The Babylon Lions Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been serving their community for over 80 years! The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. You can become involved with the Cemetery of Lost Souls in many ways. They are actively looking for volunteers in the following areas: Digital Marketing (to help with social media marketing), Scare Team Members (actors to help put on the event), Security (watching over the event and making sure all guests are safe), and Bake Team Members (to donate baked

TEAMING UP AGAINST CHILDHOOD DISEASES - Rob Ciavarella’s fifth grade class at Mount Pleasant Elementary in the Smithtown Central School District went on the offensive against childhood diseases by teaming up with the National Football League. The class made activity books that were distributed to children in the pediatric wards of Stony Brook Hospital. This community service project added 2,000 minutes to the “NFL’s Huddle for 100” goal of 100 million community service minutes during the league’s 100th anniversary season. Radio City Rockettes Come To Town Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim presented the Radio City Rockettes with an honorary Proclamation on behalf of the town for their visit to the Smithtown Public Library. On Wednesday, September 25th, approximately 100 children & parents lined up at the Smithtown Public Library to meet two Radio City Rockettes.

Two of the Radio City Rockettes, Mindy and Taylor, met with aspiring dancers and fans, made keepsake snow
globes and took photos with the children and their families. Photos with the Rockettes, were instantly printed and framed inside each snow globe. The Rockettes then assisted with decorating the memorable keepsakes. The visit was a free event, held in the Children’s Department.

VOLUNTEERS COME TOGETHER TO RENOVATE FACILITY - A team of volunteers pulled together to renovate the Children’s Facility at VIBS Family violence and Rape Crisis Center in Islandia this past weekend, where children who are victims of sexual abuse and who are witnesses to domestic violence receive counseling and support.

The first rape crisis center established on Long Island, VIBS provides specialized trauma informed counseling, advocacy, 24/7 confidential hotline, community education and legal representation to over thousands of individuals in Suffolk County and beyond each year. Services are for victims of domestic violence, rape/sexual assault, child sexual abuse, child witness to domestic violence, elder abuse, human trafficking, witnesses to homicide and for veterans suffering from Military Sexual Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and are provided free of charge to all clients. The United Construction Industry of America (UCIAM), pulled together contractors and affiliated members with the help of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) to renovate the Children’s Facility at VIBS Family violence and Rape Crisis Center in Islandia this past weekend, where children who are victims of sexual abuse and who are witnesses to domestic violence receive counseling and support. One in ten boys and girls will be victims of sexual abuse before they turn 18. Often, these children suffer depression, confusion, have trouble in school and problems socializing.
