East Northport resident Lois Bladykas, an associate of Ruskin Moscou Faltischek P.C. and a member of the firm’s Trust and Estates Department and Estate Litigation Practice Group, has been named the Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Trusts & Estates Law Section Membership & Law Students Committee. The New York State Bar Association’s Trusts & Estates Section, one of NYSBA’s largest sections, was developed to continue to provide educational
information and ongoing legal updates to attorneys on trust and estate law with the goal of preserving the wealth of individual and corporate clients. Lois Bladykas will help lead the Committee in its efforts to introduce members and potential members to the advantages and the work of the Trusts and Estates Law Section, including law students interested in trusts, estate and estate tax matters. “We are extremely proud that the New York State Bar Association has recognized Lois’ leadership and outstanding work in her field,” said Adam Silvers, Managing Partner, Ruskin Moscou Faltischek P.C. Lois Bladykas’ practice at Ruskin Moscou Faltischek focuses on estate and trust litigation, probate, estate administration, and estate planning. This includes all manner of Surrogate’s Court proceedings
including probate contests, accounting proceedings, discovery proceedings, and other complex disputes between beneficiaries and fiduciaries. She represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Surrogate’s Courts as well as trial and appellate courts throughout the New York metropolitan area. The Town of Smithtown announced the process of updating the Comprehensive Plan. The most integral part of this process is gathering public input to define the community’s vision for the Town’s present day and future. Residents are encouraged to participate through public workshops, an interactive website, survey and public hearings. Hamlet based Community Workshops will begin with Smithtown, on March 7th at 7:00 PM at the Eugene Cannataro
Senior Citizens Center. Residents and students are encouraged to attend the community workshops in their respective hamlets to contribute input towards the immediate and longterm approach for smart growth and development, protection, and community enhancement. The fifth-graders have a chance to participate in a variety of different handson, STEM-based activities that challenge them to think outside the box and use their creative minds to problem solve. The
students sign up for Tinker Tuesdays, which take place during their lunch period. So far this year, the students have done origami, and worked with pearler beads. On January 29th, the students were
tasked with making marshmallow towers using mini-marshmallows and toothpicks. The structures taught the students about different engineering principles and ways to craft the designs to have the most stability. After the designs were complete, the students shook their structures to mimic a natural disaster to see if they could withstand the destruction. Those whose structures tumbled went back to the building stage for a redesign.

According to the dictionary, a Puff Adder derives its name from the snake’s habit of inflating itself and hissing when it feels threatened. It is considered of one the most poisonous snakes in the world and is found in several countries around the globe. If you think about it, not only is this the habit of this reptile but it also applies to bullies who have the same reaction once they feel threatened by an outside force. Bullies are present around the world and while they don’t make a hissing sound when angry, it’s easy to notice how their facial expression turns into a grimace. YOUNG SCIENTISTS - As part of a Project Lead the Way lesson on the parts and functions of the human body, kindergartners at Dogwood Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District learned about the stomach. During a lesson with Project Lead the Way coach Brian Cusati, the budding scientists studied the stomach and learned how it works with the rest of the parts of the body. News12 Scholar Athlete Based on her academic and athletic achievements, Smithtown High School West senior Emily Eng has been chosen as a News12 Long Island Scholar Athlete Award recipient. She was recently presented
with a $1,000 check. Eng maintains a 4.38 unweighted grade point average and participates in track and field and gymnastics. She holds the school record in the pole vault and is also an All-
County performer. Eng is a five-time All-County gymnast and captain of the team. She was a contributing member of the 2017 gymnastics team that won the county championship.

Melt butter substitute in a large or medium sized skillet and add in Smart Ground soy crumbles. Mash up and turn crumbles as they brown (about 4 minutes). Turn off heat and set aside.
Pour jar of pasta sauce into a medium or large saucepan, turn on medium heat and stir in diced mushrooms and cooked soy crumbles. Let sauce simmer and then add in tumeric, salt, pepper and red wine; stire altogether, turn heat to low and cover tightly to re-simmer. Boil water and cook pasta for approximately 10 minutes until al dente. (soft, but slightly firm). Rinse and drain pasta and set aside. Steam peas in the microwave or 2-3 minutes and stir peas into sauce. Remove covered sauce from heat. Plate pasta, pour sauce over pasta and enjoy!

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced 30 Suffolk County Police Officers participated in a specialized weeklong training program designed to help officers address the needs of individuals suffering from mental illness. February’s Charity of the Month is: Paws of War
“Helping Both Ends of The Leash” Paws of War is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that trains and places shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military Veterans who suffer from the emotional effects of war. In turn, each Veteran can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love that only a companion animal can bring! Since 2014, Paws of War has supported over 100 Veterans with service dogs rescued from kill shelters.
The lives of many American Heroes have been changed forever because of what this organization has done for them!

Therapy Dog Program - This is a volunteer based program in which certified Therapy Dogs are brought to visit individuals that would benefit from a dog, but unfortunately cannot have one at the time being. War Torn Pups Program - This program has brought back dogs from Afghanistan, Syria and Jordan that Service Members have found while out on tour. Community Education Program - This program allows Paws of War to work with members of their local community. Through this program, they are able to provide a direct connection between Veterans and the younger population. Vets to Vets Medical RV - This mobile RV provides certain medical services for service animals at no cost to Veterans!
Paws of War is growing and has been recognized by national leaders, national press and some of the larger sporting franchises have even partnered with them to sponsor a dog. The men and women that this organization provides services for have dedicated their lives to serving our great country, and Paws of War strives to help them in every way possible! PRAAT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was incorporated in 1993 as a community
service project of the Patchogue Rotary Club. Veterinarian Dr. David Roy Hensen founded this
organization with a belief in the therapeutic potential of dogs! PRAAT screens, trains and eval-
uates all dog-handler teams (the volunteer and their dog). Upon a successful completion of the
PRAAT dog-handler team training, teams become eligible to make visits at over 150 of their contracted and insured facilities across Long Island. PRAAT also runs a Doggie Reading Club. This
program is designed to encourage children to improve confidence with their reading skills, while

The Paws of War Service Dog Program relies heavily on the support of their community and volunteers. Through this program they are able to provide service dogs and their training to Veterans in need at no cost, truly providing them with a miracle! A service dog can help combat the daily symptoms of PTSD. They are trained to pick up stress signals and intervene with their owner to direct their focus back to a positive environment. They can also greatly increase the quality of life for someone suffering from Traumatic Brain Injury. Paws of War trains service dogs to combat the daily issues that someone suffering from TBI has. Each service dog given out is intensely trained before handed off to the Veteran.

The Suffolk County Bar Association and the Suffolk Academy of Law production "Another Night" won the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) Innovation Award in the Big Bar Category at the Annual Meeting, January 18, 2019. The dramatization details the journey of 14- and 19- year old siblings who move from legitimate pain killers into addiction to opioids and heroin. The story, spearheaded by SCBA President, Justin M. Block, follows the two siblings’ journey through prescribed medication, to illicit drugs, and arrest through prosecution in the Suffolk County Courts and tackles the increasingly serious epidemic of opioid and heroin addiction in Suffolk County. The older sibling goes to District Court on criminal charges, while the younger one goes to Family Court.
The story then moves to the arrest, arraignment, retention of counsel, and watches as the cases move through the Court system. The case also highlights resources available for help with addiction, both for the addict and the family. The film faces many issues as well as delves in Social Host and Good Samaritan issues. A panel discussion followed the viewing and was moderated by Mr. Justin Block, SCBA President. Hon. Derrick J. Robinson, Acting County Court Judge and Presiding Judge for Mental Health Court, Edward Gialella, Drug Court Project Director, Anthony Rizzuto, Seafield Center and Debbie Virga, Commack Coalition of Caring, discussed the many issues faced by schools, parents, teachers and students. Suffolk Waterways Restoration
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced the completion of more than $7 million in dredge work as part of the county 2018-2019 Priority Waterway Dredging Program. The Suffolk County Department of Public Works has now completed dredge work in seventeen priority waterways across six towns to ensure safe passage for the commercial and residential fishing and
boating industries. “This completion marks an important milestone to ensure that our waterways are safer for boaters throughout Long Island,” said County Executive Bellone. “Now our commercial fishing and boating industries can have greater confidence when navigating local waterways while also strengthening our shoreline.” Suffolk County utilized an in-house, four-person
dredge crew under the Department of Public Works Waterways section in addition to third-party contractors. All together in 2018-2019, projects where completed in the Towns of Riverhead, Southold, Southampton, East Hampton, Shelter Island and Islip. In total, approximately 167,000 cubic yards of dredged material has been placed along approximately 11,000 feet of shoreline to
restore local beaches and increase storm resiliency. Additionally, the County Executive announced the completion of two restoration projects with significant public benefit: the Meschutt County Park Beach Nourishment and the Coecles Harbor Revitalization project. The Meschutt County Park Beach Nourishment project restored approximately 1,300 feet of bathing beach in the
park, which is located along the Great Peconic Bay, providing residents with areas for bathing, snorkeling, windsurfing and sailing. In addition, the protective feature design of the newly nourished beach includes an engineered berm that increases storm resiliency. Over the past 3 years this Park has hosted close to 150,000 visitors and yielded over $400,000 in parking revenue alone. Coecles Harbor, often
referred to as the ‘Jewel of the Peconics, underwent extensive shoreline restoration helping address a critical need for the town of Shelter Island. Crews completed dredge work in the Harbor restoring safe passage for thousands of boaters that utilize the harbor annually for public uses such as long-term and short-term transient mooring, and recreational pursuits including boating, fishing, and shell fishing.

Michelle Amato (Moriches, New York) is currently the chief of staff/ VP of strategic innovation at Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York located in Brooklyn. Amato’s expertise includes child welfare, social services, program innovation and implementation and
operation efficiency. Prior to joining Little Flower, she served as director of Bridges to Health. Amato holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ithaca College and a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from State University of New York at Stony Brook University. Matthew Crennan (East Moriches, New York) is a vice president at BNB Bank in Hauppauge, where he serves as a business banking credit manager. Crennan has held numerous positions since he joined BNB Bank in 2012. He is a licensed mortgage loan originator and serves as a member of the Risk
Management Association Young Professionals and the Risk Management Association. Crennan holds a Bachelor’s degree from Clemson University where he was elected to Phi Kappa Tau and Phi Beta Kappa. Chris Lowenberg (Bay Shore, New York) works at Fuller Lowenberg & Co., CPAs, in Hauppauge, New York, where he provides accounting, auditing and taxation services to a diversified client base in a variety of industries including leasing, manufacturing, technology, real estate and distribution. Prior to joining Fuller Lowenberg in 2014, he worked at
KPMG, New York City, where he served as seniorin-charge on multiple audit engagements. Lowenberg graduated from James Madison University in Virginia with both a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting and a Master’s of Science in Accounting.
