Second Grade students from Fifth Avenue Elementary School in Bay Shore recently got an advance peek at some of the festivities planned for Seatuck Environmental Association’s 6th Annual Eco Carnival, a special celebration held in observation of Earth Day, when they visited the site at the historic Scully Estate in Islip, during a special Eco Carnival Preview Day Press Conference, held on April 24th. The event was led by Seatuck Executive Director Enrico Nardone and attended by Suffolk County Parks Commissioner Greg Dawson, Islip Town Board Members John Cochrane, Jr., and Anthony Senft, Jr., and Islip Town Clerk Olga Murray. Also in attendance was Izzy Malin of East Islip High School’s Green Team. The Preview Day featured student volunteers from the Green Team helping to prepare the grounds for the Eco Carnival, held on Saturday, April 25th, by setting up a variety of interactive nature stations, which were then tested by the Fifth Avenue Elementary School Students to iron out any kinks before the big day. “The Eco Carnival is one of Long Island’s best Earth Day events because it gets kids outside to participate in an authentic nature experience,” said Nardone. Islip Town Councilman Senft agreed with Nardone, emphasizing the importance of having a facility such as Seatuck available to Islip residents. “It’s a place in our backyard where we can bring our children to teach them how to take care of the earth and our natural resources,” Senft said. “We have one of the most beautiful parts of Long Island right here in the Town of Islip,” noted Councilman Cochrane. The annual Eco Carnival is attended by thousands of people who come to enjoy the variety of naturethemed exhibits, stations, vendors, as well as live musical entertainment, face painting, and much more. Water is wonderful when it is raining and when the rain stops. Then a rainbow appears; It is as beautiful as a blooming flower.
The golden sun shining on my face, the breeze gently blowing across my face like a tornado. I take a sip of sweet ice tea. Dogs barking, birds chirping all day.
Lakes spread across the land, filled with millions of fish. Water gives us pleasure to see and know that there is more life on Earth.
Children running faster than cheetahs. Bikes on roads, children playing basketball on the street. Kid yelling, “Whoooooh, no more cold!” No more jackets, no more boots, now it’s time for shorts. Children screaming their heads off like mad men enjoying… a sunny spring day.

Healing Heart 5K The American Heart Association’s 6th Annual Healing Heart 5K Run/ Walk will be held on Sunday, May 17th, on the property of the beautiful Pugliese Vineyards in the heart of the Long Island wine country in Cutchogue. More than 700 runners are expected.
Day of event registration begins at 8:00 a.m., with the fun run for children 10 and under beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the 3.1 mile off road race beginning at 10:15 a.m. Following the race, the awards ceremony will take place at 11:15 a.m. with awards being given to
the top male and female runners along with the top runners in various age categories. A health expo will also be available during the event open to all participants. The Healing Heart 5K hopes to raise awareness that heart disease is the number one killer of men

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, which will be headlining this year’s show, will be the final act and make their appearance in the sky above Jones Beach at approximately 4:00 p.m. This will be the legendary demonstration squadron’s fourth appearance at the show, having last headlined the show in 2009. Their performance will include approximately 40 maneuvers, featuring formation flying and solo routines. The show will also feature veteran Bethpage Air Show performers including the United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, , Sean D. Tucker – Team Oracle, Lt. Col. John Klatt – Air National Guard, the John Klatt Airshows – Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco
Aerobatic Team, GEICO Skytypers, Miss GEICO Speedboat, American Airpower Warbirds, and David Windmiller. New to the show this year is the Breitling Jet Team, the world’s largest professional civilian flight team performing on jets. With its fast and powerful aircraft piloted by “flying aces,” this unique aerobatics team performs a meticulously coordinated ballet, sometimes flying within 3 meters of each other at speeds of over 435 miles per hour. The Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach is free of charge, but a standard $10 vehicle use fee will be collected. Bethpage Air Show announcers and Air Boss Wayne Boggs will lead air show activities from the Jones Beach State Park Central Mall Boardwalk area where food, beverages and ground activities will be available for fans. A 45th Reunion BBQ for the Lindy Class of 1970 is planned for Saturday, August 1st, at Lindenhurst Fireman’s Pavilion, from 12 to 4 p.m. Cost is $30 for age 21 and over, $25 for under age 21; kids under 5 are free. This summer, high school and college students can win a scholarship by hosting an American Red Cross blood drive through the Leaders Save Lives program. Registration is now open to host a participating blood drive between June 1st and August 31st, 2015. The Leaders Save Lives program encourages community-minded 16- to 24 year-olds to host blood drives to help maintain the blood supply over the summer months.
