Callahans Beach Now Open

Callahan’s Beach Reconstruction Work Completed. Resident Access Is Now Open Callahan’s Beach is now open to Smithtown residents. Major infrastructure repairs were necessary after the seawall collapsed as a result of Tropical Depression Ida and a second storm which caused further damage shortly after. All new drainage infrastructure was installed, along with the total reconstruction of the seawall. The stairs have been rebuilt, with platforms in between stories. The bluff had to be completely rehabilitated and features rows of plantings. All new walkways, curbing, and

asphalt have also been completely paved. “Callahans is absolutely stunning. People have been walking the beach and commenting all day about how gorgeous of a job the Town did. I’d like to personally thank the Parks Department, Jim Longworth, Pioneer Asphalt, Hayduk Engineering, and our Department of Environment and Waterways, who worked with DEC to get the permit process moving. This was a massive undertaking. One that was met with obstacles

like supply chain issues, and red tape. However, the incredible amount of teamwork involved solidified a beautiful end result… one that Smithtown Residents will enjoy for years to come.” - Supervisor Ed Wehrheim The facility will remain open to the public, while the Parks Department will begin constructing a new playground and pickle ball courts at Callahan’s Beach. Construction work on the playground and pickleball areas will be contained so that public access will not be interrupted.

Recently, Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta and Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Joshua Ayres at the Kings Park High School, where Joshua is a senior. Through his scouting activities, leadership skills, acquiring merit badges, and completing his community service project, Joshua received the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, he created and supervised the building of an outdoor fitness gym with four stations on the field of the Kings Park High School. Joshua donated the remaining $900 that he raised for the project to the track team. At the Eagle Scout Court of Honor, Legislator Trotta presented Joshua with a proclamation and Assemblyman Fitzpatrick provided him with a certificate and a letter of commendation for his attainment of the rank of Eagle Scout. “This is a wonderful occasion for Joshua, his family and friends and the other scouts. Sawmill Veterans Day Salute Mrs. Sabatelli’s fifthgrade class at Sawmill Intermediate School in Commack honored our veterans this week. Students created “Bookmarks for Bravery” with American Flag icons and quotes about bravery. The bookmarks are being sent to local veterans

organizations to share the students’ love of literacy, as well as to student’s family members serving in the armed forces. Special guest visitor, Vietnam Army veteran Paul Pedersen, who is Mrs. Sabatelli’s grandfather, shared his experiences in

‘Ride The Wave To Middle School’ Congratulations are in order for Mt. Pleasant Elementary fifth grade student Mackenzie Albanese on winning the fifth grade Moving Up T-shirt contest. Mackenzie’s “Ride the Wave to Middle School” design was voted the winner by her class. The

announcement was made by Principal Joseph Ierano at a bagel breakfast hosted by the PTA. All seven finalists worked with Mt. Pleasant art teacher, Kathleen Lindbom, on creating their drawings for the fifth grade Moving Up T-shirts. Mrs. Lindbom then refined the

drawing, which will appear on the front of the shirt with students’ signatures on the back. The other finalists were Kylie Cabrera, Dylan Cossi, Sean Farrell, Ellie Kuletsky, Vivian Siglain and Elijah Stewart.
