Dr. Baatarkhuu has a special interest in peritoneal dialysis, hypertension, and CKD prevention. She manages the care of patients with acute kidney injury, glomerulonephritis, cystic kidney diseases, patients with acid-base, electrolyte derangement, kidney stones, end-stage kidney disease, and kidney transplant recipients. Dr. Baatarkhuu is affiliated with Bassett Healthcare Network in Cooperstown, NY and she has an academic affiliation as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University in New York. Her passion for teaching contributes to her active involvement in educating medical students and residents while at Bassett Healthcare Network. She believes that spending

Smithtown East Senior Earns Scholastic Honors Smithtown High School East senior Alexis Yang won a national gold medal in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in the short story category for her piece “Austin.” More than 110,000 students submitted nearly 320,000 works of art and writing to the 2020 Scholastic Awards. Yang’s story was selected by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts for excellence in originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Only 3,000 works received a national medal, landing her work in the work
ALEXIS YANG in the top 1% of all submissions. The editor of Smithtown High School East’s literary magazine, “Solstice,” last
summer allowed Yang to indulge her passion for poetry with an internship at the Walt Whitman Birthplace and Historic Site in Huntington. Additionally, she was named a 2020 National YoungArts Foundation Merit Winner in writing/ short story by the National YoungArts Foundation. Her work was published in Canvas Teen Literary Journal’s fall 2019 issue. Yang will be attending Binghamton University in the fall. While she has not yet declared a major, she intends to pursue further studies in the field of English.

Smithtown Central School District’s Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting remotely on July 7. Board members Matthew Gribbin, Frank James and
Jerry Martusciello were sworn into their seats by District Clerk Maureen O’Connor. The board also cast its vote for president and vice president for Mr. Gribbin and Michael
Catalanotto, respectively. The district clerk swore in interim Superintendent of Schools Russell Stewart and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mark Secaur.

Sweetbriar Nature Center Animal Food Drive. Ongoing this summer!!! The facility is in need of donations of fruits and vegetables for the many animals rehabilitating in their care. Most needed items are all sorts of berries, grapes, apples, carrots, celery, lettuce or anything similar. In addition, Sweetbriar has an Amazon Smile account set up (link on their website) with a wish list of items most needed.

Rhonda Klch, Executive Director of the Equity First Foundation has taken all necessary steps to get out of her comfort zone and attack COVID with her resources. As a women entrepreneur, she used her relationships, social media and community to power through this current pandemic.
Educational Institution Program This program focuses on k-12, post secondary, and trade schools with student types comprised of all abilities including special needs and developmentally disabled. It is offered as a workshop / assembly that can last for as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Each program is uniquely designed to fit the educational facility after a comprehensive needs analysis. Some sample topics that can be addressed are:
career options by salary, understanding money management, life skills, healthy financial choices, creating a budget, creating a savings account and more. Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program focuses on independent facilities, partnering charities and nonprofits, community centers, libraries, career fairs, guest speakers, events and more for all demographics. These are offered in as short as 45 minutes to as long as a full day or mini series. Some sample topics are: first time home-buyer, understanding student loans, improving your credit, avoiding senior scams, understanding your retirement plan and more. Corporate Awareness Program This program focuses on a lunch and learn structure for 10 or more employees. Some sample topics are: paying off debt, understanding your 401K, saving for vacation, your family on a budget and benefits of good credit.
