bay Music Festival: Saturday, July 20, 2019 and Sunday, July 21, 2019 in Patchogue. If you are interested in becoming a B.A.C.A. member you must meet certain requirements. Some requirements are that you have a desire to help abused children, you have regular access to a motorcycle, you are 18 years or older, you can pass an NCIC fingerprint check and you can attend monthly meetings and Chapter events (their meetings are held the second Sunday of every month at the American Legion Hall in Bohemia at 9:00AM unless it’s a holiday). You can also donate to this organization at anytime on their website. Another Organization You Can Get Involved With: Agape Community Church Mastic, NY Agape Community Church is a non-profit organization based in Mastic. They are focused on the Long Island community and will be holding their annual Back To School Event on Saturday, August 17 from 12-5PM, where they will be giving away free school supplies and they will serve refreshments. They are already taking donations for this event and are attempting to raise additional funds and supplies this year. They understand that a lot of children may begin a new school year this upcoming fall without all the needed supplies. Agape Community Church believes community support is crucial to helping these children. Donations of any size are welcome. After two years of working as an accountant, he shifted to Oppenheimer and Co., researching financial service companies that specialized in mortgages. It was there that his analysis of flawed subprime mortgages led to the events depicted in the book and film. career advice, saying, “If you remember anything I said today, it’s this: Choose a profession that you love. One of the greatest things in life is to wake up and want to go to work. So, whatever you want to do, do that. Secondly, take public speaking classes and get over the fear of speaking. It’s very important to communicate and understand how to communicate. Three, if you want to be in my profession and get on Wall Street, you’re going to have to learn how to program and code, and if you want to analyze companies, learn how to use Excel. If you want to do what I do, model out a company. Look at their financial statements in the past and project forward. Invest in them, see how it feels to make money, and more importantly, see what it’s like to lose money.”

Islip High School’s Business Academy students were recently treated to a visit from Vincent Daniel, the real-life stock analyst portrayed in the 2015 film “The Big Short” and the 2010 Michael Lewis book it was based on, “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine.” Both stories showed how Daniel predicted the housing market crash of 2007. Daniel began by discussing his college accounting studies at Binghamton University, his, career trajectory and possible job pathways. “The goal in college for me was to come out and get a job, and I wanted to be in business, so accounting was best way at the time,” he said. “My goal was to get my CPA. But I hated what I did. I loved what accounting taught me, but I always wanted to get to Wall Street.”
Local fine artist Kevin McEvoy recently spoke to Islip Middle School students in the EXCEL program as part of the ongoing “Inventing Self” series of inspirational guest lectures. After studying at the Charles Cecil Studios painting school in Florence, Italy, McEvoy began a decade-long career teaching classical drawing and painting. The Islip
resident serves as director of the Atelier at Flowerfield classical art studio and exhibition space in Saint James. His work has been exhibited widely in New York City and Long Island. During the EXCEL visit, McEvoy demonstrated live portrait painting for the students and discussed the use of an iPad as a tool to capture inspiration. For McEvoy, art is about personal growth as well as
community values. “I think passion is the thing you can’t not do,” he said. “Each has to find their own. I support things for society to be healthy, for each and every person to find their passion, and then to water and feed it, to cause sun to shine on it. We all as a community can help invest in each other’s lives and cause a hospitable environment to grow.”

Legislator Steven J. Flotteron and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Long Island Maritime Museum Mike Egan honored Anthony Quintal, Jr. at the Fourteenth Annual Trustees’ Recognition Dinner at the Bourne Mansion in Oakdale. This year’s honoree started his first business, Quintal Landscape and Designs in 1983 while still in high school. More than 35 years later, he is President of The Quintal Group, one of the largest landscape design firms on Long Island. He continues to be a generous philanthropist and contributor supporting the Long Island Maritime Museum as well as the Islip, Bay Shore, Brentwood, East Islip, Oakdale, Deer Park and upstate Utica Chambers of Commerce, where he has other business interests and land holding companies.
In addition, he is a supporter of Seatuck, TOI Breast Cancer Coalition, Urban Forestry Council, Cornell Cooperative Extension, annual Earth Day Projects all over LI, The Boy Scouts of America,

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc.
