Angels of Long Island is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that somewhat formed itself back in 2015. Debbie and Brittany, a mother and daughter duo turned a small Facebook group into a fast growing nonprofit organization that helps countless Long Islanders in need. Six years ago these two ladies knew of someone in need of clothing and simply wanted to see if they could be of help. They decided to start a Facebook group in hopes of spreading the word and receiving donations for this person in need. They posted a message and went on with their day, later checking in to find themselves overwhelmed with the response. Whoever doubts that there aren’t people with good hearts that are willing to help a neighbor in need is wrong, fortunately! Debbie and Brittany named the Facebook group Angels of Long Island and members would post about ways they could help others in crisis on Long Island. The group continued to gain in momentum and members, so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience. I did not expect to be running a thriving non-profit organization that has a storefront on Long Island and helps so many in need when I made that Facebook group years ago. What has come since that group was formed is truly a miracle.”
The mission of this non-profit is to assist and advocate for people in our Long Island community who are in need of assistance. Their goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live prosperous lives. They truly provide a wide range of services and goods to people in crisis, however anyone can come shop at their Patchogue store, which has recently expanded, located at 350-23 East Main Street. The store is proud to take many types of donations. They now accept bottle and can donations every MondaySaturday from 9AM-3PM, where you can simply pull up curbside, pop your trunk and a team member will take the donations for you. All bottles and cans must be marked New York state deposit and no broken glass bottles are able to be accepted. Please remember to separate glass items from plastic items before you donate them. Pickups at your residence are available for large quantities of recyclables. Additionally, they accept other donations, such as new or gently used clothing, housewares, home decor and furniture. All proceeds from this store go directly to help Long Island residents in need. Lastly, if you have some free time on your hands and are comfortable volunteering at the store, please contact Debbie at 631.205.3458. During this pandemic, Angels of Long Island is short staffed and looking for help. Their store is cleaned every morning and masks are required there. Please only consider volunteering if you are not showing any covid symptoms. Boy Scout Troop 343 Recognizes Scout Boy Scout Troop 343 (Hauppauge) held a Court of Honor on December 12 at a local park, where the scouts were recognized with rank advancements and merit badges that they had earned over the past several months. Troop 343 continues to meet weekly via zoom or at “in person troop meetings” (weather permitting) at the parking lot at St. Thomas More RC Church (the troop’s sponsor) in
addition to participating in local day-trips, hikes, and instructions (as overnight camping trips are currently not possible due to the Covid shutdowns) It was the first opportunity since the COVID 19 shutdowns of inperson gatherings in March that the scouts were able to be recognized with their advancements in rank. They had earned advancements from the Scout rank to Life Scout rank (final rank
before the Eagle Scout rank) and were able to be given their merit badges (which they had earned via zoom meeting with Merit Badge Counselors or at at-a-distance in-person meetings with merit badge counselors). There were 18 rank advancements in Troop 343 and 44 merit badges presented. A special presentation was made to Dr. Stanly Lamberg, the Advancement Chairman for Troop 343,

for his more than 40 years of service to the scouts. He recently stepped down from this position and was recognized with a plaque that read “Troop 343 thanks and recognizes Dr. Stanley Lamberg for his service as Advancement Chair – 1981 – 2020.” He was unable to attend and the plaque was presented on his behalf to his wife Charlotte Lamberg (a longtime supporter of the scouts) and past troop member/son Eric Lamberg.
