The Butler Center’s first annual fundraiser will offer a show with three celebrity headlining comedians. SYJCC offer programs and community classes to the special needs communities 7 days per week to ages 5 through adulthood through its Butler Center. The Butler Center has been providing respite care to families of children with special needs since the early 1990’s. Since then, the Center has expanded to offer weekend programs, such as but not limited to respite programs and community classes where individuals attending can learn a variety of innovative skills. Celebrating The Uniqueness Of The Equinox The first day of spring is widely associated with a spirit of rejuvenation. But flowering plants and warming temperatures are not the only reasons to celebrate the arrival of the spring equinox. According to the National Weather Service, the spring equinox, together with the autumnal equinox, is one of only two times of the year when Earth’s axis is tilted neither toward nor away from the darkness at all latitudes. The sun. This results in a near- NWS notes that the nearly equal amount of daylight and equal hours of day and night
results from a refraction of sunlight, or a bending of the light’s rays that causes the sun to appear above the horizon, even though its actual position is below the horizon. In 2020, the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere occurs on March 19. While it’s easy to embrace the arrival of spring as a mere harbinger of warmer weather to come, the first day of spring also is a great time to pause and reflect on just how unique the equinoxes are.

Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta is collaborating with St. Joseph’s Church in Kings Park, to host a blood drive on Friday, March 20, from 1:30pm until 7:30pm. It is at Travis Hall – Lower Level, behind St. Joseph’s at 59 Church Street. The drive is to benefit the blood banks maintained by Long Island Blood Services, which provides blood to hospitals throughout Long Island. To be eligible to donate
blood, a person must be between the ages of 16 (16 with parental consent) and 75, weigh over 110 pounds and not have had a tattoo in the last 12 months. Please bring a valid photo ID with you. LI Blood Services recommends that you eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating. If you have donated before, please bring your blood donor card with you. “Hospitals are always in
need of blood supplies so it is important that if you can donate blood to do so because one pint of blood can help save three lives,” said Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta. As a “thank you,” LI Blood Services is giving each donor a voucher for McDonald’s for a free burger or salad with the purchase of one. 100 Days Smarter Smithtown Central School District’s students are 100 days smarter and elementary students throughout the district celebrated everything 100 with plenty of hands-on activities. Many elementary students dressed the part, with gray hair, glasses and walkers. The students created their own 100 day hats and poster boards featuring 100 different items. Showing off their artistic side, students made portraits of themselves at 100 years old and made gumball machines with 100 gumballs inside. During their math lesson, students went shopping with $100 and rolled dice to predict how many times it would take to get to 100. Students made necklaces out of 100 beads, counting by 10s in different colors. They stacked 100 plastic cups onto a tower and did 100 different exercises 10 times each, such as hula hoops, jumping rope and galloping.

111th EAGLE SCOUT OF BOY SCOUT TROOP 343 - Ian McAlister became the 111th Eagle Scout of Boy Scout Troop 343 (Hauppauge) when he was given the Oath and Charge as an Eagle Scout on March 1, 2010 during the special Eagle Court of Honor, held at St. Thomas More R.C. Church. Earning 61 Merit Badge (far more than the required 22 merit badges for the highest rank in Boy Scouts), his Eagle Scout community service project was to fundraise and to lead others in building a Hay Barn for Hoyt Farm. With the help of Project Coach Assistant Scoutmaster Scott Vasile and leading 13 scouts and 3 adults in the construction, Eagle Scout McAlister measured, cut and nailed a Hay Barn for the community to enjoy. Many local children and schools come to the park to see the animals, and the Hay Barn/food storage shed allows the animals to stay at the park. The front porch can be used for photo opportunities. He is a Red Cross Lifeguard s member of the Hauppauge High School swim and track teams and in the National Honor Society The son of Eric and Rosemarie McAlister, the Hauppauge High School senior will be attending Clemson University (S.C.) in the fall, with plans for a career in Agriculture Mechanization .
