The External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. EDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for EDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests. North Shore Rapid COVID-19 Testing Facility Moves In an effort to increase efficiency and ease of access of COVID-19 testing, Nassau County in partnership with Northwell Health has moved the North Shore drive-thru COVID-19 rapid testing facility to 600 Community Drive in Manhasset. The drive-thru rapid testing site will be open from 10 am to 3pm Monday through Friday. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 1-833-4CARENY (1-
833-422-7369). This COVID-19 testing is provided free regardless of insurance or immigration status. Testing will be open to Nassau County residents only and is by appointment only. Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce Celebrating Creativity: Creative Responses to Challenging Times a fine art exhibition featuring eighty-six works by fifty-one artists to be held through Dec. 19 at Mills Pond Gallery in St. James. Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti. Located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia, Pal-O-Mine grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week. This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with stateof-the-art footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances.They also offer group programs, individual lessons, corporate workshops and a program specifically designed for military members. Pal-O-Mine wants you to know just how they can help those who have served in our military, along with those who are still serving our nation. For more than four thousand years, horses have been an integral part of warfare. Today, horses are still playing an important role in war, this time in the recovery of military veterans who have suffered emotional and/ or physical injuries. Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is an EAGALA Designed Military Program.This designation asserts that EAGALA Certified Professionals working with the military have specialized training and experience in the military community. Sessions at the farm are action, not talk and they offer individual, group and family sessions. Pal-O-Mine offers programs to Verterans from Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan and for Service men and women who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom,
Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom and for Active Duty Service Members. It’s not always easy to ask for help, but the benefits of doing so outweigh the fear. One military member who received help from this organizaiton mentioned the following, “For someone in the military like me, it’s hard to swallow my pride and ask for help. This was a safe environment to open up in. HACO To Donate Holiday Meals Harborfields’ Alliance for Community Outreach, or HACO, has yet again taken initiative to donate holiday meals to those in need within the community this November. HACO, established in 2001 by Harborfields alumni and established as a 501c3 not-for-profit organization in 2009, is dedicated to providing families and their children with basic necessities of
food clothing and daily living essentials. With Thanksgiving around the corner, HACO members created a flyer to raise funds and nonperishable food items for donation. Every $20 donated provides all of the “Thanksgiving fixings,” including baked breads, desserts, pies and cookies, to a family in need. In addition to community donations,
Catherine Purcell’s high school mathematics class hosted their own food drive to help benefit those in need. As of Nov. 3, the team has collected more than $1,000 in donations. With the help of Mrs. Purcell’s class, the club hopes to reach its goal of providing more than 100 meals to Harborfields families this month.

As part of the week-long celebration, gift bags including a commemorative medal and a long sleeve T-Shirts were distributed to the entire staff. The shirts were emblazoned with an original “Courageous Hearts” design, created especially for the hospital by a local designer. EAGLE SCOUT CANDIDATE BRENDAN MURRAY OF TROOP 474 HOSTS BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE - (Left to right) Eagle Scout Candidate Brendan Murray of Troop 474 ran the “Back to School Supply Drive” for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He was recognized on October 20, 2020 for his community service project by Maureen Edwards and Jo Kerrigan from St. Anthony of Padua’s chapter of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. He was thanked by the members both for his service and his generous donation of $900.00, which was left over from his fund raising. The members estimated that the value of the school supplies he collected exceeded $7,000 and noted that it was the largest collection that they had ever seen. There were many extra school supplies remaining which were donated to other chapters of SVDP. All the backpacks with the school supplies were distributed to the students at St. Anthony of Padua’s Parish Outreach during August.
