They had a successful day seeing over 20 animals, free of charge for these disabled veterans. "We hope to continue our mission to help more disabled veterans with their animals” says Co-founder Robert Misseri. A garage sale fundraiser to benefit Hauppauge Boy Scout Troop 343’s Michael Hufnagel to help pay for the materials for his Eagle Scout Community Service Project is being held Saturday and Sunday July 25 and July 26 - from 9AM till 3PM, at 1 Sarah Drive, Hauppauge (off Route 347, cross street is Clifford Blvd). Rain date: The following weekend August 1 and 2. The proceeds from this event will help to offset the cost of the materials needed for building and installing a “Bench Swing” at Smithtown location of Angela’s House (for medically fragile children). Please drop off supplies on the porch of the Sweetbriar Nature Center at 62 Eckernkamp Drive, Smithtown. The main house and indoor areas remain closed for the time being. Sweetbriar Nature Center, who has served our community for 50 years, has been severely affected by the pandemic. Equity First Foundation (EFF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. EFF provides financial education, literacy and best practices at low or no cost to individuals and groups from primary school through retirement and including life events.
Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. The Equity First Foundation has three different types of programs that they offer: Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:

These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit. Continues to Serve Long Island
Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk is continuing its mission to support homeownership for those most in need on Long Island, while adapting to COVID-19 and government restrictions to reduce the spread of the pandemic. The organization temporarily closed its ReStore Warehouse in mid-March and shifted to an online shopping model with scheduled curbside pickup. ReStore is a retail outlet open to the public to shop for quality donated new and slightly used building materials. ReStore is run by a small staff and many dedicated volunteers that help organize inventory, unload and organize donations, and prepare merchandise for the sales floor. All proceeds directly support the organization and cover the administrative costs of Habitat Suffolk. During Phase II, Habitat Suffolk re-opened the physical ReStore location after implementing safety protocols such as mask requirements, social distancing, limited occupancy, and cashless payments to ensure customer and staff safety, while continuing to offer the option of home
shopping and curbside pickup. “I am so proud of our team’s dedication and ability to overcome challenges and adjust to the realities of COVID-19, while honoring the Habitat mission of bringing people together to build homes and provide communities with hope during these difficult and uncertain times,” said Lee Silberman, CEO & Executive Director. “Being able to keep our administrative staff working remotely on critical projects, re-opening ReStore and finally having our construction team back building homes is crucial to continuing our mission.” We’re proud to have successfully launched Suffolk ReStore Online after temporarily closing the store front due to Covid-19, and to be able to help other Habitat for Humanity chapters looking to implement an online store to safely serve their communities during this pandemic,” said Glenn Grossman, Suffolk ReStore Senior Manager. “The biggest complaint we get from customers is that an exciting item they saw online sold out before they got a chance to buy it.” Proceeds from ReStore
