THINKING OF BUYING OR SELLING?
COVID-19 has impacted tens of thousands of Long Islanders, and many who have recovered from the virus are now combatting a variety of lingering health issues as a result. Known as “long-haulers” these individuals are living with the chronic effects of the virus that can include organ damage, poor lung function, fatigue, muscle aches, cognitive slowing and headaches. Also, longhaulers still exhibit various symptoms of COVID even after testing negative for the virus. “The long-lasting health effects of COVID-19 could affect anyone at any age, but appears to be more likely with those over the age of 50,” said Director of Infectious Disease at Catholic Health Service’s (CHS) St. Francis Hospital Alan M. Bulbin, M.D. “Those with other comorbidities, chronic illnesses or those who have had a more serious acute infection are also more likely to be impacted. But we have also seen younger patients show long-term health impacts after recovering from the virus.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said it is actively working to learn more about the range of shortand long-term health effects associated with
COVID-19. CDC officials said continued research is revealing that many organs, including the lungs and heart, are impacted by the virus. Dr. Bulbin recommends that medical treatment for long-haulers should be managed by an individual’s primary care physician. He said the challenge
currently facing doctors in treating those with longlasting health results from COVID-19 is identifying the proper treatment regimen. To help those dealing with long-term health effects of COVID-19, CHS’s St. Charles Hospital now offers a Post-COVID

Boy Scouts from Troop 125 Collect 1,207.2 lbs. of Food! By Troop 125 Historian, Wyatt Bode A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, courteous, kind, cheerful… Boy Scouts from Troop 125 were out in force on Sunday, November 8 participating in a call to service for a Thanksgiving time food drive. Canned and boxed goods were donated by community members, as the scouts requested donations from shoppers at Commack’s ShopRite (Crooked Hill Rd). An impressive 1,207.2 pounds were collected
that day. The food variety included staples such as soup, tuna, assorted canned vegetables and fruits, pasta, rice, olive oil, sauces and cereals. The food collected helped restock the shelves for the Commack United Methodist Church’s pantry. Much thanks go to all the members of the community who helped in this effort and participated in donating all the food. Boy Scout Troop 125 meets every Tuesday from 7:30-9:00pm at the Commack United
Methodist Church (486 Town Line Road, Commack) and is open to boys ages 11 through 18 residing in Commack, Dix Hills, East Northport, Kings Park, Smithtown and their surrounding communities. Due to Covid, the meetings are currently being conducted remotely until the weather warms up, but the Troop is planning bi-weekly outdoor activities which lend themselves to social COLLECTED 1,207.2 POUNDS OF FOOD - Boy Scout Troop 125 (Commack) distancing. with the collected 1,207.2 pounds of food for the Commack United Methodist Church’s food pantry. It was collected from 9am-3pm at the Commack’s ShopRite location, which “had only one exit this year which was different from years past.”
