Wolmetz, HRDA Board Member. The night was filled with fun and support from local small businesses in the community. Residents and guests enjoyed amazing food from Duck Donuts, Main Street Meats and Catering, Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea and Whisky Axual food truck. The night rocked with music by Hauppauge’s own Rich Rowehl who donated his talent and time with his company RP Entertainment. Performances by budding rock stars from Musicology and Rock and Roll U were also a highlight along with the HYO Cheerleaders! The event was captured by Identity Digital Video expertise as their donation towards the cause. The community also enjoyed mingling with some other local businesses and community officials excited to champion the HRDA cause: Revolve Indoor Cycling Studio who was the banner sponsor at this event, The Hauppauge Library, Smithtown Children’s Foundation, Boy Scout Troop 343, Girl Scout Troop 229, ABC Foundation, Hauppauge School District Officials, Hauppauge Fire Department, Bretton Woods PTA, Hauppauge Rotary and Carla Simpson. “This event is our first

annual “PARTY FOR THE PARK.” We were so overwhelmed by the number of Hauppauge residents that joined us, are excited about our cause and are here to support HRDA’s mission. We expect this event to be the first of many with the end goal to host it in a park that we develop along with our town officials”, said Jennifer O’Brien. About HRDA: Hauppauge is underserved with open space parks, youth sports fields, community centers and residential related services. Seeing a need to change this for the hamlet, residents, parents, and small business owners of Hauppauge came together and created a 5013c non for profit called Hauppauge Recreation Development Association (HRDA). The HRDA was spearheaded by Hauppauge residents and parents, Dave Wolmetz, Jennifer O’Brien, Holly Glick, Carrie Goldstein, Stephanie Scaduto, Jennifer Lally and Robert Mannino. Helping Hand Rescue Mission(HHRM) is a local non-proﬁt organization that is located at 225 Broadway in Huntington Station, but serves people all over our island. Their mission is to improve the spiritual and temporal conditions of the children, families and people of the communities they serve by providing excellent service to all who come, whether they be rich or poor, high or low social status. They are here to love, to serve and to give.

Thanksgiving Food Distribution: The big, special family meal with that big, wonderful bird shouldn’t be a cause for extra ﬁnancial strain for families in need. Helping Hand Rescue Mission provides Thanksgiving food boxes and turkeys for families so they can cook up their special meal and have it together. In 2020, they served over a thousand families with Thanksgiving food boxes and frozen turkeys that were donated and funded by wonderful churches, businesses, organizations, and families. They believe an enormous part of gratitude is giving back, and they’re so thankful to be able to provide with their community, for their community!

Rep. Zeldin Shares Update on Northport VA Medical Center Demolition

Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) shared a photo update of the progress being made in the demolition project of Buildings 1 and 2 at the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The contractor completed the demolition of the foundation of Building 1 and is set to begin the foundation portion of Building 2. The project is scheduled to be completed in its entirety by November

24, 2021. “This is the start of a welcome and much needed change at the Northport VA Medical Center. For too long, these vacant buildings have served no purpose and have only obstructed traffic for veterans trying to receive the care they have earned from the VA. I’m hopeful that the successful and efficient completion of this project will significantly improve the Northport

VA’s infrastructure and veterans’ access to care,” said Congressman Zeldin. Congressman Zeldin has long advocated for the destruction of these unused buildings to allow for infrastructure enhancements that will make the rest of the VA campus more accessible for patients and their families. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing the project.

Smithtown CSD Holds Ceremonies To Mark 20th Anniversary Of 9/11 The Smithtown Central School district marked the 20th anniversary of 9/11 by holding tree-planting ceremonies at both high schools on Sept. 10. The somber ceremonies served as reminders to never forget those who died on the tragic day and also to recognized the sacrifice

made by first responders and rescue workers who have since passed away from related illnesses. In both ceremonies, a matching blue spruce tree provided by a local nursery was planted in remembrance, with students completing the shoveling. The Smithtown,

St. James and Nesconset fire departments and color guards, as well as members of American Legion Post 833 and VFW Post 10870, attended. A moment of silence also was observed. The ceremony at High School West took place at a garden created shortly after 9/11, which displays a steel

beam from the World Trade Center. “I’m both honored and humbled to be with you today for this very special ceremony,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Secaur

told students and other attendees during the earlier ceremony. “It’s hard to believe it’s been that long since that fateful day — a day when all gave some, and some gave all. It was a

day mixed with honor and horror as well as sacrifice and selflessness. Today we honor the memories of the lives lost that day as well as those lost in the years since.”
