On the weekend of October 13-15, 2023, Scouts BSA Troop 43 chartered by AMVETS Post 76 of Bay Shore along with other Troops and Packs from the area, participated in the Sagtikos District Webelos Woods Camporee at West Hills County Park. Despite the wet day of events on Saturday, the scouts enjoyed competing in games of skill and strength related to the Highland Games theme and the camp cooking competitions based on traditional Scottish recipes. Troop 43 (with the assistance of a lone Webelos

1 scout from Pack 112 in West Babylon) won the award for 1st place in the desert bake-off with a Scottish ShortBread Cookie made in a camp oven over coals. The scouts of Troop 43 would like to thank the volunteers of the Sagtikos District who organized and staffed this creative, fun weekend event. They are also grateful to their families and our charter organization for supporting the program. Scouts BSA programs allow youth to learn and grow at their pace exploring new skills and are based on the foundations of

David Auguste brings more than 29 years of experience in Parks and Recreation with a Master’s in Public Administration from Binghamton University, he has effectively managed decreasing budgets while taking on new amenities such as disc golf and rental cottages for the County. He has streamlined park functions, cross trained staff to perform various duties and regularly works with volunteer groups who help maintain the park. Christina W. Macina joined the IAC in 2019 bringing nearly 20 years of experience in not-for-profit companies and institutions. For the past five years, she has worked directly with the Executive Director of the IAC to strengthen internal controls and obtain grants for the many programs offered. In addition to being Founder and President of

Reynard Burns Publishing Inc., Reynard Burns has more than 40 years of experience in directing orchestras and teaching

at the public high school and college levels, he has engaged in many projects and programs reaching large audiences. His

compositions have been performed for several IAC programs and concerts including Concert in the Parks and the Emersion

Project “Flight” featuring the story of the Tuskegee Airmen and he has performed across the United States and abroad.

After her grandson Gabriel died of an overdose in 2010, Grandmother Paulette Phillippe remembers how her family had the additional struggle to pay for funeral expenses. That’s why in 2020, to mark Gabriel’s 10th anniversary in heaven, she formed Gabriel’s Giving Tree (GGT) to help families in need on Long Island pay for funeral and burial services after a loved one dies from an opioid poisoning or substance use disorder. In 2021, GGT joined forces with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD), together they have raised more than $100,000, assisting nearly 30 families to provide their loved ones one final gift. Says Phillippe, “I know from experience that many families may not have these funds, especially

United Way of Long Island’s 2023 “Stuff-A-Bus” program provided over 5,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for kindergarten through 5th grade students across Nassau and Suffolk counties. Corporate partners and community members dropped off donated school supplies at United Way’s Entenmann’s Family Center for Hope in Deer Park, NY. Volunteers came together to pack the supplies and load school buses so that no child would start the school year without the basics.
