Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Pal-O-Mine offers programs to Verterans from Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and for Service men and women who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom,
Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom and for Active Duty Service Members. It’s not always easy to ask for help, but the benefits of doing so outweigh the fear. One military member who received help from this organizaiton mentioned the following, “For someone in the military like me, it’s hard to swallow my pride and ask for help. This was a safe environment to open up in. The Andrew McMorris Memorial Walkathon will be held on Friday, November 27th after being cancelled due to the initial outbreak of the Corona Virus. The scenic trail walk will be through the beautiful and picturesque Baiting Hollow Scout Camp located at 1774 Sound Avenue, Calverton, NY and will include a tour of the beautiful McMorris Lodge being built at the Camp. The McMorris Family, along with the Suffolk County Council of the Boy Scouts of America are hosting this Walkathon to raise the funds needed to complete the McMorris
Lodge, which is under construction at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp in memory of Andrew Mc Morris. Andrew is the Boy Scout, who was killed by a drunk driver, while hiking the Greenbelt Trail with his Boy Scout Troop 161 in September 2018. Several other Scouts were severely injured as a result of this tragic crash. The lives of his family, friends, community and fellow scouters were forever changed by Andrew’s loss. All walkers will enjoy a complementary grab and go lunch at the conclusion of the Walkathon which is being donated by Applebee’s. North Fork Trolley will be providing complementary shuttle service for all participants
to and from the parking area for the event. The Council has an extensive alumni network across Long Island.
Army Soldier Desperate For Help To Rescue Cat From The Middle East Being deployed to the Middle East can be challenging for any U.S. soldier. But when you get difficult family news from back home, it can make getting through that period even more difficult. When Army Sergeant Ash received difficult family news, she took comfort in a rescued kitten that was near death. Now people wonder if she saved the kitten, or if the
kitten actually saved her. Coming back home to the States, she is desperate to bring the cat, Rona, along with her. To help make it happen, she has turned to Guardians of Rescue, which has a reputation of helping soldiers. “We know all too well how important and lifesaving these pets are to our soldiers stationed in the Middle East,”
explains Robert Misseri, president of Guardians of Rescue, an animal rescue organization. “When they come back home, they can’t bear to leave them there, and we agree that it’s not safe. Leaving the cat in the Middle East will end up being a death sentence for it. We will make every effort to bring Rona home to her, but we need the public’s support to help make it
happen.” Sgt. Ash’s roommate worked for a veterinarian on base, where they had been given a rescued kitten that was only a week old. They didn’t know if it would make it, as it was near death, and they knew she needed around-theclock care. That’s when she decided to hook up

Dogwood’s Election Day: Best Pet Of 2020 Dogwood Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District took to the polls this Election Day to vote for the Best Pet of 2020. Each class received a voting packet, which will include ballots and “I Voted” stickers. It
was a race of cats against dogs as each student cast their vote for their favorite. After filling out their ballots, the students voted confidentially in the ballot box located outside the library. In the classrooms, including Ms. Krug’s fifth

Army Soldier Desperate For Help To Rescue Cat From The Middle East Continued From 6 Sgt. Ash with the kitten, thinking that taking care of her would help distract her thoughts from all the family issues that were weighing on her. Sgt. Ash took the kitten and gave it all the care that it needed. Twice she thought she almost lost her, but the kitten held on and pushed through. Once she overcame being sick, she decided to name her Rona, which was after the coronavirus, because she felt that the virus is tough to fight, and Rona had put up a great fight. She went on to spend all of her time with Rona, creating a loving bond and seeing her as a sign of hope and strength. “We saved each other and we belong together,” shares Sgt. Ash. “I pray that Guardians of Rescue will be able to bring Rona home to the States, where we can live out our lives together. I’m grateful for their help, as well as to everyone who
donates to help make it possible.” Guardians of Rescue is no stranger to helping soldiers bring their pets back from deployment. They have helped many people bring back their dogs and cats, all through the help of the public. Bringing pets back is not an easy task, and it’s one that is also costly. Not only will Rona have to go through a medical check, but the organization will need to work with other organizations in the Middle East to help make it happen, and it will need to pay for the travel expenses. Guardians of Rescue is asking the public to make a donation of any amount possible to help bring Rona back to live with Sgt. Ash. St. James Elementary Honors Student, Raises Awareness
St. James Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District honored Paige Keely on Oct. 22 as AVM Awareness Day. Paige passed away suddenly at the age of 6 from the condition known as arteriovenous malformation. To raise awareness and remember
Paige, students at the school held a crazy hair day. Gina Keely, Paige’s mom, has set up a foundation – the Paige Elizabeth Keely Foundation – to raise awareness and detection of brain AVMs. October is designated as AVM Awareness Month and
the goal is to help raise awareness in the school, community and beyond. The foundation educates communities about this treatable disease and is working to establish early detection screening programs.

LONG ISLAND COMMUNITY HOSPITAL HEROES WEEK - Long Island Community Hospital recently celebrated Heroes Week recognizing all of their healthcare heroes who stood strong against COVID-19, for the protection of our community. As part of the week-long celebration, gift bags including a commemorative medal and a long sleeve T-Shirts were distributed to the entire staff. The shirts were emblazoned with an original “Courageous Hearts” design, created especially for the hospital by a local designer. The original graphic depicts two caped heroes facing the challenges of the pandemic with purpose, commitment and care. Both were proudly worn by the staff throughout the hospital in a display of unity and team spirit.

North Shore Rapid COVID-19 Testing Facility to Move to a New Location
In an effort to increase efficiency and ease of access of COVID-19 testing, Nassau County in partnership with Northwell Health has moved the North Shore drive-thru COVID-19 rapid testing facility to 600 Community Drive in Manhasset. The drive-thru rapid
testing site will be open from 10 am to 3pm Monday through Friday. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 1-833-4CARENY (1-833422-7369). This COVID-19 testing is provided free regardless of insurance or immigration status. Testing will be open to

To help whet the appetites of the Webelos Scouts as they learn about what to expect when entering their local Boy Scout Troop next year, the Matinecock District (Boy Scouts of America), held its 21st annual Webelos Woods event, as 19 Cub Scout Packs and 18 Boy Scout Troops from the Commack, Kings Park, and Hauppauge areas of Smithtown Township and from the entire Town of Huntington attended the day event on October 4th at the Seminary of the
Immaculate Conception in Huntington. Due to the COVID restrictions and guidelines, it was a day trip instead of the usual overnight camping trip. Everyone wore masks and filled out a COVID-19 Prescreen forms prior to the event as precautions and for Tracer information (if needed in the future). If you are interested in joining Boy Scouts, there’s no need to have been a Cub Scout prior to joining! Watch for the 2021 Webelos Woods and join us for the fun and excitement
of scouting weekend in October 2021. TACKAN’S MAGICAL PUMPKIN PATCH - The kindergarten students at Tackan Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District were in for quite a surprise when they went outside their classrooms this October. Teachers told the classes a story of how they met a witch on their way to school who gave them magic pumpkin seeds. At the start of the week, the kindergartners took the magic pumpkin seeds and sprinkled them outside their classroom. To their surprise, when they came into school the next day, a pumpkin patch sprouted overnight. Each student took home their own pumpkin. the winner in each category, it provides a professionally developed video to each finalist, it also provides an avenue to collaborate and explore, exposure and recognition to the finalists and the sector, and a night where the light is shine in on the
sector to spotlight all the amazing things that are happening in the nonprofit community. Imagine Awards participants have developed new partnerships and collaborations, made corporate connectios, which has resulted
in new board members and contributions, hve gained strategic insight into what other organizations are doing, and have developed new friendships a n d relationships that have p r o v e n essential in the growth and development of their organizations.
