Sprinkle evenly with the pecan topping. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with a few crumbs attached. Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

The competition consists of a round robin model,
including multiple choice and short answer questions, and is followed by a single elimination final round. Even though the team did not advance to the nationals, they did an outstanding job. “We came so close to the final round,” Mr. Kamhi said. “It was a great performance by all the students that were involved. Northport Early Childhood Program Lottery Open
Northport High School’s Early Childhood Education program has 16 available openings for the 2-YearOld Toddler Program for the 2020-21 school year. The district will be holding a lottery for NorthportEast Northport residents to fill these spots. Each toddler will be paired with a student from Northport’s Family and Consumer Science class, where students will be studying toddler development twice
a week. The goal of the program is to introduce the children to a classroom environment, provide opportunity for them to learn to separate from their caregivers, and interact with their peers. In order to qualify for this program, toddlers must be 2 years of age on or before Dec. 31, 2020 and families must be residents of the Northport-East Northport School District. There is
no cost for the program. For interested families, the completed Lottery Application Form is due by April 24. Long Island Community Hospital has announced that the Knapp Family COVID-19 Health Crisis Challenge has awarded a $500,000 matching grant made possible by the Knapp-Swezey Foundation, Island Outreach Foundation and Gardener Foundation to help raise vital funding for the community hospital in their fight against COVID-19. “I’m extremely grateful and proud to announce this new initiative from the Knapp Family, valued members of our LI Community Hospital family, that will greatly enhance our ability to fight COVID-19 right here in our community,” said Richard T. Margulis, President and Chief Executive Officer at LI Community Hospital. The Knapp Family will match every donation, dollar for dollar up to $500,000 to directly purchase precious personal protective equipment (PPE), supplies, equipment and other items necessary to keep our healthcare professionals safe during this pandemic. These purchases are ongoing and include masks, gowns, eyewear and other protective gear in high demand. “Our families’ collaborative battle cry is ‘if not now, when?’ Your donations are protecting those who are saving lives in our community. People you know; your family members, friends and acquaintances. She presented Webelos Cub Scout Ian Loring of Pack 312 (East Northport) with his emblem (a medal on a ribbon) and a certificate recognizing his efforts. A purple and silver “scouting religious emblem knot” had already been sewn onto his uniform, as Scout Loring had previously been recognized with this accomplishment at his Pack Night in May, 2019. This was the second Jewish Cub Scout religious emblem that he had earned – he had previously been recognized with the Maccabee Emblem in 2017.

There were 23 Scouts, Scouters, and family members in attendance at the annual Jewish Committee on Scouting, Suffolk County Council (Scouts of America) Awards and Recognitions Breakfast on March 1, 2020, hosted by Temple Beth Chai, Hauppauge, Long Island. The opening flag ceremony was led by all the scouts present, who carried small American Flags. Bruce Streger of the SCC JCOS and member of the National and Northeast Region JCOS led all in God Bless America, Hatikvah and gave the invocation. JCOS Chair Barry Kopeloff welcomed everyone and introduced the dignitaries. Mr. Steger and Mr. Kopeloff presented updates and information about the Jewish Chapel at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp, which is used for Scout Sabbath Services at every Friday evening during the week long summer camp experiences) as well as discussion of the June 2020 annual JCOS Conclave (scouting retreat) camping weekend.

North Shore Animal League America Conducting Adoptions By Appointment Only Essential Staff Providing Care For Animals On Campus Amid Coronavirus (Covid19) Pandemic North Shore Animal League America’s Adoption Center is currently conducting adoption by appointment only. Our Adoption Team is contacting pre-approved adopters with a scheduled day and time to complete their adoption. The health and wellbeing of NSALA staff, volunteers, adopters, and the community remains our priority at this time. We currently have over 40 dogs of various ages and sizes on campus, as well as more than 100 felines, from kittens to older cats, all looking for loving homes. As always, the animals on the NSALA Port Washington campus are being well-cared for by our devoted staff. In addition to finding homes for more than 110 canines, some of whom were from our recent Mill Dog rescue (we saved 100 dogs and puppies from deplorable
conditions with some going to our area shelter partners,) we have also placed more than 30 animals into foster homes. During this time, the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center will remain open to see sick patients and emergency cases only. While we are doing adoptions by appointment, NSALA’s Adoption Center is temporarily closed to the general public in accordance with New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo’s statewide directives and to control the number of people in the Adoption Center at any one time. How Does The New Coronavirus Affect You And Your Pets?
Pet owners can rest easy that there is no reason to believe that dogs or cats in the United States might be a source of infection for the new coronavirus disease — COVID-19 — or cause its spread according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. And so far, according to the CDC, there have been no reports of pets becoming sick with COVID-19. This coronavirus appears to be primarily transmitted from human to human. As a pet owner, you may have heard of canine coronavirus, an intestinal infection in dogs, especially puppies, and feline coronavirus, which can cause feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). These types of coronaviruses have been around for quite some time and are not associated with the current outbreak. To protect yourself, your family, and possibly even
your pets, from this new coronavirus, you should follow these precautions: • Frequently wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water (use hand sanitizer with more than 60 percent alcohol if you can’t wash) • Avoid close contact with people who are sick—stay at least three feet away • Cover your mouth/ nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw away the used tissues and wash your hands • Stay at home if you are sick • Sanitize often-used surfaces in your home and office If you do become sick with COVID-19, how then should you care for your pet? The CDC recommends that you restrict contact with pets and other animals just as you would with people. Ask another member of your
household to care for your pets while you are sick. If you must do it yourself, wash your hands before and after you interact and wear a facemask. Rainy, cloudy skies didn’t stop Bellerose Avenue and Ocean Avenue Elementary School families from showing their school pride on April 3 as cars paraded down streets with messages of hope and
positivity painted on the windows. Drivers and passengers waved from their cars to students anxiously waiting at the ends of their driveways to catch a glimpse of their teachers.
Students held signs that read “We miss you,” and “We’re in this together.” It was a wonderful display of school and community spirit.
