The Twilight Wish Foundation www.twilightwish.org
T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country and multiple wishes have being granted on Long Island recently! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Patricia, who recently had her wish granted. You could be next! Patricia Bachmore is a 75 year old resident of Amityville. She wished for new furniture and thanks to the Long Island chapter of this national nonprofit, her wish was granted! Patricia has fostered and socialized rescue kittens and cats for years. Understandably, that took a toll on her furniture. Although the furniture was old and falling apart, she could not afford to replace it on her own because of her limited income. In December of 2020, The Twilight Wish Foundation granted her with a new sofa and kitchen chairs, which she wished for. In addition to her work with rescue organizations, Patricia is part of the Amityville neighborhood watch program and also works with the Town
of Babylon’s 311 citizens complaint unit. She also assists other senior citizens in her mobile home park with grocery shopping and other errands. THANK YOU PATRICIA FOR ALL OF YOUR SELFLESS EFFORTS! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Please note, when going to grant a wish, this foundation takes all the necessary safety precautions. If you are interested in volunteering with their Long Island Chapter, you can fill out the Chapter Volunteer Application at www.twilightwish.org/volunteeropportunities/ and someone will get in contact with you regarding how you can do so. The Long Island chapter operates under the direction of James Ciervo.

This is a free event and all are welcome! Patrons will be able to drive through various displays celebrating spring along with appearances by princesses, Ghostbusters and the Spring Bunny! All children will receive a giveaway on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. All patrons must remain in their vehicles and wear masks for the safety of all. PET FOOD DRIVE - Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly shows off the more than 650 pounds of pet food and supplies donated by local residents to his district office in Huntington Station during the 2019 Baxter’s Pet Pantry of Long Island Cares Legislative Pet Food Drive. Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) is pleased to again join Long Island Cares and help it “rain food for cats and dogs” by hosting a pet food drive now through the end of May. Legislator Donnelly’s district office will serve as a drop-off location for the 10th Legislative Pet Food Drive where much-needed pet food and supplies will be collected to benefit Baxter’s Pet Pantry of Long Island Cares (www.licares.org). In previous years, constituents of the 17th Legislative District have generously donated to this annual drive. All donations go directly to Baxter’s Pantry. While 5 and 10 pound bags of dog and cat food, canned food, kitty litter and new pet toys are most needed, all pet nourishments are welcome including food for hamsters, fish, birds and ferrets. Items may be dropped
off at Legislator Donnelly’s District Office, located at 130 West Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm, until May 25. As per health code requirements, all pet food must be unopened and in original packaging. For more information, call (631) 854-4433. “Now, more than ever, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to remember that hard times impact all members of the family,” said Legislator Donnelly. “Families
shouldn’t have to decide between feeding themselves and feeding their beloved pets. I am happy to partner with Long Island cares again on this important and much needed cause.”

Accomplished St. Anthony’s Student Will Head to Furman University During a time when there is so much negative news, we want to spotlight a local Long Island student who has a long list of accomplishments and heads for greater things! Paul Joseph is currently a senior at St. Anthony’s High School, where he holds a 4.0 GPA. His journey began at the early age of six years old. Paul Joseph started playing PAL football and his father, a NYPD police officer at the time, was his coach. The bond between father and son was very strong. As the high school years approached, Paul Joseph was afforded the opportunity to attend St. Anthony’s High School, since the family is Catholic and it is a college preparatory school that is known for its athletics. Paul Joseph adapted very well to the Catholic school environment; he excelled at academics and athletics as well. He was not only on the football team, but on the wrestling team and spring track team as well. Wanting to become more marketable in his football career, he decided with the advice of his father, to take up long snapping. He is now a Nationally Ranked Long Snapper and stands tall at 6’6” and weighs 260 pounds! His Mom and his younger brother (Antonio) are his biggest supporters and number #1 fans.
