day on February 14, but the unique history of Valentine’s Day and its association with February 14 as well as its romantic sentiments does not end there. The Library of Congress also notes that, in the Middle Ages, people believed birds selected their mates on February 14. As a result, it was not uncommon for lovers to recite prose to one another on this date.

Representatives Lee Zeldin (R, NY-01), Lauren Underwood (D, IL-14), Julia Brownley (D, CA-26), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R, PA01) introduced bipartisan legislation to eliminate cost barriers to COVID-19 vaccinations for veterans. The No Coronavirus Copays for Veterans Act ensures that veterans who receive health care from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) are not liable for outof-pocket costs for qualifying coronavirus preventive services, like COVID-19 vaccines. Companion legislation, led in the Senate by Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), will be introduced in the coming weeks. In March 2020, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which waived copays for qualifying items, services, or immunizations intended to prevent or mitigate coronavirus for Medicare beneficiaries and privately insured individuals. However, the CARES Act did not extend these protections

The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition (BBCC) was founded in 1993 by three friends who lived in Babylon. Determined to fight against breast cancer by raising awareness and educating women, the BBCC with their dedicated volunteers undertook the task of completing a demographic survey to ascertain the incidence of breast cancer in Babylon. From this, a volunteer driven grass-roots organization grew, which serves the entire Township of Babylon, including those with all gynecological cancers in addition to those with breast cancer. Today they provide direct patient services and support to help ease the burdens that breast and all gynecological cancers put on patients and their families/caregivers. In addition to assisting in the basic needs of those battling cancer, they also reach out to the community at large, providing educational programs to encourage healthier lifestyles, which would decrease the still very high instance of these cancers in our community. Please note, if you do not live in this township, you can still reach out to the BBCC to find out who in your area can be of help to you. The BBCC’s premier program is titled Lend a Helping Hand (LAHH). Since its inception in 1996, this unique patient service program provides much needed stress relief for breast cancer patients currently in treatment, as well as their families confronting diagnosis and ensuing treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation. Later on, the BBCC expanded the LAHH program to include Babylon Township women undergoing treatment for all types of gynecological cancers. Some of the services this program offers include house cleaning, transportation to/from medical appointments, financial

assistance, child care, massage therapy, meal preparation and more. If you or someone you know can benefit from the LAHH program, please visit the BBCC’s website for more information and to fill out the LAHH Application. The BBCC has multiple upcoming events that they would like everyone to know about, anyone can join! The Care Behind Your Care: This is a virtual webinar that will take place on February 11th at 6pm. Physicians from The Cancer Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital will host a “mock tumor board”, exhibiting the interdisciplinary approach to patient care. $20 per person includes a sherpa lined throw and tote bag! Online Psychic Night: Join others for a gallery style reading as Georgia Rose channels messages from the other side! This will be a virtual event on February 19th at 7pm. Registration is $20 and those who will attend have the opportunity to partake in a raffle with great prizes! Scavenger Hunt Bingo: Play 5 rounds of Bingo from home! This virtual event is only $10 per person, which includes your first Bingo card (extra cards are $5 each). There is lots of fun to be had in this unique experinece on February 25th at 7:15pm. Scout rank to Life Scout rank (final rank before the Eagle Scout rank) and were able to be given their merit badges (which they had earned via zoom meeting with Merit Badge Counselors or at at-a-distance in-person meetings with merit badge counselors). There were 18 rank advancements in Troop 343 and 44 merit badges presented. A special presentation was made to Dr. Stanly Lamberg, the Advancement Chairman for Troop 343, for his

Boy Scout Troop 343 (Hauppauge) held a Court of Honor on December 12 at a local park, where the scouts were recognized with rank advancements and merit badges that they had earned over the past several months. Troop 343 continues to meet weekly via zoom or at “in person troop meetings” (weather permitting) at the parking lot at St. Thomas More RC Church (the troop’s sponsor) in addition to participating in local day-trips, hikes, and instructions (as overnight camping trips are currently not possible due to the Covid shutdowns) It was the first opportunity since the COVID 19 shutdowns of in-person gatherings in March that the scouts were able to be recognized with their advancements in rank. They had earned advancements from the
