Mobile Outreach Returns Suffolk County United Veterans received another visit to the John J. Lynch Vets Place shelter from the Long Island Cares Veterans Project Mobile Outreach Unit, loaded with 652 pounds of fresh produce and 181 pounds plus of personal care and paper product items. Musings By: Jamie Lynn Ryan There are moments that stand out in your mind as if they happened yesterday, so crystal clear do they remain years later. Walking around C.W. Post’s campus several weeks ago, I was reminded of the many afternoons spent sitting out on the lawn with my Philosophy class, reading Leaves Of Grass by Walt Whitman. The lush foliage, the warmth of the sun, the cool spring breeze, the words of Long Island’s very own Whitman… those are images that never fade. There were the countless afternoons spent walking the “Chipmunk Trail,”

through the Arboretum, savoring the peace and tranquility between classes, hoping to spy some sort of wildlife frolicking between the academic buildings – perhaps a black squirrel rooting through someone’s discarded lunch bag, a sight that was spied on numerous occasions. Then there were the many days relaxing in the Honors Lounge, reading, snacking, socializing and, most importantly, forging friendships that are still going strong, ten years later. Oh, and the classes, of course. Can’t forget those. All kidding aside, there were many classes over the course of my four years at Post

that left an indelible mark. I credit my photography class for introducing me to a whole new outlet for artistic expression, back in the days when digital cameras were still fairly new and handdeveloping our own black and white prints in the darkroom had yet to become obsolete. Years later, I treasure that portfolio of work. What better scenery to photograph than the vast expanse of the north shore, what better setting to begin to explore adulthood, and Whitman… and what better place to revisit, all these years later, to see if the memories remain as vibrant today. That they do.

Taste Of Tuckahoe Tickets are now on sale for the fourth annual Taste of Tuckahoe fundraiser, benefiting the Tuckahoe School. The event will be held on Friday, April 25th from 7 to 10 p.m. at 230 Elm, with restaurants, bakeries, breweries, and wineries from the East End coming together under one roof to highlight their culinary talents and signature drinks for the community to enjoy. Heart Of The Hamptons On Tuesday, April 8th, more than 350 of NYC’s elite came out to support the American Heart Association at their kickoff event for the 18th Annual Heart of the Hamptons Ball. The kick off, held at Tao Downtown Lounge and put together by Heart of the Hamptons committee members Paola Bacchini, Andrea Tese, Nur Khan, Peter Davis, Paul Goldstein, Rocco Ancarola and Cristina Civetta. Surrounded by amazing Geisha’s guests in attendance were able to listen to survivors Rocco Ancarola, Arnie Rosenshein and Cristina Civetta share their stories of survival. They urged the crowd to get checked and pay attention to their heart health. This year’s Heart of the Hamptons Ball will be taking place on Saturday, June 28th, at the Hayground School in Bridgehampton. This year, the Heart Ball will honor Dr. Leonard Girardi, Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Attending Cardiothoracic Surgeon, New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center with the Distinguished Service

Award and the Distinguished Leadership award will be presented to Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, President, Stony Brook University. This year’s Event Co-Chairs are Dr. Karl & Krista Krieger. Fire Island Visit On April 7th, students from the Woodhull School on Fire Island arrived at Bay Shore Middle School to experience a typical day

in the life of a Bay Shore student. Since the Woodhull School only accommodates grades 1 through 6, its

graduating students will have to decide which District to attend come September. The students were taken on a building

tour, had the opportunity to meet with teachers, were treated to lunch, shadowed students as they attended classes, asked questions

during an orientation, and were given informational folders about Bay Shore Schools. Many thanks to the
