To raise critical funds for blood cancer research, the New York City and Long Island chapters of the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) – the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research and serving those touched by this disease – will partner to host the Greater New York Lymphomathon on Saturday, June 8 at the Old Westbury Gardens in Long Island. Sunshine & Socializing By: Jamie Lynn Ryan As I sit here on deadline, writing my column at the eleventh hour – as usual – is it wrong that the only thought I have is how I would rather be lying on the beach, soaking up the sun, on this fine spring day? Nothing against work – it just tends to conflict with the nice weather, you know? Sure, summer isn’t even officially underway yet, but the signs are everywhere. Concert schedules are out, vacations are being planned, baseball is in full swing – before you know it, it will be time to break out the
BBQ and open the pool for the first summer soiree. School? Work? Eh, plenty of time for that in the winter. Now it’s just a matter of coordinating all those fun summer plans, which is often easier said than done. Is it just me, or has it become increasingly difficult to set anything in stone? No matter the amount of advance notice, things always seem to fall through at the last second. Me, when I make plans, I stick with them. Barring an unexpected emergency, there is really no legitimate reason to cancel on someone. Call it a pet peeve, but there’s nothing worse

than looking forward to something only to have it cancelled. Kind of makes you not want to even bother. It’s almost better to play it by ear, see how it goes… and if things fall into place – great. If not, at least you didn’t waste your time getting your hopes up, right? I think that will be my mantra for this summer. Nice and relaxing. No stress, no aggravation, just enjoyment. And if, when all is said and done, that means lying on the beach by myself…so be it. I can think of worse things. See ya on the sand!

For the second year in a row, 3rd through 5th grade students at South Country School had the opportunity to experience skateboarding as part of their Physical Education curriculum. The entire Skate Pass Program was purchased for the school by South
Country’s PFA and included a curriculum guide, thirty student boards, two long boards, and all the necessary safety equipment. Throughout the unit, students learned the basics of skateboarding, including its history, proper safety and stance, and even some
exciting tricks such as rail grabs. The introduction of this unit has given students a chance to try something new and exciting in an ongoing effort to promote lifelong wellness and physical activity.

She said, “I’m going to meditate, do yoga, and then get a facial.” For a fee of $50, participants elected to do one individual treatment and two group therapies. Jones Beach State Park, Wantagh, NY, on Saturday, May 25th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, May 26th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Air Show is free to the public, but the standard $10 vehicle use fee will be collected each day upon entry to the State Park. For 2013 NYS Empire Passport holders, there is no vehicle use fee charge. For those looking to take public transportation to the air show, NICE Bus has increased its summer service and will run the n88 out of the Freeport LIRR station to Jones Beach every half hour from 8:35 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Also, the newly reinstated N87 out of the Hicksville LIRR station, will run hourly to Jones Beach on Saturday and
Sunday, from 9:20 a.m. until 7:20 p.m. Both routes will make stops at Jones Beach’s two Bathhouses and the Central Mall. The cash one way fare is $2.25, Metro Card $2.50.
