Meeting with Community Ambulance member Gene DeMott, and Robert Huse of the Bay Shore Fire Department, Councilman Cochrane gave his appreciation for all the emergency service men and women who continue to keep our residents safe year round. The Councilman, a retired USN Captain, also shared support for the community at the East Islip Fair, meeting with American Legion 4S Post Commander, veteran Frank Frumento. “Our community is very fortunate to have so many extraordinary individuals whose daily services continue to better our community and the livelihoods of those within.” said Councilman Cochrane. “The Town of Islip thanks them all.” he added.

To recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Northwell Health Cancer Institute and Katz Institute for Women’s Health will hold a free education event about prevention, screening and treatment from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 24 at the Imbert Cancer Center, 440 East Main Street, Bay Shore. About one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. Breast cancer is a disease all women should monitor their risk for.
During the educational event, Northwell’s breast experts will discuss: - Risk factors for breast cancer; - Latest diagnostic and treatment options; - Screening options and guidelines; - Recent studies about breast cancer prevention. Northwell’s breast specialists are at the forefront of breast surgery, treatment and prevention. Northwell Health, in collaboration with Babylon and Islip towns, kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month and their inaugural “Pink by the Bay” program by lighting the town hall cupolas pink. “Pink by the Bay” encourages communitybased organizations and businesses on Main Street from East Islip to Babylon to light and decorate their storefronts pink, as well as offer patrons educational literature about breast cancer prevention and detection. The program is a month-long effort that will promote breast cancer awareness while benefitting community breast cancer coalitions organized by Northwell Health’s Imbert Cancer Center and Southside Hospital – both in Bay Shore – and Northwell Imaging at Great South Bay in Islip. Participating businesses and community-based organizations received a starter kit, which included breast cancer literature,

The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity. They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares. This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event. You can become involved with the Cemetery of Lost Souls in many ways. They are actively looking for volunteers in the following areas: Digital Marketing (to help with social media marketing), Scare Team Members (actors to help put on the event), Security (watching over the event and making sure all guests are safe), and Bake Team Members (to donate baked
goods to sell at some of the events). Volunteers must be 16 years of age and volunteer time can count towards community service hours!
