The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual event (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they are bringing the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! Each event has been going great, with up to hundreds of guests each night! The remaining events will run on October 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. On Halloween, their event will be kid-friendly! There will be no actors and walk through tours of their haunted house will be given. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a nonprofit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, nonmedical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. Tournament was Peter Sikinger with a record of 9-1, beating Larry Bond. Larry was undefeated prior to going into the finals. He finished with a record of 5-2. Greg Burns came in 3rd place. Peter Sikinger and Jay McConnell were the winners of the Doubles competition. They finished

Celebrating National Writing Day To celebrate National Writing Day, the fourth grade classes at Mills Pond Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District participated in different writing seminars on Oct. 21. The fourth graders had
the option to choose which seminar they would like to attend depending on their interests. The fourth grade teachers each presented a different writing workshop including: writing an alternate ending to a story, creating a sequel to a poem
and creating adoption advertisements for one of the world’s top 10 ugliest animals. The students also had a chance to stop at the photo wall with a prop to take a picture and remember National Writing Day.

New York’s blood supply has never been lower, and New York Blood Center (NYBC) is urgently calling for donors. There has been a significant decline in regular blood donors, and the region’s supply has reached critically low levels. In order to maintain a safe blood supply, a seven-day inventory of all blood types must be continually replenished. Right now, reserves are below that minimum. October has always been the month to recover, to take a breath and know our blood supply will rebound after the tough summer months. Unfortunately, this year, that is not the case. Our region’s blood supply has never been lower. This critical blood shortage stems from decline in donor base and increased demand for blood. Homecoming Celebrations Smithtown High School East’s homecoming celebrations on Oct. 19 was a true community event with an old-school feel. Students, families, staff and community members turned out on a beautiful, sunny afternoon to watch the parade and cheer on the East football team as the Bulls faced off against the Centereach Cougars. The parade kicked off at St. James Elementary School and was led down Lake Avenue by the
marching band, followed by East junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders, the Great Hollow Middle School cheerleaders, the East Whisperettes kickline, and Smithtown East and West baton twirlers. Carloads of high school students rounded out the procession into the high school stadium. The football teams’ offense and defense were well-matched, with each leaving it all on the field. Centereach took an early
lead in the second quarter. The Smithtown East Bulls battled back in the fourth quarter but ultimately came up short. The halftime show was an early Halloween treat, with performances by the varsity cheerleaders, nationally recognized baton twirlers, and Whisperettes, 21-time national champions. of mental illness and the resources to provide assistance,” said Legislator Trotta. Ms. Albert, is working on a school project called BREATHE (Boosting, Reforming, and Enriching Access to Health Education) to try to raise awareness of mental health issues in her school, as well as in the community.

Planting Seeds of Hope Brian Kurtz of Commack, PSEG Long Island’s manager of Customer Satisfaction, got down and dirty with his colleagues by harvesting, weeding and planting cooler weather crops at Island Harvest Food Bank’s Giving Garden in Brentwood. The group was participating in the food bank’s annual Community Day to recognize Hunger Action Day® and Hunger Action
Month. A nationwide effort to eradicate hunger, Hunger Action Day® takes place on the second Thursday of September, which is Hunger Action Month. “There are far too many people on Long Island who struggle with hunger every day,” said Kurtz. “I’m happy to do my little part to help change that.” PSEG Long Island is committed to giving back to
the people and communities it serves by actively supporting hundreds of local charity events each year through the company’s Community Partnership Program. Last year, PSEG Long Island employees logged 26,000 service hours, volunteering at 1,145 fundraising and community events to support more than 400 organizations. For more information on how PSEG

Smithtown Honors Historian Brad Harris Supervisor Ed Wehrheim joined with local elected officials, members of the Smithtown Historical Society, friends and family, to honor Smithtown Historian Brad Harris for his decades of service to the Town of Smithtown. During a Celebratory Golf & Lunch event on September 25th, the town presented Brad Harris with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was given to honor the “Keeper of Smithtown History” for a life dedicated to public service. “This is an honor that is long overdue… Brad Harris has worn every hat in the betterment of our community. He’s an educator, a former town councilman, a published writer, and our town historian. Brad Harris has literally devoted his lifetime to our great town

Students Spread Inspiration The 50-plus members of the S.I.T.E. (Spreading Inspiration Through Education) Club at Smithtown High School East are hard at work inspiring a younger generation of students at Mills Pond Elementary in the Smithtown Central School District. Club co-presidents Hailey Sheridan and Haleigh Gahan, along with about a dozen members,
visit with students at Mills Pond Elementary School each week to provide a hands-on lesson. At their weekly meeting, the students discuss project ideas. Working with the classroom teacher, the students develop an engaging lesson and visit the class to work alongside the students. One or two mentor S.I.T.E students work with the elementary students for small group
instruction. At the end of the lesson, the groups present their work to the class. On Oct. 17, the students worked in fourth grade classes and presented a lesson based on the scientific method. The students conducted an experiment using Skittles and hot water and wrote a hypothesis, questions and observations.

Candies like mints, caramels and hard candies can absorb moisture. They should not be mixed with other candies that can lose moisture, such as fudge and creamy confections. The NCA notes that hard candies can stay hard if sprinkled with finely ground sugar and stored in airtight containers. 6. Use candy in other ways. If eating chocolate bar after chocolate bar becomes tiresome, repurpose candy in different recipes. Chocolate can replace chips or morsels in cookies. Use hard candies to garnish cakes. Melt down caramels to use for ice cream toppings or chop up nutty candies to make your own sundae toppings.
