· Donate to a non-profit. There’s countless non-profit organizations that support our veterans. Make a donation to support their mission! · Participate in a parade. If your town hosts a Veterans Day parade, find out how you can volunteer or be a part of it. Oftentimes parade officials enable youth groups, such as high school marching bands or scouting troops, to participate in the parade. · Ask a veteran to speak. If you work in a school or a community center, ask veterans to share their experiences with area youth. · Thank them for their service and ask how they’re doing. A simple “thank you” and “how are you doing” can go farther than you think.

Smithtown High Schools East And West Named To Advanced Placement School Honor Roll College Board announced that Smithtown High Schools East and West has been named to the Advanced Placement Program School Honor Roll. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing collegegoing culture, providing opportunities for students

to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. “AP represents an opportunity for students to stand out to colleges, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools have shown that they can expand access to these college-level courses and still drive high performance. Smithtown Senior Citizens Department Is Seeking Senior Residents To Craft Items For The Annual Tender Years Treasury Event talented at making handcrafted gift items. I had the pleasure of speaking with a few of our center’s quilters last week. The quality in craftsmanship leaves you speechless. I can’t wait to see who participates this year… The Tender Years Treasury gives kids the chance to shop for family and friends using their own allowance money, without ruining the surprise. Trotta Holds Winter Coat Drive With SMM Advertising And RSVP For a number of years, Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta has been coordinating with Smithtown based SMM Advertising and Retired Volunteer Services Programs (RSVP) to conduct a winter coat drive to benefit the residents of Suffolk County who are in need of warm winter clothing. new coats, jackets, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and blankets for infants, children, teens and adult men and women. “As people prepare for the winter and clean out their closets or plan to give a new coat as a gift, it is important for all of us to help our fellow neighbors who need warm coats by contributing to this drive,” said Legislator Rob

The special shopping experience for children to purchase affordable, handcrafted holiday gifts for their families will be held on Saturday, December 2nd from 10AM to 1PM at the Eugene Cannataro Senior Citizens Center located at 420 Middle Country Road in Smithtown. Senior crafters can reserve a table at no cost to them through the Smithtown Senior Citizens Department or by calling (631) 360-7616. “This event is always so well received by the community. At 4:30 p.m. the Commack Spirit Village was open for raffles and spirit wear on campus, and at 5 p.m. the Spirit Parade began, with cheers from spectators along the route. After the parade, the community gathered

to honor our hometown heroes. Superintendent Dr. Cox spoke on the importance of this event to him. As the son of a veteran and brother of a first responder, he understands the sacrifices made by frontline worker every day. Commack was delighted to honor Suffolk County police officers, EMTs, and military service people at the event. Following the ceremony, the boys varsity soccer team kicked off their game. Between the varsity

soccer games, there was a halftime performance featuring our awardwinning marching band and cougarette kickline team. Additionally, the crowning of homecoming king and queen and CHS class float winners. Following this, the girls varsity team played their game starting at 8:15. During the halftime break of each varsity game, there were halftime games with the Commack Soccer League teams.

The night of Commack High School’s Soccer Under The Stars and Homecoming 2.0 was filled with community togetherness, fun, and a sense of pride. The school united to honor its community heroes and celebrate its classes. Many thanks to the Commack Soccer League for donating the lights for the event. These games hold special importance to the Commack administration and students, and it showed

in the outpouring of support and participation. Commack’s varsity soccer teams swept the opponents with both games ending with a 5-0 win! But the real highlight of the evening was the sense of community spirit that was palpable in the air.
