In the 1640s, the Halsey family began farming in the Water Mill and Bridgehampton area. Today, their family farm tradition continues as Milk Pail Fresh Market & U-Pick, which is run by both Amy and Jennifer Halsey. Both Amy and Jennifer received agricultural educations and returned to the farm after college. Amy manages the retail store, helps design gardens, custom designs planters and more. Jenn is on the farm growing the crops. She once had even been named New York Young Farmer of the Year by the New York State Farm Bureau and proudly represented her state at the national finals held in Texas. At their farm they grow apples, peaches, pumpkins, blueberries, pears and table grapes. Many value-added products are made from their produce, including fresh apple cider, apple cider donuts, apple and pumpkin pies and more. With the help of their dedicated staff, this family farm continues many traditions, while also trying new ideas to grow the business! Running a farm is no easy task, but Amy and Jennifer make it seem so! Visit their farm for a great experience on the East End.
Rhonda Klch is the Executive Director and Founder of Equity First, which was formed in 2004. This organization provides financial education, literacy and best practices to the community at low or no cost. Financial decisions are based on emotional scenarios, often times leading to clients making poor choices and decisions in regards to their future. Equity First creates and implements an approved client plan until the desired result is achieved. Their programs include money management, budget reviews, financial well check, credit restoration, debt settlement, bankruptcy consulting, loss mitigation services and more. Each service is paired with ongoing consultations to ensure a thorough understanding of timelines, expectations and benchmarks. Rhonda and her team are making an incredible impact in the Long Island community. In addition to financially assisting others, during the pandemic they have also given locals in need food, gift cards, personal hygiene products and more.
Lisa Gatti is the Founder and CEO of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian and the mother of her 13 year old daughter, who is the pride and joy of her life. Her passion for horses and teaching began at a very young age. In college, she was the captain of the equestrian team and she graduated with a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. She has supplemented her education throughout the years by taking other educational programs. In 1996 and 2000, Lisa was named as US Team Leader for the US Equestrian Paralympic Team in Atlanta, Georgia and Sydney, Australia. From 2008-2013 Lisa served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAGALA, the global standard for equine assisted psychotherapy and personal development. In 2015, Lisa was named to the Board of Autism Communities. Most recently in 2019, she was appointed to the Town of Islip Disability Advisory Committee to help local government identify the most crucial issues facing our special needs population. She was honored with the 2020 Woman of Distinction and Distinguished Service Award from The Town of Islip, is a current finalist for the Imagine Awards for the Leadership Excellence Category and just received the 2021 Circle Of Excellence Award from the Long Island Business News. Throughout the pandemic, she still sees the greatness around her everyday and believes that when we see it in others, we know it, and when we trust its presence in ourselves, we embody it.
Eileen Scanlon has been a NYS Licensed Cosmetologist for 30 years. She has worked with Corporate America, Non Profits, Academia and local grass-roots organizations. Ten years ago, she started Scanlon’s Traveling Salon. This heart centered business helps seniors, the home confined and vulnerable, Hospice, group homes, assisted living communities, those that are differently abled, and virtually everyone in between, look and feel better. Scanlon’s Traveling Salon brings hair services directly to their client’s residence and Eileen’s goal has always been to provide each and every one of her clients with a warm, positive, and empathetic experience before, during and after each visit. Also, Eileen incorporates her love of social justice and advocacy into her business practice by using only socially responsible, vegan and environmentally friendly products. Scanlon’s Traveling Salon provides kindness, compassion and professionalism to people all over Long Island. Eileen’s motto is “A smile is the closest distance between two people.”

T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. Did you know that senior citizens are the fastest growing population in the world? The number of Americans 65 and older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Michael, a Plainview resident. Michael wished for a record player and vinyl records. The Twilight Wish Foundation happily granted his wish, and as far as the records go, he received two of his favorites! Michael had worked in insurance and took an early train into the city every morning, returning home late at night. By the time he retired, he was ready for senior living accommodations. However, retirement did not stop his desire to volunteer. Prepandemic he worked closely to help people who were lower functioning/ had dementia. During the pandemic,

Obituary Frank A. Heinrich, a longtime resident of Massapequa, LI., died March 12, 2021 at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. He was 93 years old. Frank was born on July 11, 1927 in Astoria, Queens to Frank J. and Gertrude (Koeppler) Heinrich. He was a proud World War II veteran serving his country with distinction. Frank was employed by G Miltope Corporation in Melville, LI. As an Electronic Engineer. He was an active member of First
United Methodist Church, Amityville where he served as a reader during worship services. He was energetic and was always willing to assist in any project requiring his expertise. Frank was predeceased by two spouses, Joan (Brede) Heinrich in January 1987 and Alvina (Gritmon) Heinrich in March 1992. Survivors include his daughters Bonnie J. Heinrich-Goess (the late John Goess) and Betsy J. Healey (Philip); nine (9) grandchildren and two (2) great grandchildren.
Cremation was private and a private memorial service was conducted at the funeral home by the Reverend Cecile Koppmann of First United Methodist Church. Interment of Mr. Heinrich’s cremated remains was in LI National Cemetery. Donations in Frank’s memory may be made to First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 25 Broadway, Amityville, New York 11701. Arrangements were under the direction of Powell funeral Home, Inc., Amityville, New York.
Northport High School Certifies Students In CPR For Northport-East Northport seventh, 10th and 12th graders, getting certified in CPR is not only encouraged, but required. The certification course, which has been provided since 2018 in the district, is part of the students’ physical education requirements. It is provided with the hope that in the event CPR needs to be performed, students will feel prepared for the possibility of saving a life. Students in both grades take the CPR certification course regardless of which physical education program they are enrolled in. The course, which consists of students learning CPR compressions and how to use an AED defibrillator, would ensure each student is certified both during and for at least two years after high school. Northport High School Physical Education Teacher Sean Lynch stated that the hope is that students will continue to continue to get recertified even after they graduate and into their adult lives. Mr. Lynch also shared that when describing the importance of the course to students, they reference past tragedies in which lives may have been saved had someone known how to perform CPR or use a defibrillator. “By talking to
students honestly and about real-life situations that could occur, I think that has really helped them understand just how important this course is. Most, if not all, have taken it extremely seriously.”
He added “No matter their profession in the future, we hope students make a point to get recertified so they have the ability to save someone’s life.”

Return Of Bethpage Air Show At Jones Beach State Park Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced the Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park will return this Memorial Day weekend after a one-year absence. The outdoor show, sponsored by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, features a range of military and civilian aerial performers. This year’s show will be a ticketed event, with reduced capacity and social distancing measures in place to ensure a safe return of the patriotic Long Island beachfront tradition. “As we continue to see progress in our fight against COVID and cautiously reopen our state, we can look forward to enjoying more and more outdoor adventures this summer - including the annual Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach State Park,” Governor Cuomo said. “With safety measures in place, New Yorkers and visitors can get back to enjoying all that Jones Beach and Long Island State Parks have to offer, and this annual festival is a great way to get outdoors and support the regional Long Island economy.” The Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach, one of the most popular events on Long Island, was canceled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Its return this year brings back a Memorial Day weekend tradition that celebrates the beginning of summer at Long Island’s beaches, and honors military families and those who serve our country. This year’s show features the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, the United States Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog), United States Army Golden Knights U.S. Army parachute team, and United States Coast Guard Search and Rescue team, as well as many other worldclass civilian performers. The Bethpage Air Show will take place Friday, May 28, (Practice show); Saturday, May 29, and Sunday, May 30, 2021 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. each day. Have Your Furry Friends Tested Annually The American Heartworm Society advises dog owners to have their furry companions tested for heartworm annually. Such tests can typically be conducted during routine preventive care visits to the veterinarian. The
AHS notes that such tests are necessary even for dogs that are taking year-round heartworm prevention medications. Tests can confirm that such programs are working or indicate if they are not effective. The American Veterinary
Medical Association notes that antigen tests are the most commonly performed tests. These tests detect the presence of adult female heartworms and they are typically highly accurate. If a test is positive, veterinarians may recommend
further testing, including radiographs, a blood profile and an echocardiogram. Such tests can determine a number of things about the infection, including its severity. The AVMA also notes that the additional testing can help determine the best
course of treatment. Cat owners should know that it’s more difficult to detect heartworm in cats than in dogs. The AHS indicates that cats are much less likely than dogs to have adult heartworms, making the disease harder to detect in
felines. Veterinarians may recommend cats receive both the antigen test and an antibody test, which detects exposure to heartworm larvae. The AVMA notes that more testing may increase the likelihood of detecting the disease in cats.

Passover Is A Celebration Of Freedom
Passover is a Jewish celebration that begins this year at sundown on March 27 and ends on April 4. Passover typically occurs around the same time as Christian Easter. In 2021, the holidays overlap and share April 4 as the culmination of prayer for Jews and Christians. According to the religious resource My Jewish Learning, Passover is a festival of freedom that marks the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and their freedom from slavery. The term “passover,” which is also known as “pesach,” coordinates to a key moment in religious history. According to texts, the Egyptian Pharaoh refused to liberate the children of Israel, despite requests from Moses and his brother, Aaron. The pharaoh was warned that his people and he would be punished if the pharaoh did not comply. Persistent and obstinate in his refusal, Pharaoh was subjected to 10 plagues, each of which was more devastating than the previous one.
