ARTIST VIVIAN GATTUSO EXHIBITION - Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce that the works of artist Vivian Gattuso will be on view at Apple Bank, 91 Route 111, Smithtown, September 9 - November 8. The exhibition, part of STAC’s Outreach Gallery Program, can be viewed during regular bank hours.

Currently living in Lake Ronkonkoma, Vivian was born in Manhattan but moved to Long Island when she was 16. “A self-taught artist, my interest in painting began when I was exposed to photographs of Long Island while working in my Real Estate career.” A Southampton gallery owner saw something special in Vivian’s paintings and suggested that she hone her drawing skills and study mixing colors. Taking his advice, Vivian “learned to draw with the right side of my brain” and studied mixing colors like the Masters…advice that helped her grow as an artist. Vivian has found a passion in developing her art that she never knew existed. “I find myself always exploring the local landscape for new and exciting ideas and colors to create. Art has become a passion for me and has enabled me to discover new visions of design, color and emotions. My photography is a path

that leads to creating my paintings. My art is a welcome challenge, one that helps me deal with everyday situations and how to tackle them constructively.” “My Inspiration comes from the many local Areas of Long Island and to the various places of travel throughout the world. I photograph an interest and then recreate the scene on canvas. I have learned many techniques thru various classes, books, computer YouTube videos. I am always looking for how to improve my work and the enjoyment and satisfaction of completing an art piece.” Vivian’s work has been displayed and sold in Hampton Bays Library, EBay, Mills Pond Gallery, privately and has been shown in Brookhaven Town Hall, Sachem Library, Phoenix Gallery, and at the Green House Antiques in St. James. STAC is grateful to Apple Bank for its continued support of culture in our communities.

The Charity of the Month for September is: The Twilight Wish Foundation www.twilightwish.org

and respects our senior population. Twilight Wish recipients report that having their wish granted impacted their life for the better. Their mental and physical health often improved, positively changing their outlook on life! The wishes that this organization grants truly changes the way that our society views aging, as it witnesses seniors living life to the fullest. By sharing their recipients’ stories, they inspire both older and younger generations and help bring about a cultural shift in how aging is perceived in our society. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,000 wishes throughout our country, ranging from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. This Foundation has expanded throughout America and they currently have 17 chapters. The majority of their chapter directors and chapter volunteers have full-time jobs, but volunteer their time because they believe so much in the impact Twilight Wish has on our senior population. They are presently looking to expand their outreach to seniors by making our business and community leaders/charitable organizations aware of who they are. In conjunction with Prostate Health Awareness Month, The Town of Smithtown and Integrated Medical Foundation will host free Prostate Cancer screenings at the Smithtown Town Hall Board Room on Tuesday, September 10th, from 11AM to 1PM. PSA Blood tests will be performed by professionals from Integrated Medical Foundation. Participants have the option of receiving a non-invasive DRE Exam performed by Dr. Thomas Harrington, MD, FACS Advanced Urology Centers of NY - Smithtown South. This event is open to all men over the age of 40 who

have not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer, regardless of whether or not they have insurance. To schedule a free screening, RSVP to 631-257-6070. Participants must bring a photo ID and a self-addressed stamped envelope in order to be notified about the results. Senior citizens are the fastest growing population in the world. The number of Americans who are 65 and older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060. In the United States today, 1 in 3 seniors older than 65 live alone and the number of seniors living alone only increases with age. Many of these seniors experience social isolation, which can lead to undesirable conditions. Granting a Twilight Wish can help change that!
