FAIRY TALES COME TO LIFE - It was a royal affair to remember as the second grade classes at Tackan Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District celebrated their Fairy Tale Ball on June 7. Dressed in their finest royal threads, the students walked into the event to the “The Blue Danube Waltz” by Strauss. Together, the classes welcomed attendees by singing “Be Our Guest” from “Beauty and the Beast.” After a dance and poem, each class took to the stage to show off their fairy tale knowledge. Mrs. Rhode’s class recited “The Princess and the Pea,” while Mrs. Joyce and Mrs. Fenster’s class performed “The Three Little Pigs.” “Little Red Riding Hood” was recited by Mrs. DiLorenzo’s class and Mrs. Franz’s class performed “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.” The ball continued back in the classrooms, where attendees were invited to share in the celebration with the royalty. Residents have the opportunity to securely pay for the permits online using a credit card (Mastercard, Visa, Discover) a Debit Card or Electronic Check. “I am so pleased to announce this convenient service for our residents in

On Sunday, May 26th 2019 the Smithtown Veterans Resource Committee, local officials and the American Legion Posts throughout the Smithtown Township hosted a Centennial Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Plaza. Veteran members from James Ely Miller Post 833, Sherwood Brothers Post 1152 and Donald C. Munro Post 944 along with community members gathered together to commemorate the 100th Anniversary. “For 100 Years - American Legions across this nation have protected, democracy, decency, freedom and the selfless men and women who fought to safeguard this great nation and her children. We’re here today to celebrate a nobel vision that began 100 years ago this year… To Legionnaires across the nation, may you be fortunate enough to continue the mission for one hundred more.”

The presentation of the colors was conducted by members of the three American Legion Posts, followed by an acapella performance of the National Anthem by the Smithtown High School East Chamber Choir. The Recognition of the Posts was delivered by Smithtown AmericanLegion Post 833 Service Officer, Tom Mooney. Kings Park American Legion Post 944 Commander, Ken Dolan gave a brief speech about the formation of the American Legion. “In support of their wounded comrades to honor the fallen and to care for their surviving spouses, and to protect democracy they pledged their lives to defend, these troops envisioned a different kind of Veterans Association. The American Legion would be built on strengthening the Nation, not serving themselves, through four primary

pillars of volunteer work: Veterans, Defense, Youth and Americanism.” - Ken Dolan A brief interlude performance of To The Colors was played by Kevin Eaton on the bugle. The ceremony closed with final comments from Sherwood Brothers Post 1152 Commander Ed Springer Sr. who discussed the importance of inviting the younger generations of Veterans to join the membership. The Smithtown American Legion Rifle Squad executed the ceremonial military gun salute followed by a solo performance of God Bless America, performed by Smithtown PIO Nicole Garguilo. Town Clerk Vincent Puleo ended the ceremony by thanking the Town Parks Department, State, County and Local Officials and the newly formed Veterans Resource Committee who orchestrated the 100th Anniversary celebration.

Boy Scout Troop 52’s Newest Eagle Scout Smithtown, NY)… Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta recognized William Hansen Apmann of Boy Scout Troop 52 for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at his recent Court of Honor held at the East Northport Fire Department. For his Eagle Scout community Service Project, William constructed two different types of wheelchair accessible picnic tables for the veterans at the Northport Veterans Hospital. Legislator Trotta presented William with a proclamation at the ceremony and said, “This is a very proud moment for you, your family and your troop leaders and fellow scouts. I extend my congratulations to you for being an outstanding member of the community and hope that you will maintain an active role it. Your accomplishment has set a high standard for commitment and dedication, which I hope will inspire the youth NEWEST EAGLE SCOUT - Suffolk County Legislator of our great County of Rob Trotta is pictured with Eagle Scout William Apmann at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. SPEAKERS CELEBRATED - Smithtown High School East’s honor speaker Thomas Fanning and Smithtown High School West honor speaker Jonathan Pofcher were honored for their achievements, dedication and commitment at the 25th annual Suffolk County School Superintendents Association Valedictorian Luncheon on May 30. The students were recognized along with valedictorians from throughout Suffolk County. Girl Scout Troop 3006 Visits Town Hall Girl Scout Troop 3006 got the VIP tour of Town Hall recently as they earned their “Finding Common Ground” badge. The tour began with learning how the Town Clerk, Tax Receiver, Town Council and Supervisor’s office departments operate. Additionally, Town Attorneys Martin Simon & Jennifer Juengst, Youth Bureau’s Karen Aldrich and Park

Ranger Joseph Auguliaro were also on hand to share day in the life details about their respective departments. Troop 3006 asked questions about local government operations and learned the differences between town employees and Elected Officials. The troop also learned about the importance of volunteering in their
