The Over 50 Fair, now in its sixth year, finds new ways to connect with Baby Boomers and Seniors each year. The annual event is the largest “over 50” expo on Long Island. This year’s event, on Sunday, September 27th, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Melville Marriott, introduces its newest addition, a Singles Lounge. “Every year, our single guests request a way to meet other singles. Seven in Heaven Singles Events will be facilitating this interaction in our new Singles Lounge, which will have music, a seating area, and icebreaker games several times during the day, such as Kings and Queens,” explained East Hills resident Barbara Kaplan, the Over 50 Fair director. As in the past, the Over 50 Fair will also have 90 exhibitors and 30

Chef Jonathan of Fox TV’s hit show MasterChef Season 6, its most recent season, will be preparing California Style Calamari Salad and doing a “meet and greet.” Not to be outdone, Chef AJ of Fox TV’s MasterChef Junior Season 3, the most recent season, will be cooking Quesadillas for all to try. Chef AJ, age 11, was a huge hit at April’s All Kids Fair where she prepared waffles with fresh whipped cream and fruit. The newly crowned Ms. New York Senior America 2015, CJ Marie, will be in attendance, along with her counterparts from 2013 and 2014. Edith Jason, one of the oldest yoga teachers on Long Island, will be teaching a yoga class. Mrs. Jason, age 80, has been teaching yoga since 1986 and currently teaches several times a week at Winthrop Hospital. Mark Brier of Laughs at the Library and Howard Newman of Jokesercise, where one can get a little exercise along with enjoying a comedy show, will be on hand to entertain at separate performances. In addition, there will be a group psychic reading, reiki class, iPad tips, saving for retirement, travel, and health topics such as sleep apnea, menopause, and podiatry. This event has been building a loyal following among the Boomer Generation during the five years of its existence due to its consistent presentation of a variety of classes and products they find appealing. The free opportunities this year include valet parking, waxing, and health screenings such as video otoscope and blood pressure screenings. Alone in a Bowl: My Saga By: Jamie Lynn Ryan It’s been days, and still no sign of my human. No light on in the kitchen. No food pellet delivery at dinnertime. No – dare I say it – bath time. Nothing. Where did she go? Alone in my bowl, I swim my solitary laps, counting down the hours, days, weeks‌ it must be weeks by now. Just me and my plant (which, by the way, is starting to look pretty tasty at this point). I should’ve known something was up when I found a few extra flakes in my bowl right after the last human sighting. And the suitcase‌ what was that for? Come to think of it, I heard something about “vacation,â€? whatever that
is, and then this giant bettashaped vitamin was placed in my bowl with promises of food coming shortly. When? It’s already been at least a month. Time tends to fast forward when you live in a bowl. But, wait‌ here it is – a flake. And another. Where did they come from? No human in sight, but this little vitamin seems to be melting into food! Oh thank goodness! She didn’t forget about me after all. I wonder if she’ll ever be back? {826 Days Later‌} I hear a noise! The front door‌ the light‌ MY HUMAN HAS RETURNED! Oh boy, oh boy! If I had longer fins, I’d give her the biggest hug ever! Oh, and here comes the good food,
my gourmet pellets, with a few extra thrown in – how sweet. She didn’t abandon me after all. But where did she go? I see the suitcase‌ but no presents? No souvenirs for Buddy? And what’s this about “bath timeâ€? now? She’s been home five minutes and already this nonsense about cleaning out the remnants of the vitamin from my bowl. Good grief. There had better be a good explanation for all this. I expect a special trip to the pet store this weekend to pick out a new toy‌ and extra food‌ and at least a week’s notice the next time one of these “vacationâ€? things takes place. Better yet, I expect to be invited along.

Manor and the original grants signed by Dutch and British officials in the 17th and 18th centuries. “Long Island’s colonial history remains relatively unknown, but hopefully documentary films like this can inspire residents to explore the wealth of history and culture to be found in our Town,” said Town Clerk Olga Murray. According to the Suffolk
County Archeological Association, Islip Town had one of the most unique settlement patterns of any Township on Long Island, and was composed of five patents/manors granted by the Dutch New Netherland government and later the British Royal Governors. In 1720 these five manors coalesced into the general geographic area we call “Islip” today.

St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School and the Diocese of Rockville Centre is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Matthew Artigas, a Queens resident, as the new Assistant Principal for Curriculum, Instruction and Student Activities at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in
West Islip. Principal Nan Doherty said, “We are thrilled to welcome Matt Artigas to St. John’s and we are confident that he will be a central and enthusiastic element in the daily life of our school and in our planning and continued growth and development.” Prior to his arrival at
St. John’s, Mr. Artigas was appointed Chairperson of the Social Studies Department at Holy Cross High School in Flushing, NY. He also served as a coach and a Social Studies teacher. He is an alum of Holy Cross High School and Iona College, where he earned his Bachelor’s in Adolescent Education, and a Master’s in History. St. John’s University awarded him an Advanced Certificate in School Building and School District Leadership and he is currently enrolled there for his Doctorate. From the Latin Anisoptera, meaning its hind wings Are shorter and broader than the forewings, all mostly colorless. . A delight to observe in flight... hovering like a helicopter, Able to change direction in an instance. Zooming at times at 35 miles per hour, Darting up and down and even backward.

Center at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital. The Fund for Uninsured was established to provide access to state-of-the-art breast screenings and diagnostic procedures for patients without health insurance. Jean Larsen of Stony Brook, a breast
cancer survivor who faced a huge personal debt from battling the disease, came up with the idea of the Pink Rock Classic to help others in a similar situation. She and her friend and former co-worker Walter Hurney put together the Pink Rock Classic golf tournament.
The event has raised more than $450,000 for people in need. The 18-hole outing begins at 11 a.m. with registration and lunch. The shot-gun start begins at 1 pm. The day includes a cocktail hour followed by a grand buffet dinner
