I am thankful for my mom and dad. They are the water and sunlight to my plant. They’re the only true role models in my life. They pay the bills, put food in my stomach, and put clothes on my back. They are the most important things in my life. I am thankful for my mom. She is the star in my galaxy. She turned me into the nice gentlemen I am today. She fought through mental illness
two times. She taught how to act respectfully around people she puts in charge of me. She is the main reason I love to be alive. Also, if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be in Pal football. I wouldn’t be able deal with my grandfather’s recent trip to the E.R. I wouldn’t be able to keep going in life. Those are many reasons I am thankful for my mom. I am thankful for my dad. He’s the anchor in our ship. My dad makes
sure that the family is stable. He taught me how to defend myself, to ride a bike, and to be safe on the Internet. He makes me happy when I’m depressed. Also, he tells me what my dead grandfather expected of me. He taught me to be respectful to him and to the elderly. He gives donations to foundations for breast cancer and autism. Those are reason why I’m thankful for my dad.

Life is destined to have its fair share of sadness; all we can do is try to minimize the regrets along the way.
Imagine how you would like to be treated, and do your best to emulate that in your interactions with others. It’s the simplest of concepts, really, but its effects are far-reaching. The most important thing is to appreciate those moments – the ones that stay with you – right then, while they are happening. You just never know when it might be the last opportunity. Such is the bittersweet nature of life; the great unknown. May we all be so fortunate to have memories worth treasuring along the way.
Each year, the Harborfields High School’s Theatre Company puts on a special performance of their spring musical for local senior citizens prior to the show’s opening night. This year, the talented cast and crew brought to the stage their production of “Anything Goes.” Prior to the performance on April 13th, the Harborfields PTA and central administration jointly sponsored a dessert reception for the senior citizens. Dressed in sailor hats and handkerchiefs,
the jazz band performed and members of the National Honor Society helped the seniors enter raffles to win gift cards to local businesses and restaurants. “Anything Goes” is set aboard the S. S. American, where nightclub singer Reno Sweeney is in route to England. Her love struck friend Billy Crocker sneaks onto the ship to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining the triangle loveboat are Public Enemy

Suffolk County Community College students Amie Bernstein and Elisandra Fini have been named one of the top 20 two-year college students in the nation as a member of the 2016 All-USA Community College Academic Team. The competition included more than 1,900 nominees from more than 1,000 community colleges across the U.S. and evaluated students on grades, leadership, activities and their contributions outside of the classroom. The pair were recognized with fellow team members during the American Association of Community Colleges national convention in Chicago, IL on April 12th. Bernstein and Fini will each receive a $5,000 scholarship. Amie Bernstein, a liberal
arts and psychology major, from Holbrook, with a 3.7 grade point average, serves as the International vice president for Division I of Phi Theta Kappa and was a former chapter and regional president. Amie hopes to transfer to Indiana University in Bloomington or the University of Mississippi to study Psychology. Elisandra Fini, a chemical dependency counseling major, from Huntington, with a 4.0 grade point average serves as vice-president of Phi Theta Kappa, and is a Get There From Here Scholar. Elisandra hopes to transfer to St. Joseph’s College to pursue a B.A. in Adolescent Education. “This is an outstanding achievement for Elisandra and Amie,” Suffolk County Community College
President Dr. Shaun L. McKay said. “It’s a true testament of the quality of a Suffolk County Community College education.” “We are extremely proud of our students,” said Suffolk County Community College Board of Trustees Chair Theresa Sanders. “The All USA award and scholarships are recognition of extraordinary accomplishment and outstanding promise for the future.” The All-USA program is sponsored by Follett Higher Education Group and presented by USA TODAY with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.

As I often do when beset with burdens, I took to the wharf down by the bay To view the choppy waters have their way. Five minutes passed, and my concerns began to fade; Nature had spun its magic, majestic and unafraid. Soon I noticed people in cars surround me, Sharing this comfort the scene implored. It’s nice to know there are others Eager to find a moment like this And take the time to explore. Refreshed and encouraged, I began to take my leave, And in the rearview mirror the scene began to fade; But the choice to come was a choice well made.
