The scholars in Mrs. Fields’ class at Brook Avenue School did not waste any time starting their “Mrs. Fields’ Class Cares” community service project. After Hurricane Harvey’s catastrophic flooding displaced hundreds of families in Texas and Louisiana, the scholars
knew just what to do - lend a helping hand. Before long, donations came in and Mrs. Fields was able to make a contribution to “Save the Children” on behalf of her class. “Save the Children” is an organization that worked fast to provide the shelters in Texas and Louisiana with equipment to keep

children safe while their parents managed their family’s emergency needs. The organization has also set up child-friendly spaces in shelters where the displaced children can learn, play, and deal with the difficult emotions that come up during disasters.
All Fifth Avenue School scholars in grades Pre-K through 2nd came together to celebrate the beginning of the school year. Eagle Scout Patrick Funk (a Bay Shore High School senior) shared a
message of kindness with the scholars and donated a Buddy Bench to the school. Mrs. Wilson and Ms. Frimmer demonstrated how the bench would help all children have a friend to play with. Before the
