High School Bound Eighth-graders in the Northport-East Northport School District celebrated their transition to the high school with family, friends, faculty members and administrators on June 20th and 21st at Northport High School. East Northport Middle School held their ceremony on the evening of June 20th, while Northport Middle School had their celebration on June 21st. During both ceremonies, the graduates entered the packed auditorium to “Pomp and Circumstance,” as proud family members looked on. After being seated, one student led the room in the Pledge of Allegiance. East Northport Middle School eighth-grader Alison Crosley performed the National Anthem, while Northport Middle School had their choraliers perform the “Star Spangled Banner” and “Over the Rainbow.” The performances followed by East Northport Middle School principal Pasquale DeStefano and Northport Middle School assistant principal Dr. Chelsea Brown commending the eighthgraders on their years as middle schoolers. Several graduates of East Northport Middle School received special awards during the ceremony for their community service, outstanding grades and determination. Northport Middle School students Sean Ryan, Alyssa Infranco and Isabella Anton reflected on their middle school experiences and shared their favorite memories as they move onto the high school. Each student walked across the stage and received a certificate of completion as their names were proudly announced. East Northport Middle School’s President of the National Junior Honor Society Megan DellaMarco and Northport Middle School Principal Timothy Hoss concluded the ceremonies, wishing the graduates all the best as they move onto their next academic journey – high school.

On Sunday, July 9th, the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra will finish off week two of the Summer Arts Festival! The Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra performs musical favorites from Broadway, television and the movies and a mixture of popular and light classical music. The Nassau Pops has performed with Marvin Hamlisch, singer/recording artist Linda Eder, songwriter Jimmy Webb, singer/ impressionist Marilyn Michaels, and The Cast of Beatlemania. Their
concert with tenor, Michael Amante, was seen nationwide and nominated for a New York Emmy Award. Maestro Louis Panacciulli has been the music director and conductor of The NPSO since 1984. All performances during the Summer Arts Festival are free and held on the Chapin Rainbow Stage in Heckscher Park, Huntington. The festival runs through August 13th. All performances begin at 8:30 p.m. unless it is a Tuesday evening because the “Family Series” events begin at 7:30 p.m. The Summer Arts Festival is produced by the Town of Huntington and presented by the Huntington Arts Council. dancers aged 59-87, who will perform with their usual sophistication and vivacity. The brilliant dancers of the Long Island Dance Company will perform their sensational cutting edge choreography and the talented dancers of North Shore Dance will delight the audience with their talent and boundless energy. * The Northport Community Band will also perform on Thursday, July 6th at the Robert W. Krueger Bandstand in Northport in the Northport Village Park at 8:30 p.m. Listeners can sit on blankets or lawn chairs in front of the bandstand, or even enjoy the music from their boats. The band’s musicians are volunteers from all walks of life and include local students, teachers and professional musicians. On Friday, July 7th, come experience Blick Bassy and his musical talent! Singer, composer, guitarist and Cameroonian percussionist, Blick Bassy formed his first band in Cameroon at the age of 17 called The Jazz Crew and would later develop into Macase, an inventive jazz fusion group inspired by local rhythms. After 10 years of performing with Macase, Blick grew frustrated with the lack of infrastructure for an artist in Cameroon and decided to move to Paris. It was there, in 2005, that Blick started his solo career, at first collaborating with a wide range of artists, before eventually releasing his debut album Léman (a record that fused West African and Central African rhythms) in 2009, and following it up with Hongo Calling (which was recorded in Brazil following Blick’s research into the musical link - mainly through slavery between Cameroon and Brazil) in 2011. His third album, Akö, Blick describes as “FAB” or “Folk Afro Blues” music. It’s a title which perfectly explains the roots of the music, though not hint at the inventiveness within. voices, and see the smiles on your faces, it really makes this all worthwhile,” Councilman Mark Cuthbertson said. Councilwoman Susan Berland added, “I wish everyone years of enjoyment. Please come here and utilize this park.” In their remarks, Supervisor Petrone and Council Members Cuthbertson and Berland singled out civic leader Alissa Taff and the Hindu organization Bochasanwasi Shree Akshar PurushottamNortheast (BAPS) for their crucial roles in bringing about the park. The park is the third element of an innovative, complex arrangement that saw the Town buy the land from the BAPS, which had originally proposed erecting a temple on the site. Under the agreement, the temple instead was built on a different site on Deshon Drive that also saw construction of The Club at Melville, a 261-unit affordable senior housing development. To make that happen, the development rights for the five acres to be used as passive parkland at Sweet Hollow Park were transferred to five acres of the 18-acre site on Deshon Drive that had been used by Newsday as

a preprint distribution warehouse and for its business operations. The Town Board changed the zoning on the 18-acre parcel from I1 Industrial to 3M Garden Apartment, a classification that allowed construction of The Club at Melvile, clustering that housing on 13 of the acres. The remaining five acres was sold to BAPS, which, using the development rights transferred from the Meyers Farm property it sold to the Town, built its temple there. Both the temple and the housing development have opened. In her remarks, Mrs. Taff, president of the Civic Association of Sweet Hollow, traced the 16year history of the efforts to create the park that began when the Town’s Open Space committee identified the Meyers Fam as a potential parkland site. “The dream has finally come through for Sweet Hollow and the BAPS,” she said. “Let’s enjoy, protect and keep Sweet Hollow Park as a wonderful, hard fought and cherished asset to our community and Huntington.” Speaking for the BAPS, Dr. Harshad Blatt noted advice the group had gotten from their guru during the process. “We called our guru, and told him, this is what is going on, that there are three different groups interested in building a park, a temple and a community. He told us three things. He said, one, there is never going to be any kind of court procedures; second, remember, in the joy of others, lies our own. And number three, always work in the community and in the families.”

Huntington Town officials and community residents joined June 21st in marking the official opening of Sweet Hollow Park, located on the former Meyers Farm in Melville. The $3.55 million park, which was sought by the community for many years, features elements based on input submitted by more than 70 residents, including bocce courts, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, a basketball court, adult exercise equipment, a children’s playground, game tables and picnic tables. The 8.4-acre parcel also includes five acres of passive parkland that contains a 2,275-foot walking trail. A committee is evaluating designs for a sculpture that will be placed in the park. “This is really something special today,” Supervisor Frank P. Petrone said in addressing a group of about 200 residents at the opening ceremony. “This was a real effort for all of us. So many years were spent on this, and so much effort. So many things took place that made this work…Look at what we have here: It’s a real showplace for the Town of Huntington and for this great community. And this is your park.” “When I see the children on the swings, and their

Of Summer Memories and Staycations Summer is upon us, officially, and for some that means making a getaway to tropical islands, upstate resorts or seaside chalets; essentially, anywhere but here. For me, I look at this season of warmth and sunshine as a perfect opportunity to enjoy all that Long Island has to offer. Home sweet home, indeed. Our little neck of the woods certainly has no shortage of pristine beaches, whether you prefer the smooth sand and surf of the south shore, or the seashell-encrusted terrain of the north shore. From the North Fork wineries, to the South Fork shopping hamlets, there is literally something for everyone to enjoy. Personally, I have always been a big fan of the “staycation.” Throw in a day trip to Manhattan or any of the boroughs, and you can literally travel from coast to coast over a four-day weekend and never run out of sights to see. No matter how many times I’ve visited the Fire
Island Lighthouse, the Montauk Lighthouse or any number of tourist attractions in New York City, I always find a new angle to appreciate, a slightly different perspective to photograph. Of course, with a holiday such as the 4th of July, it’s always nice to view a few fireworks. With rare exception, this has generally meant sitting out on the deck in hopes that the neighbors had managed to obtain some sparkly explosives, or, if it wasn’t too crowded, taking a ride down to the local town beach to view the show from across the Bay. One year, a friend and I were inspired to check out the annual show at Eisenhower Park. After realizing that we should have probably allowed more time, resorting to parking on the side of Hempstead Turnpike and then wandering aimlessly around the park after having somehow missed the main entrance - we arrived. Or so we thought. We had literally walked into what was the staging setup for

the fireworks show. Talk about a front row seat. After hurriedly realizing this was not, in fact, the viewing area, we wound up walking/running what seemed like miles, following the distant sounds of explosions, until we came upon the rest of the crowd, who had most likely gotten there hours before. As we set up our blanket and settled down to watch what remained of the show, there was one final burst of color in the sky. And then… silence. The end. And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the first and last “real” fireworks show I have ever attended. A priceless memory nonetheless, one that is fondly reflected upon whenever the holiday nears. Here’s hoping everyone has a safe summer and enjoys whatever adventures it may bring. Just remember, you need not travel far to see beautiful sights… and make beautiful - if not brief - memories.

Hats Off to the Class of 2017 their rendition of “Fields of Gold” by Sting. Special guest New York State Senator Chuck Schumer addressed the Class of 2017 and offered his own advice to the graduates. He encouraged them to “go for it,” as they move into the unknown and stressed that they have the assets to do great things in life. Salutatorian Sarah Aboldalo approached the podium to thank the faculty members, administrators and Board members for helping shape her and her fellow peers into the individuals they are today, comparing their experiences high school to puzzle pieces in their lives. In addition, Danbusky also addressed the Class of 2017, adding humor and guidance into his speech. “Every door is open to you now,” he said. “Your memories of your time here will echo in your minds and your heart for the rest of your lives. The impact that you have made as a class has furthered our reputation as a prominent educational institution, promoting excellence in all areas.”
Following his address, board of education members presented the diplomas to the Class of 2017. Graduates were congratulated by Banzer and Danbusky as they made their way off the stage. Valedictorian Cybele Laisney concluded the ceremony, reflecting on a recent family hiking trip that she took and taking what she learned on her journey to inspire her fellow classmates. “The decisions that we make don’t need to be monumental,” she said. “They could be as simple as going left on a trail that was meant to go right. From this small decision, this small chance, you may find that your life will become more worthwhile and perhaps you will find new meaning.” The graduates then conducted the tassel change to symbolize their completion of high school and with their loved ones looking on, proudly exited the auditorium to the Graduation Honor Band’s rendition of the “Grand March.”

Dressed in green and white cap and gowns, Harborfields High School seniors made their way across the high school gymnasium and received their diploma on June 24th. The celebration, which traditionally takes place outdoors, was based inside due to inclement weather but did not dampen the spirits of the proud graduates. Family members, friends, staff, board members and administrators gathered for the momentous occasion which marked the end of an era for retiring Board President Nicholas Giuliano and a first for Harborfields High School Principal Timothy Russo and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Francesco Ianni. The stands of the high school gymnasium were filled with anticipated guests as the graduates made their entrance to “Pomp and Circumstance” by Sir Edward Elgar, played by the high school band. The ceremony kicked off with the Pledge of Allegiance, a performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” from the senior members of the high school choir and the Alma Mater.
Russo welcomed those in attendance and Dr. Ianni addressed the graduates. During his speech, he gave special recognition to the board president for his commitment to the board of education for the past 15 years. “Mr. Giuliano, this is your class,” he said. “The students that you see in front of you were in Washington Drive Primary School when you started and they were the direct recipients of the many decisions that you and the board made during your time at Harborfields. What you have in front of you is one of the best graduating classes that Harborfields has to offer.” Russo also commended him for his consistent direction and support in the district. He proudly presented him with the first diploma of the ceremony. Salutatorian Ishaan Lohia addressed his fellow graduates and offered a humorous speech about his high school experience and what he learned over the years, while class president Sean Tully wished his classmates the best of luck in their future endeavors. In addition, valedictorian
Casandra Moisanu spoke to the Class of 2017, reflecting back on their high school years, their outlook for the future and the strong connections made within the graduating class. “I want everyone to remember that no matter where we end up, we are still an HF Family,” she said. “I know we would all like to see each other succeed and I trust that we will be there for each other in the future.” Voted on by the graduates, featured speaker and social studies teacher Daniel Greening offered his best wishes, while Russo shared his own praises and encouragement. To leave the students with something to hold onto, Russo gifted each of them with an evergreen tree to help them remember their roots. One by one, board members presented diplomas to each graduate as their name was proudly announced and Russo shook their hands in congratulations. At the conclusion of the ceremony, green and white caps filled the air in unison as the high school band played the graduates out into the next chapter of their lives.

The packed auditorium stood as the graduates entered to “Pomp and Circumstance.” Class president Connor Widmaier led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the National Anthem performed by the Northport High School Choirs under the direction of teachers Nicholas Hart and Ellen McCarthy. Preparing Fellow Students In an effort to educate and prepare the incoming fifth-graders at James H. Boyd Intermediate School, eight current fifthgraders hosted a leadership presentation on June 19th to share information and answer student questions. The student speakers were part of a leadership committee program whose goal is to help fourth-graders learn from the experiences of fifthgraders to create a smooth transition into next year. Consisting of fifth-graders Ryan Andersen, Jenna Ban, Briana Ebinger, James
Froh, Krish Ishanna, Meghan McGowan, Sean O’Grady and John Ouglaalou, the students had about eight weeks to prepare for the event. They devoted one hour of their time each week to write their speeches, type their speeches and practice their public speaking skills. Fourth-graders arrived to the presentation with notebooks in hand and took notes on what to expect, including useful tips that the speakers provided. The fifth-graders discussed topics such as how to succeed in school,
studying and homework tips, best behavior, time management, how to stay organized and the new experiences that the fourth-graders can expect. At the conclusion of presentation, the fifth-graders answered questions that the fourthgraders had. They spoke about locker sharing, project difficulties, field trips, subjects taught and offered their best advice to the fourth-graders in hopes that their transition to fifth-grade would be a successful one.

Retirees Honored Councilwoman Susan A. Berland presented Town of Huntington Proclamations to the retirees of Half Hollow Hills High School East at their retirement celebration: Nannette Armenti taught Mathematics at Hills East for 18 years and spent 28 years in education. Roberta Dormani taught Special Education, served as School Treasurer at Hills East for 15 years and spent 40 years in education. Jean Dougherty taught Special Education at Hills East for 29 years and spent 34 years in education.
Donna Miceli was a Library Media Specialist at Hills East for 19 years and spent 20 years in education. Leslee Nickel was a School Psychologist at Hills East for 35 years and spent 37 years in education. Patricia Sargent was a Secretary at Hills East for all of her 33 years in education. Susan Tiglitz taught Health at Hills East for 15 years and spent 23 years in education. “I was proud to honor this year’s retirees at
Lahey Elementary School principal and retiree Marguerite Greene. He praised her for her dedication and service to the students in the district. Greene was one out of 16 retirees that were honored during the evening. Other retirees included Gregory Adams, Donna Basile, Maria D’Amore, Patricia DeMarinis, Linda Espey, Claire Flynn, Phyllis Hoar, Sharon Kiefaber, Ellen Macrae, Nicholas Maravell, Dale Melchior, Loretta Motz, Bonnie Robertson, Kimberly Shineman and Rita Vita. Each were thanked by their school principal for their positive impact on the students’ in the district. In addition, Board of Education Service Awards were presented to faculty members, administrators
and community members who have gone above and beyond in the district. The Teacher Award was presented to Harborfields High School science teacher Keith McInnes and Washington Drive Primary School social worker Anna Zaharia and the Custodial Staff Award was given to Oldfield Middle School custodian Joey Rice. Three Community Member Awards were presented to Mary Seligmann, Deborah and Frank Stolba and Linda White. The evening took place in the Oldfield Middle School auditorium where refreshments were served. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Francesco Ianni welcomed those in attendance for coming to the special evening. “Special nights like this give us the opportunity to reflect on what we have done to enrich the lives of the many children in this district that all of you have impacted,” said Dr. Ianni. To kick off the retiree recognitions, Dr. Ianni Half Hollow Hills High called up Thomas J. School East with Town of Huntington Proclamations in recognition of their years of loyal and dedicated service to the students and faculty at High School East,” stated Councilwoman Susan A. Berland. “I want to thank Hills East Principal Dr. Jeffery Woodberry for all of the good work he and the entire staff do for the students of High School East and I wish all of the honorees much happiness in their retirement.”

the scouting program by earning the Tiger Cub Macabee, Cub and Webelos Scout Aleph, and Boy Scout Ner Tamid and Etz Chaim emblems while being a registered Boy Scout. In observance of the 12th point of the Scout Law, Life Scout Dylan Feldman and Eagle Scout/Junior Assistant Scoutmaster Brian Trifon of Troop 403 (Commack) were presented with their Talmud Torah Emblems on June 18th at Boy Scout Troop 403 (Commack)’s Troop Court of Honor, held at their weekly meeting place at the Christ Lutheran Church (Burr Road and Larkfield Ave, East Northport). Presented by North East Region JCOS Committee Chairman Bruce Streger and Jewish Committee member Alan Morris (also Scoutmaster of Troop 403), Scouts Feldman and Trifon were presented with
a medal and a certificate for having earned all four of the religious emblems while being a registered Scout. The scouts are the 5th and 6th recipients of the Tamid Torah Emblem nationwide (and the 3rd ,and 4th in Suffolk County Council BSA) since it was first presented in 2012. Eagle Scout Brian Trifon, who has earned two Eagle Palms during his tenure with Boy Scout Troop 403 and also serves as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, is the son of Assistant Scoutmaster Marty and Committee Chair Debbie Trifon, and older brother to Girl Scout Amanda Trifon of Troop 889 (Melville). Life Scout Dylan Feldman is the son of Assistant Scoutmaster Steven and Stacey Feldman and older brother of Girl Scout Madison Feldman of Troop 872 (Commack).
As part of her “Keep Huntington Beautiful” campaign, Councilwoman Susan A. Berland hosted her annual beach cleanup at Centerport Beach and flower planting at the Senior Beach House. Joining Councilwoman Berland were members of the Huntington Youth Council, Girl Scout Troop 334, Starbucks District Manager Greta Case and volunteers from Starbucks in East Northport and other community-spirited volunteers. Starbucks on Jericho Turnpike in East Northport provided coffee for the volunteers prior to the
clean-up. Afterwards, all of the volunteers were treated to pizza courtesy of Jonny D’s Pizza of Greenlawn and Jimmy’s Pizza in Centerport. “All of the volunteers did such a great job cleaning the beach and planting flowers at the Centerport Senior Beach House,” said Councilwoman Susan A. Berland. “The Town of Huntington is fortunate to have beautiful beaches and I greatly appreciate all of the volunteers for helping to maintain them. I want to thank Lars Olsen and Adam Ahl from the Town of Huntington Department of Maritime Services,
Greta Case and Starbucks in East Northport for providing coffee and bringing volunteers, Ray Dawson and Jonny D’s Pizza of Greenlawn and Kyle Hallberg and Jimmy’s Pizza in Centerport for donating delicious pizza for our volunteers, members of the Huntington Youth Council, Girl Scout Troop 334, the Town of Huntington Senior Center and all of the volunteers for helping to beautify Centerport Beach, plant flowers at the Senior Beach House and for their commitment to Keeping Huntington Beautiful.”
Education Scholarships At a recent Scholarship Awards Ceremony held at Teachers Federal Credit Union headquarters in Hauppauge, Robert G. Allen, CEO/President of TFCU, presented four $2,500 TFCU scholarships and two New York Credit Union Association (NYCUA) scholarships in the amounts of $1,500 and $500, to local graduating high school seniors. TFCU, one of the largest credit union in the country, has had a long-standing education scholarship program to support and encourage Long Island students within the communities the credit union serves. The following graduating high school seniors are the recipients of $2,500 TFCU scholarships: Justin Laucella of Deer Park, a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington who plans to attend St. John’s University and study Homeland Security; Kevin Frank Cutinella of Wading River, a graduate of Shoreham-Wading River High School who plans to attend University of Massachusetts Amherst and study Business; Siobhan Murray of Bay Shore, a graduate of
Brentwood High School who plans to attend Johnson & Wales University and study Health Sciences; Kevin G. Slattery of Smithtown, a graduate of Smithtown High School-West who plans to attend Quinnipiac University
and study Communications. The $1,500 New York Credit Union Association scholarship was presented to Philip Tubiolo of Bayport,
a graduate of Bayport-Blue Point High School who plans to attend Stony Brook University and study Biomedical Engineering. Outstanding Staff During the Elwood Union Free School District’s Board of Education meeting on June 15th, the board recognized 14 staff members who were awarded tenure, while also honoring the 20162017 retirees and 25 year employees. Administrators, faculty members and their families attended the commendations in the Elwood Middle School auditorium. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Bossert opened the meeting by congratulating those being honored that evening for their dedication and service to the district and introduced the first tenure recipients who are administrators in the district. Those that received tenture included Assistant Superintendent for Business Keri Loughlin, Harley Avenue Primary School Principal Elissa Millan, James H. Boyd Intermediate School Principal Dr. Denise Toscano and Elwood Middle School Assistant Principal Dawn Valle. The principals of each school then presented a plaque to their teachers and teachning assistants who also received tenure. These included teachers Moiro Citko, Jessica
Hasday, Shanna LaBarbera, Sima Lis, Megan Riley, Lisa Rosenthal, Danielle Sullivan, Jennifer Vacchio and teaching assistants Maria Gagliardi and Kelsie Wilkinson. Retirees were praised by their fellow administrators for their positive impact on the students and school community. Those recognized were Lee Anderson, Nancy Barkocy, Noreen Driscoll, Ann Gengenbach, Christine Graber, David Heiss, Susan Masserwick, Denise Preto, Cynthia Smith, Donna Verton, Linda Wilson, Carol Yamond and Marcia Zatulskis. Faculty members Jan Fairchild, Anthony Gallo, Michael Marino, Darren Szokoli and David Trabulsi were presented with trophies for their 25 years of service in the district. Each were congratulated by the board and administrators for their hard work and dedication for so many years. In addition, Elwood Middle School Principal Dr. Hugh Gigante was commended for his leadership at the school as he will leave to take on his new position at Western Suffolk BOCES. “We congratulate you on your new position, as we know it is a career
aspiration for you,” said Dr. Bossert. “But we are saddened of your departure because of your profound positive impact on Elwood Middle School over the last seven years.” Board of Education President Michael LaMena was also recognized as it was his last meeting serving on the board. Board Vice President Julia Fried thanked Mr. LaMena for his dedication to the district. “He is commited to a focused process which has proven to unite the board this year and has made for a very successful transition for our new superintendent,” said Ms. Fried. “Mike, we will miss your calm leadership but we are grateful for the time you served on the board. We are all better for it.” The final two recognitions were for district clerk Nancy Mancini, who will retire from her role with the board and transition into her new role in transportation and technology, as well as incoming Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior Joseph Pacifico, who was commended for his assistance with the webcast broadcasting of the board of education meetings throughout the school year.
Sharing New Skills Harley Avenue Primary School second-graders presented their newly found skills at their 2nd GEAR Showcase on June 15th. The eight week 2nd GEAR program allowed the students to choose a faculty member’s club to participate in as an opportunity to learn something of interest to them. GEAR, which stands for Grade Enrichment and
Recreation, gave students the freedom to pick from 13 different clubs back in April. After speaking with family members, each student had the opportunity to pick their favorite four clubs. They filled out a ballot and were guaranteed one of their top choices. Each week, the clubs met as a group and learned their new skills. Some of the clubs featured were
Act it Out, Flower Power, DASH into Coding, So You Think You Can Dance, Save Our Species, Fitness Fanatics and Peace, Love and Yoga. During the showcase, the club participants took the stage and shared what they learned with their peers. Presentations ranged from yoga instruction, to American Sign Language to dancing and singing.

James H. Boyd Intermediate School in the Elwood Union Free School District has recently been selected to receive a 2017 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant from The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. The $5,000 grant will allow the school to begin building a Makerspace to enhance learning opportunities for students. The foundation offers the grant each year to K-12 public schools across the nation to provide community support for basic educational needs. The grant application, submitted by teachers Liz
Held and Krista Albrecht, was for their project idea, “If You Build it, They Will Come.” The project focuses on creating a space where students can learn through hands on activities and building. The mission of the makerspace will be to encourage curiosity, tinkering and learning, while inspiring students to invent new things, continually question how processes happen and how inventions can be improved. Ms. Albrecht and Ms. Held plan to purchase items such as Lego kits, tablets, a green screen studio, and storage
containers for student projects to incorporate into the space. “We were thrilled to learn that we won the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant to begin creating a Makerspace at Boyd,” said Ms. Albrecht. “We are always looking for innovative ways to fund ideas for our students. Incorporating science and technology, and discovering ways to solve problems is so important. If this Makerspace at Boyd can help students become better thinkers, then we are on the right track!”

Seniors Say Goodbye It was a bittersweet day for the graduating seniors of Elwood-John H. Glenn High School as they returned to their old elementary schools on June 19th for the
district’s first Senior Walk. The graduates stopped by Harley Avenue Primary School and James H. Boyd Intermediate School to walk the halls in their
cap and gowns and say goodbye to the district they grew up in. Faculty members and students at both schools lined the hallways in anticipation
as the seniors arrived. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth Bossert, administrators and board members also joined in the celebration and watched
as the graduates walked the buildings. Many embraced their former teachers and high-fived the young students who cheered them on. The district looks to
continue this newly found tradition for years to come to celebrate the growth and the next chapter in the lives of its graduates.
