Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station), re-elected by the residents of the 17th Legislative District in November 2021, was sworn into his third term in the County Legislature at the 2022 Legislative Organizational Meeting, held January 3 at the William J. Lindsay County Complex in Hauppauge. Legislator Donnelly, a graduate of Deer Park High School, is a proud life-long resident in Deer Park. He represents residents from the Towns of Huntington and Babylon, including parts of Cold Spring Hills, Deer Park, Dix Hills, Huntington, Huntington Station, Melville, North Babylon, South Huntington, West Babylon and West Hills. An almostfour-decade Deer Park Fire Department volunteer, Legislator Donnelly served as a Town of Babylon Councilman from 2011 through 2017 and retired as a 27-year member of the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY) immediately after election

Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) recently honored the retiring Ellen Komosinski for her remarkable 36-year career with the Suffolk County Department of Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), joined by his fellow colleagues in the Legislature. Beginning her career in 1999 as a Suffolk County EMS instructor, Ms. Komosinski has held a multitude of critically important positions including: American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Regional Faculty NYC/LI region, AHA ECC Regional Chairperson for NYC/LI region, Suffolk REMSCO Public Access Defibrillation Coordinator, Suffolk County PAD Coordinator, Suffolk County

Emergency Services CISM Coordinator and NYS CIC 2012. In 2018, she was promoted to Grade 23, EMS Officer. Ms. Komosinski has served as a Coordinator for the Suffolk County Emergency Services Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM) for more than two decades. CISM operates a 24-hour hotline for debriefings and related services and has been ready and available for emergency responders and dispatchers who needed to talk to someone throughout the very difficult, stressful time of COVID. Under her leadership, the CISM program has received many accolades and earned a well-deserved standing as a model program for EMS Providers and First Responders

In addition and perhaps most impactful, Ms. Komosinski has overseen the Suffolk County EMS Division “AHA Training Center” for the last 22 years. She has taught approximately 26,500 separate CPR classes for both County employees and residents and trained close to 150,000 people in CPR. “It is truly staggering how many lives Ellen Komosinski has impacted and will continue to impact,” said Legislator Donnelly. “On behalf of the entire Legislature and all Suffolk County residents, I thank Ms. Komosinski for her incredible, inspiring and impressive service. As a member of REMSCO, I know she will be missed, and I wish her all the best of luck in her future endeavors.”

Co-Workers Donate Toys And Send Cards To Neighbors Across Long Island

The holidays were a little brighter across Long Island, thanks to the generosity and thoughtfulness of PSEG Long Island employees. By participating in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program, an employee-led toy drive and a holiday greeting card campaign, dozens of coworkers helped spread cheer and hope this holiday season for neighbors in need. More than 120 co-workers fulfilled holiday wishes for 105 Suffolk County children enrolled in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. From bikes, tablets and video games, to toys, dolls and action figures, several hundred gifts were donated in all. A handful of PSEG Long Island employees also helped distribute the goodies and load clients’ vehicles the week before Christmas at the Salvation Army’s Riverhead headquarters. Here’s what some employees said about participating: “I am happy to carry on this tradition that my family started when I was a kid,” said Ashley Arndt of Dix Hills. “We always sponsored a family in need and it felt so good to support these sweet

boys and girls. I am thankful that PSEG Long Island is committed to supporting our community and helping our neighbors and friends. This company makes it easy to help so many diverse people across Long Island.” “Being raised by a single mom of three children, I remember how important it was for my mom to have access to a program like this that would allow for a few more gifts to be put under the tree on Christmas morning, said Brittney Schmidt of Smithtown. “I am happy that now I’m able to give to other families. Effective financial strategies vary depending on which stage of life a person is in. For example, a recent college graduate working his or her first professional job will not have the same financial strategy as someone on the cusp of retirement. But one financial strategy that people of all ages can look to for guidance is the 50-30-20 approach. Popularized by United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, the 50-30-20 approach to financial planning can be a valuable resource for anyone trying to develop a budget. The approach is simple yet effective. Under the 5030-20 approach, income is allocated based on this breakdown: · 50 percent of money is spent on needs, including housing costs, health insurance, car payments, and groceries · 30 percent of money is spent on wants, including hobbies, dining out and travel · 20 percent of money is allocated to savings Proponents of the 5030-20 approach note that calculations should be based on after-tax income, or what’s often referred to as “take-home pay.” Professionals with steady paychecks can easily determine their 50-3020 breakdowns by saving a month’s worth of pay stubs and establishing their monthly budget based on what’s coming in. The task can be trickier for self-employed or freelance workers, who may benefit from working with financial planners as they seek to create monthly budgets based on the 50-30-20 approach.

The celebrations don’t stop for Northport High School junior Natalie McKenna, who has been selected as the school’s first field hockey All-American player. Natalie, who plays goalie on the state championship winning team, was selected for Third Team All-American, and is one of only four students from New York to be chosen. “Natalie is the complete student-athlete. She places the needs of her teammates

as her number one priority,” said Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Mark Dantuono. Coach Gina Walling has been leading the team to an incredible track record, having won the Long Island championship the prior year and state championship during the most recent season. “I could not be prouder of the athlete Natalie has become. Her dedication and

work ethic have brought her to amazing places and will only continue to do so. The sky is the limit for her!” said Walling. Both Natalie and her twin sister, Olivia McKenna, have committed to University of Connecticut to play field hockey. The twins will play on the Northport High School field hockey team again next year, with hopes of repeating the successful season.

Allstate Foundation Supports United Way Of Long Island

The Allstate Foundation recently gifted United Way of Long Island with a $10,000 Helping Hands Grant. The contribution came as a result of a team of Allstate employees initiating a volunteer project with United Way of Long Island’s Stuff-A-Bus program. The employees who were from multiple Allstate locations, including Lynbrook, Levittown, Farmingdale, Syosset and Melville, combined their volunteer efforts by collecting a wide range of school supplies through an online giving wish list supporting Stuff-A-Bus. Distributed to Long Island school districts, these items are critical to helping young students succeed, especially for children who come from least advantaged families. Long Island’s largest year-round professional theatrical venue, The Argyle Theatre (Mark and Dylan Perlman, Executive Producers & Managing Partners; Evan Pappas, Artistic Director), presents the World Premiere of PUNK ROCK GIRL with book and arrangements by Tony-nominated Long Island Composer Joe Iconis (Broadway’s Be More Chill), arrangements and orchestrations by Rob Rokicki (Broadway’s The Lightning Thief), directed and choreographed by Jennifer Werner Worldwide Associate for Book Of Mormon), and in partnership with Lively McCabe Entertainment. It will begin performances on January 20, in advance of its January 22 opening night and will run through February 27, 2022. The Argyle Theatre (34 West Main Street, Babylon, Long Island).

Elwood-John H. Glenn High School senior and accomplished artist Trinity Hausch recently had her painting “Strawberries on the Oven” exhibited in a juried show at the Art League of Long Island in Dix Hills.

“At first, the art show was overwhelming,” Hausch said. “It was the first time I participated in something like that and all of the art was amazing. For my AP Art portfolio, I have been trying to focus on realism and light, but it was eye-

opening to be exposed to so many different styles and mediums. There were artists working on huge canvases, some using fabric, and others using glass and clay. It was exciting to be surrounded by that much creativity.”
